I'm looking for support from people for Christian Downloadable Content for Rocksmith.

Like Switchfoot? They have some good songs but idk anyone else.

Wait, before I answer, if I say anything other than yes does that mean I'm doomed to eternal damnation?

This might affect my response http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Weird poll. From the three ways to vote for 'yes,' it's obvious that you want some christian DLC, but you will dilute the number of positive responses if people choose one version of 'yes' over the other.

Doesn't matter. My response is a firm NO.

SeattleSauve

Is Collective Soul considered Christian music? They have some fun songs to play, so I'd be ok with them...

The best part of this ridiculously biased "poll" is that the NO votes still beat out all the versions of "yes".

As a fan of the Large Hadron Collider and someone who understands the value of the Scientific Method in general, I have voted a firm NO also.

Depends on what kind.

See, I can't stand generic mainstream Christian music... but if you're talking August Burns Red, or War of Ages, then abso-frickin-lutely.

ksnide13
10-29-2011, 08:56 AM
Definitely yes! Bands like Thousand Foot Krutch, Red, Kutless, Switchfoot, and others! It also shouldn't be mixed in with mainstream music because then it doesn’t force people to buy it when it is mixed in with mainstream.

Personally, the same reason you vote no is the same reason I would vote no to mainstream music. The lyrics half the time are garbage. I'm not saying all mainstream is bad.

I want songs that are good. If the music happens to be Christian, great. I don't want songs just BECAUSE they are classified as Christian music.

Very flawed logic here. You are basically saying that anyone who votes 'no' is voting 'yes' for "mainstream" music. There is a lot more non-christian music that isn't "mainstream" than there is christian music in total. Personally one of the reasons I don't like most 'christian' bands is because they essentially rip off mainstream music with tired formulas and just put in 'inspirational' lyrics.

Do you have proof they do this? Even so a lot of bands are influenced by other bands in all music. You were right about me generalizing mainstream music. I was trying to say the same reason you don't want to hear christian lyrics is the same reason I don't want to hear some of other music lyrics.

I'm a big fan of diversity in DLC, but I just can't think of any specific christian rock that I'd really want to pay for, while I can think of a ton of other types of music I would pay for. So I'd rather they put their resources on licensing other music personally.

Agreed. There is so much great music out there.
I think it is a Bad Idea(tm) to direct Ubi's energies towards such a small, niche genre.

If they include christian rock, then I demand they include Viking black metal. All invisible sky wizards must be represented equally, especially THOR!

I second that motion, all of the invisible sky fairies should have a equal chance at being heard.

absolute yes. Rockband has some, why not Rocksmith! There is a lot of darn good Christian music out there with rocking guitars. But yeah, it has to be the good stuff. Not the fluff and filler.

Why not create the broadest appeal you can? As a business the more customers you attract the better off you are. If it were me I would offer all genres of music from country and bluegrass to the hardest of rock. Old Time gospel as well as R&B. Cover it all and pull in everyone, make a stinkin fortune in the process.

You do not seem to understand how fortunes are actually made or that music licenses cost money to use, presuming you can get them at all.
Licensing every sky fairy song ever made could cost bucketloads of cash.
50 people paying $10 -or even $20- each for your niche genre would bankrupt Ubi.
If you want the music so bad, send Ubi a check for $10k towards licensing the music you desire.

How is that hostile? It is common sense.
You suggested that UbiSoft should spend untold amounts of cash to fill numerous niche markets with no way to make a return on their investments.
I recommended that if you wanted "christian music" -or any other niche market- that badly then you should send them the money to pay for the licensing. Maybe you are OK with freely spending Ubi's money, but not your own?
There are several flaws in your plan and I pointed them out, in hopes that you would come to understand what it really takes for Rocksmith to succeed.

Ubi has to find (and economically license) just enough music to appeal to the broadest range of people that it effectively can within the confines of profit and loss.
That is entirely different from buying the broadest range of music in hopes of appealing to everyone.

I guess I am hostile to the idea of Ubi losing tons of cash and cancelling Rocksmith as a result of poor business decisions.
As an engineer, I may also be hostile towards sloppy thinking and generalizatons that oversimplfy real problems.
Many in our country are severely lacking in critical thinking skills.

I just made a suggestion, it would be up to them as to implement it or not. I figured that the music royalties would be paid per disc as music is when you buy it on a CD. I have no idea of the way royalties are paid on game content. I see all sorts of genres supported by Guitar Pro software so I didn't think it would be much different.

I think there are a lot of songs that fall outside the "Christian DLC" that need to be implemented into the game long before this ever sees the DLC store.

For arguments sake, let's say Ubisoft decided to release some rock and roll with Islamic themed lyrics. Would you be one of those Christians who would then boycott the game? If the answer is no then I'm all for you having your christian themed dlc.

I don't even like Christian rock at all. Same words repeated continuously. My suggestion was to just have as broad a content as possible.

While I agree with the broad content but the lyrics just repeat themselves...really? It's more than Christian music that does this. Plus the guy above should really prove his royalty argument. He makes it sound like we are lucky to have any music on the game.

Is that guitar pro a monthly subscription?

I agree there is a lot of music now a days that just repeats the same 10 or so words over and over. I have bought very little new music since the 1970s. A little from the 80s, Van Halen and Sammy Hagar and Bon Jovi mostly. The rest had no soul that I could relate to.

I see all sorts of genres supported by Guitar Pro software so I didn't think it would be much different.

Guitar Pro is just tab creating/reading software. All the tabs are created by individual users (and are their personal interpretations of how the music is tabbed) - there is no licensing or royalties involved.

