View Full Version : Vegas PC Co-op Story Servers Needed!! Can You Host??

03-27-2008, 07:24 AM
Hey all,

Most co-op story servers running are passworded, and there are very few open servers available.

I ran a Co-op Story server last night on Realistic with 3 respawns, running harder maps, and it filled within a few minutes and stayed full all night.
Only a couple of players left in over 4 hours of gaming and those slots filled immediately!

Even when players were killed early, they still stayed so they could enter the next round.
This shows me there is still a lot of interest in Vegas even though it is a buggy game.

I shut the server down after 1 AM and it was still full and players were clicking on ready. I had already told them that I was shutting it down after that game.

Soooo .. If you are able to run a server, please setup a Co-op Story. You will meet some very nice gamers and have a lot of fun at the same time.

I always enable Punk Buster and have not had one bad player yet and I run a server a few times a week. Every player has been very nice and not even any bad language!! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I usually password my servers nowadays because of previous encounters with players that constantly kill teammates on purpose at the start of every round, players that rush in without any sense of teamwork, die, then complain via team chat that they want us to grenade ourselves (when there's three of us left...).

I'll consider running a dedicated server when I'm not at the computer though, and maybe opening it up a few times when I'm at the computer playing with friends.

Thanks Fusion!

I know other players will appreciate it!!

I haven't had the problems you describe as yet.
What we really need is a way to kick or ban players that spoil it for everyone else!

If there is an option to kick or ban, I haven't found it??

Is there a way to run a dedicated server without the need for a DVD and a separate account? (And Key)
I have some extra gaming rigs here that I could setup as a dedicated server, but I am not a programmer so it would have to be easy!!

03-27-2008, 09:31 AM
Whereas I'll have to read up on the seperate dedicated server software, it's pretty much easy to get a dedicated server running when I'm not at home. Just need to start up a server as normal and hit the "dedicated server" checkbox. May not be as stable, but it still works. x]

03-27-2008, 09:54 AM
I have run a dedicated server from the options menu, but you have to log into your account before you do that.
I don't think Ubisoft would allow me to run a dedicated server on my account and then log in again on another computer to join.
I tried that once and couldn't log in at all for awhile until after I rebooted my system.

Ubisoft needs to provide us with a stand alone dedicated server program that doesn't require a key.
After all we are helping them by running servers for their game!

In fact, Ubisoft should be running dedicated servers for Story ... it's their game and that would be a good way to create interest!!

My BT Internet connection's a bit naff at the mo - 4.5mb out of a possible 8, with a p*ss poor 448kb upload, and it's capped http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_mad.gif

By the end of next week I should be on a FAST (upto a possible of 24mb) connection with 1.3/2.5mb upload, Which should do for runnning a coop server http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/34.gif

Keep an eye out for me around 10am - 2pm, 8pm - 12am GMT starting next week http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif

03-27-2008, 11:45 AM
Thanks funkmunky! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Co-op is only 4 player so you should easily be able to run a server on that speed unless you have a lot of traffic from something else!

I run a server on DSL with 3 Mbps down and 384 Kbps and haven't had any complaints.
I am in Florida, USA and even had a player from Australia last week that said it ran fine for him.
That is a little surprising for the distance!

This is the fastest connection I can get where I live or I would definately have something faster.

03-27-2008, 05:42 PM
No prob, my current ISP (BT) are sh*te... They keep trying to tell me my router's faulty, I can't be arsed explaining to them anymore that I know they have a rate cap on my connection (only comes into effect through the day time, night time I'm fine), or that I've never used the router they supplied... It is funny watching them try to log in to my router while I'm speaking to them on the phone http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif "oh your router's faulty..." No it's not, and neither are the three older ones that I used to use (and that work fine with other ISP's)

Traffic wise there isn't anything while I'm gaming http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/crackwhip.gif

03-28-2008, 08:44 AM
Checked BT and it appears you are in the UK??
Wish I could get that kind of speed here, but then if it isn't working, I guess my slower working speed is better for now.

Can you get another service where you live?

I hosted a CO-OP Story server again last night and although it took a few minutes before someone joined, it then filled quickly and was full all night until I shut it down at 12:30 this morning. If someone dropped, the spot was filled in a couple of minutes.
Again, some really fun players!!

Very few servers running so we really need more.

I ask again .. Why can't Ubisoft furnish a full time Story Server????
Any Mods/Admins have an answer??

03-28-2008, 09:28 PM
Yeh, should be hooked up to the fast one next week... (BT are the sh*te one)

http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/agreepost.gif Yeh I'm up for that, then I could run a dedicated server on my old system... I'd be surprised if we got what we asked for so easily though...

Hey X-Fusion.
Unless I missed something .. In Story, friendly fire is off and no option to turn it on.

In Hunt, you can set friendly fire on or off, and when on, you can set the number of team kills allowed before you are automatically kicked from the server. You can set it as low as one if you like.

In addition, when I am hosting Story, all I have to do is right click on a players name and I get a drop down box with the option to "kick"
I haven't had to do that yet, but it's nice to know it's there just in case.

