I'm sure this topic has been raised many times but I couldn't find a relevant thread when I looked.
Is there any way to play the game without having to put the disc in the CD-ROM drive or does Punkpuster kick for everything? Loading the game is really slow as it is now. If you know how and I need some software to do it, please provide a link. Also, is there any way to skip the intro?
Thanks in advance...

For disabling videos go to the Videos dir.
Find the Logos.bik R6logo3a.bik and in Videos\Int the RS_Intro.bik renema them to e.g. Logos.bikold R6logo3a.bikold RS_Intro.bikold.
Then create 3 new empty (0 Size) txt documents and rename to what the video files were called origianally: Logos.bik R6logo3a.bik RS_Intro.bik, and remember RS_Intro.bik goes to the Videos\int and the two other to the Vidoes dir.
As far as circumventing the CD protection don't discuss it here. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif

Yes, I believe it is illegal to run it without a CD
Of course, that's up to you, but PB might screw you over

You can always suscribe to Fileplanet and get the downloadable version that doesn't require a CD. That's the only officially approved way to do it.
Sorry Gunny, couldn't resist. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Yea of course one could do that.. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif
..but don't these distrubutions require their own patch version? If you look in the fileplanet RvS patchlist:
http://www.fileplanet.com/filelist.aspx?st=1&s=92513&sf=3
there are patches for D2Ds and HitPoints distrubution of Raven Shield.
Would using 'normal' patches not require the CD still?
I can't see a D2D or Hitpoints 1.60 patch there, but can only assume you need it to play 1.60.
http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/353.gif However I now see the Polish Retail version of 1.6 some ppl have been asking earlier.

True enough Gunny. I guess that is just the trade off for following the "official" method for playing with out a CD. They will just have to wait to get the 1.60 patch that is compatible with the downloaded version.

Since the discussion went on anyway I thought I might ask the question I didn't dare to at first.
How can it be "illegal" to play without a CD-ROM in the drive when I do own and have a purchased copy in front of me? I have installed it from the discs and I don't intend to do anything else apart from playing my own copy. Maybe you mean that it "is not allowed" in some way.
As I respect the fact that the topic is to be kept out of this forum, I'm not asking for any more advice how do this. I'm just wondering where a suggested "law" stands on this issue.

It is an anti-piracy issue. Although you plan on using it in the correct mannor, it can also be used illeagally for pirating the material ie a "crack" Therefore it cannot be discussed here per Forum rules. (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums?a=tpc&s=400102&f=327106611&m=611103891)
I believe that I kept things to a minimum Gunny/mods. If I have said more than allowed please feel free to edit.
Thanks.

You could use deamontools and mount the disk to your drive. Dont know if im allowed to tell you that though due to copyright reasons -_-

It's not illegal (as far as i know, told it many times here, and did not get banned(at least not for that http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif) to do the following :
Create image from the playcd (i.e with alcohol 120 %, nero, clonecd, etc) then u mount the image with daemon tools. Now u can play without the cd. it will cost u around 700 mb hdd space.
edit : http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif didn't saw ur post embrace.