Go to guitarpro.com and download the demo. I try to learn songs with the software. I'm over 50 and I've had an on again off again affair with the guitar, I'll get the chords down and be making progress then something will interrupt me for a couple of years and I'm back to square one. LOL It's been going on since I was 10 or so. LOL It's a fun distraction though.

I have guitar pro also, and it's a great product. One of the few products I actually bought instead of pirating.

Guitar pro has no interaction though. It's just tabbed out midi. You can see the tabs, listen to them play, and try and replicate that sound on your own.

Guitar pro is a good resource to have along with Rocksmith.

However, just because the artist is muslim does not immediately mean the music is Islamic music.

I am teaching our youth group to play guitar so it would be a great teaching tool if we had Christian music to select from. I don't feel to comfortable setting it up in the church and blaring secular music through the sound system and projection screen. But if its all we have to work with I will still use it. We got it for my son yesterday and I already see improvement. Maybe UBI can contract out a christian music option?

i just read this entire thread, and I know I am digging up old wounds, but I find the arguments against Christian music laughable. It's not my favorite genre, but it is one that has a large market share. There's actually some really good bands in it (U2 started as a Christian band). Jars of Clay, Creed, and Stryper all have some good guitar in certain songs, as do many other bands.

To say it is a niche market is a silly argument against it. "Ok Honey" isn't niche? The whole game is catering to a niche market.

I hate to be the one to break it to folks, but heavy metal is niche too (e.g. Megadeth). That doesn't mean it is bad, but it only appeals to a certain subset of music lovers. We got that dlc didn't we? Why not get music that appeals to another subset? It seems to me that widening the audience is a good thing.

I voted I don't care, if a song is good and fun to play then OK. If it is something you don't like, don't down load it, that keeps it out of your living room. And NO I am not a Christian, at least n to the way most Christian haters and Church goers would define it, I kind of **** both groups off.

ARSAMES is a metal band from Iran, so there is rock in the Muslim world. ChthoniC is a metal band from Taiwan; rock like religion is found all over the world, and with both some may like it and others don't. Live and let Live.

Toby Mac and Mercy Me. For all the haters, no one is forcing you to buy a DLC. It's not like they're going to add it as an update. For that matter, I'd like to learn some country and some jazz too. Many new guitarist aspire to be in a church band. This would be a great tool for that.

Plain and simple here! YUP I would be all over it if it were available. Some mercy me, Hillsong, news boys!. News boys "stay strong" is one of the best songs I've ever heard. And I am very picky about music. You will find no Justin beaver or beyoncy on my Ipod...... Do not care for main stream music at all. Give me pink floyd, dillon, U2, peter gabriel, any day! Bring on the Christian Rock..... Love it.

snider87
12-27-2011, 05:50 AM
Most bands that are "christian bands" are not even "christian". I put christian in quotations since everyone's definition is different.

But what I'm getting at, is that a band with will call themselves a christian band to get on a christian label and hit that demographic.

And I am not a christian btw, atheist. Quite against it but respect it's right to exist.

AdamCohn

I am Jewish, so I really don't have any interest in Christian music... but I am interested in this thread, because I was thinking about the same thing for Jewish music... but unfortunately, the market for that is even smaller than the market for Christian music!

I would say that the economics around DLC will not be favorable for what you are proposing. With limited resources, Ubisoft has an incentive to publish DLC with the broadest appeal possible.

Right now, they are trying to cover the major genres (Metal, blues, classic rock) and each DLC pack reflected that. At some point they will figure out what sells best and publish mostly that (probably get ready for more classic rock - I would be willing to bet that More than a Feeling and Freebird have outpaced T-Rex and the black keys by a large margin).

I don't know how much business experience you have, but if you are really interested in this then you should not wait for Ubisoft to do it, because it will likely not happen.

You could:
1. Develop an ideal list of songs (Good guitar, good solos, etc)
2. Contact the Christian Rock Bands and get them interested in the idea
3. Approach Ubisoft with a list of interested bands and a business plan
4. Raise money to hire a developer to put the songs into Rocksmith format
5. Put together the significant marketing resources in the Christian community

Ubisoft may or may not be interested in this... if it is zero (or very low) out of pocket cost with some profit potential they may go for it...

the biggest negative I would see is that they may not want their current song list dwarfed by a whole list of Christian Rock music, and the perception that would create. (As you can see a lot of Rocksmith players would be hostile to that)

Feel free to PM me if you want any help.

Good luck...

my .02 - I voted I don't care... if there was a DLC of "christian music" I wouldn't download/pay for it... and I don't think ubisoft wants to make DLCs available that a lot of people won't buy... why not ask for songs that improve skills, and keep encouraging more DLC(more DLC sales) then you can learn whatever you want... if they make DLCs that don't sell, they will make fewer DLCs...

I will try to put this as diplomatically
as possible.

Christain Rock is like.
Political Rock
or even in some ways Rap

There is a segment that likes it, and
a large group that either doesn't like
it or are offended by it.

That said, I would not mind it being added
as a side group to DLC..but not as a main
release.

If Ubisoft released 'Christain Rock pack 1'
as thier main release say for..early
Feb. the next day the forums would burn
to the ground, TV news shows would
feature interviews of the 'Christain'
victory by entering the game market
through Rocksmith...that would be equaled
by protests by every other religon.

A mess

Just as messy as featuring protest
songs vs the government or hardcore RAP.

the_morbidus
12-28-2011, 10:57 AM
I agree with fatherrock, it will be a mess.

but then again much of the game industry is to make profit.

i'm not to sure how much it would hurt for christianity is a made up religion, just like all the others out there.
their imaginary friend can't hurt you, only the worshipers for they actually exist.