03-29-2008, 04:55 PM
Ok... Just tried running a dedicated server through the options menu, crash to desktop... every time...

I realise there's probably a thread relating to this issue, but I can't seem to find it...

Can anybody point me in the right direction please? Or does anybody know how to fix it?

I could do with finding out before I switch ISP next week please... If I fix it tonight I'll leave it running tonight http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

03-29-2008, 05:55 PM
Hey funkmunky,

Mine starts without a problem so I haven't had to deal with this problem.
Like you, I did a search and turned up nothing and there are so few people here now that the ones with knowledge won't see our messages.
(And you know how much help we can expect from Ubisoft!!)

I am starting a game with friends and family in a few minutes and will likely play until early morning hours, but will see if I can find something for you by tomorrow!

Don't give up .. we need servers!!

03-29-2008, 08:40 PM
I'll be reinstalling vista in a day or two, hopefully won't have any problems then... I've never known R6V to just crash to desktop under vista, but it does on XPoo, hopefullly same will be true of dedicated server on vista??? Soon find out...

03-29-2008, 09:10 PM
Good to see there's going to be more Coop servers available with out "limiting passwords" HALCON4 server running Coop too.
<span class="ev_code_YELLOW">"Weapons free boys"</span>

keep that spirit of gaming guys ")

Setting up a dedicated server for a few hours while at church.
It is about 9:30 AM here .. EST ... Florida, USA
Check your ping before joining if you want good game play.

3 Lives
Mostly large maps

Have fun guys and girls!!

03-30-2008, 08:50 AM
There is an option to turn FF on or off in Story. I'll grab a screenshot later when I'm at my desktop.

03-30-2008, 11:31 AM
Yes, when I setup a dedicated server, I set Friendly fire on and auto kick after 3 team kills just to keep players honest and hopefully, better team players.

The problem I encountered is the game set a time limit for 10 minutes per round and I can find no option to change it.
Hunt and all other modes have options for setting time per round.

I tried altering the configuration file, but then the server would crash to desktop while loading. Default shows 600 which I would assume is 600 seconds = 10 minutes.

I don't have any problem when running a listen server and it never sets a time limit.

Anyone know how to correct this??

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

03-30-2008, 05:12 PM
Lol... Just been playing on your server lethal, had a ping of 140, which I thought wasn't too bad considering the distance...

Coop story, casino level. We went through most of the level before we saw our first bad guys outside the vault... died, started again, same thing... happened a few times before I got fed up of walking through ghost town...

Can't seem to get the dedicated server to run like it should.
Most of the time, everything seems to work as it should except I am getting the 10 minute game timer in Co-op Story and it shouldn't have one.
I don't get that when I run a Listen server.

What is really strange is, if I join my dedicated server using the same computer, I don't get the timer!!
(And yes, it allowed me to log in twice on the same account .. maybe because it was on the same system?)

Guess I will have to just stick with the Listen server for now, but can only run that when I have time to play.

If you get yours running funkmunky, please let me know who it works out! Thanks!!

03-30-2008, 08:16 PM
Will do... if I don't get the dedicated server up and running I'll be online most of the time from next week anyway... I'm off to play UT2004 for a bit, seeing as Ubi servers have melted again http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/53.gif

03-30-2008, 09:32 PM
Was just playing earlier....had another one of those annoying players on the server. He joined, few rounds in, started "accidentally" TK'ing everyone at the start of the round. Game goes on, he does it again. Shoots every single one of us and continues on his own.

Sorry guys, but the server will always be passworded whenever it's online. Players who are active on the forums will be able to get into the server with the simple password "lol". I don't enjoy gaming with idiots.

Oh, and thanks for joining the server the other day, funkmunky. Was a surprise and a breath of fresh air to see a decent player on there. x]

03-31-2008, 06:56 AM
When you host a server, you can just right click on that players name and it gives you a "kick" option.

03-31-2008, 07:04 AM
@ X-Fusion.uk... decent? LOL you were decent, I couldn't shoot for sh*t that day... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/53.gif

Was fun though, I'll remember the password

I seem to have days where I can't be killed, and rack up more than 30 kills in a match, then I'll have other days where I might get 30 kills all day, and die about 90000 times... what gives? And it's not difficulty settings, I play SPTH, wartown, realistic with high density just for a warmup...???

When three tangoes spawn in a room you've just cleared and shoot you in the back of the head with a spas12 it can get quite annoying... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_mad.gif

03-31-2008, 09:49 AM
@ Lethal -

I know this, I've had the game for the full one and a half years it's been out, it's just the fact that we do get players like that guy on the server at all that makes the game not very enjoyable.

I like to have the reassurance that people I've seen on the forums can join the game, and not just any random Logan that's just started the game. If they want to join, they can look on the forums. x]

@ funkmunky -

Yeah, I get days where I can't shoot to save my life. Weird thing is, it seems to be related to the cold. Whenever my hand's cold, my reactions go to ****. Whenever I turn the heating on here, I play fairly well.

Go figure, my hand is frickin' ******ed.

03-31-2008, 08:47 PM
Yer my problems similar, although it's not caused by cold. I have the same problem playing pool... If I'm stoned I'm a demon http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/784.gif gimme some chronic...

But if I'm not... well... I might get a shot off... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/bigtears.gif

I actually felt I had to TK someone the other day... Joined his server, and he says; "do as you're told and follow me..."
"OK boss" I replied and followed him... we climbed up the side of a building (library), and started climbing down the other ropes and he shoots me half a dozen times while I'm upside down on a rope... "What's your problem?" I asked.
"Just a warning" he replied then he starts giving someone else in the game a load of abuse for not following him, they told him to stop being such a d*ck and quit... I shot him a few times, flashed him, then dropped a frag and killed us both...

I was laughin like a lunatic at this point; I just knew that whoever the loser was that was hosting that match, he was doing his nut... just like... have you ever seen the Angry German kid (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kBVmfIUR1DA) playing unreal tournament? (watch this, it's p*ss funny)

There was no need for him to be a rude, arrogant w*nker with us (probably a 13 year old who's just been grounded by mummy), we just wanted to have a game, not get shouted at by some spoilt little brat because he's not getting it his own way. I was immensely sattisfied at blowing him to bits... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/784.gif

03-31-2008, 09:49 PM
I think I know the guy you're talking about...I HATE people like that. It's another reason why we tend to set up servers and play together once we've organized 'em. We let the people we want to game with in. People who don't order people around an screw up the fun we're having.

Basically, do your own thing. Teamwork's awesome, no need to nade yourself if you're the last guy alive, have a laugh, and shout "HE OWED ME SOME F'ING MONEY" over Vent when a teammate dies.

03-31-2008, 10:15 PM
Well, I won't be trying to run a Dedicated Co-OP Story server again until (An IF) Ubisoft releases something that works like it should.
After running the last dedicated server it messed up some files.

I ran a Listen Story server tonight and started with "The Strip". When we beat that, the map didn't change and everyone in the chopper headed back to the strip was invisible.
By chance I had decide to save my entire config folder in Kellergame, before I ran the dedicated server, so just restored the old one and everything is back to normal.

The Listen server runs fine and was full all night as it always is.

If Ubisoft ever checks this forum, we need a good stable dedicated server program that is easy to setup for the average player and runs CO-OP Story without problems.
If you would just fix the one that is in the game options so it doesn't use a 10 minute countdown timer, that would be just fine.
There is no option to change the time or to turn time off.
Story doesn't even have an option for a countdown timer so I don't understand why it is activated when running dedicated??

Please give us something that works and we can all help Ubisoft promote Vegas with full time servers that work!!

Is that asking too much???

04-01-2008, 04:29 AM
Well all the gumpf for my new ISP connection turned up today, apparently it won't work till friday, but they told my mate the same thing and he was connected as soon as he plugged it in... so gonna give it a go... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/typing.gif

If it works I'll be hosting Coop TH for as long as the GF doesn't make me do any work http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif

EDIT: dammit... looks like I'm waiting till Friday after all, got to wait for BT to disconnect me... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/bigtears.gif

04-02-2008, 09:25 AM

I'm in business... only geting about 10mb down, but I've got 1.4mb up... gonna go host for an hour now... 4 player coop TH, realistic difficulty, medium enemy density... whatever levels...

And most importantly... NO PASSWORD required...

04-02-2008, 04:27 PM
Maybe the more important question should be:

Can Ubisoft keep their server running long enough for anyone to host??

04-02-2008, 04:48 PM
apparently not eh... they kept it up for about an hour and a half this time... (snickers) http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/34.gif phnarr phnarr...

04-05-2008, 10:28 PM
I tried to host a non dedicated server for a friend an I tonight and he couldn't connect. He tried to run one and I could not connect to him. We can see the servers, but when we go to connect we get a connection failed message. Any suggestions?

04-07-2008, 08:01 AM
It sounds like you haven't forwarded the proper ports on your routers.

80, 3074

3074 - 3174

If you have more than one computer on your network, make sure you forward to the one you are hosting on.

04-09-2008, 08:28 AM
Ran a dedicated CO-OP Story server from the game menu last night on a different computer than I used last time.
I still got the 10 minute countdown timer, but when it reached 0, the counter stopped and the game continued as usual.

But now, the maps won't change when a level is completed. I tried a custom map setup, and then went back to the default settings and started with Mexican Streets .. but still no map change.
It just goes back to the game lobby and restarts the same map!

Anyone know how to get maps to change using the in game dedicated server??

04-10-2008, 11:42 AM
I will be gone for awhile and setting up a dedicated server from the game options menu.

Time 1:45 EST
CO-OP Story

Starting map "Secret Labs"
3 Lives
FF on
Kick after 3 team kills

Please let me know if the maps change after complete mission.
Although this is not an easy map to complete!

04-18-2008, 07:43 AM
got dedicated server to work!!! yay!!!! only works on vista for me????? fook knows http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
