That looks sweeet. I'm so used to the controllers I don't think I may buy it, but I'm sure Kimi will convert to the Xbox when it comes out. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I think that would be a huge product, what gamer doesnt want to cross platforms and play great games- especially when they can get ovet the fact they can use the same controls. Awesome stuff!

I'll throw my opinion in as well. I think this is a great idea as I have always thought all new game systems should have had usb ports, that supported keyboards and mice for first person shooters. I do see where the other side is coming from though... the fools (err people) that like game pads better. Unfortunetely for them, they will be getting their asses handed to them by anyone using a k/m.

It will definetely make games like Halo 2 unfair though. You will be either forced to use a keyboard and mouse yourself, or will have to be satisfied with the low scores you will be obtaining.

The only thing that I think would top this is if they could make a way to merge consoles and PC's together so that regardless of which you are on, you could play against other people online without having to worry if they are playing on the PC or Xbox, or PS2, etc... Now that would be sweet!

Valkyrie, if you have some time hop onto IM, I have a couple questions for you regarding SC:PT.

Tru tru...But you can't deny it though, it does feel darn good to win. I am especially competitive when it comes to Halo. I do not enjoy losing at that game, and placing second counts as losing.

Just because you win, does not make you a stat *****...

Good point. It does make it much more difficult to sit on a sofa with the keyboard and mouse on your lap.

Its just easier to move and look around, thus increasing your accuracy. You would need to experience the difference for yourself though, and then you will understand why the K/M is far far superior. This really only applies to fps games though.

With a mouse and keyboard you have a much wider range of motion than with a joystick. With a mouse you can turn 180 degrees instantly and aim very precisely.

With joysticks you have to worry about sensitivity settings a lot more. Too much and you can't aim, too little and you can't move fast enough. The mouse offers both speed and accuracy. =)

11-02-2004, 08:21 PM
Ouch... j/k. But none the less I did make the adjustment and became a **** good sniper on both Halo (and a bunch of other X-Box games) and Socom 2 (The SR-25SD Rocks baby). but when presented with the oppertunity there will be players who will take this and unbalance the playing fields. I am probably going to shoot my sniper rifle the same with wither a mouse or controller (I do better with a controller because with a mouse sometimes I just seems to hesitate.).

1. It could lead to keyboard and mouse becoming a standard for consoling... doubtful, but possible. After that, why the **** not just buy a computer?

2. Not buying it ensures job security for that wonderful person/persons whom get to decide gamepad configuration. Don't threaten their livelyhood!!!

exactly #1, which is what i wouldn't want to happen. i mean, that's why console and pc are separate. i spent so much time perfecting my FPS skills w/a controller so it would kinda suck to get wasted when a so-so pc/mouse player comes along. but if that's the case, i GUESS i'll do the switch too... bleh. :P

I expect most people will be doing the switch, if they wish to stay competitive.

xxxPusherxxx
11-02-2004, 09:03 PM
The wish to stay competative is irrelevant. Consoles were meant to be played with a controller. I haven't seen this yet, but I would hate to walk into an arcade, and be presented with a mouse and keyboard. If you want to play Halo with a keyboard, buy the PC version. Blah blhalabhhla lbhal albhhalblb blbhal lbhal blah. Somewhere in there I lost my will to make a point. I'm not saying anything negative about the product. I think it's excellent... except that they accidently put console conn. on the end instead of PS/2 conn. blah beer blah blah. Green Day!

I picked one of these up a while ago, and I have to say that it's not bad, but it's not great either. It is emulating the controller after all.

My biggest complaint is if you move the mouse too fast the unit 'freaks' out. I use a trackball on the PC, and when I want to turn around, I spin the ball. Using the smartjoy frag on Halo, if I spun it to turn MC to the right, it would cause MC to start to look right, then go back to the left, then back to the right, over and over until the ball slowed. I need to try it with a regular mouse to see if it's the same way.

There are a some adjustments you can make to look faster, etc, but you are limited to turning as fast as a controller can with the sensitivity set to high. It's definately not as smooth as using KBAM on a PC FPS.

Oh, and it's my first post. Yay!

You should bring it up here to Alberta, Canada and do some winter rallying with me. Not even videogames can compare... hehe.

Re: Using the keyboard and mouse while sitting on the couch...

Did anyone see the setup the folks at Infinium Labs have proposed for their controller? http://www.infiniumlabs.com/ (These guys may or may not be making the Phantom "game console") I got to mess with it a bit at E3 and it's a pretty smoothe way to put a set of comp controls comfortably in your lap. Now if only it was all wireless.

Nice cars guys. p1ink - my car came with the gold BBS rims as well. I put a set of pink springs on and the pink suspension bits out back. Lots of pink on the car lol. I went with some 18" rims cuz I thought it filled the wheel well better than the stockers. I know what the original rims are worth though, so I am hanging on to them.

Hey, what'd you get, Kimi? I just bought one ooooon... <looks> October 24th. Picked up the Panasonic FZ20. I did initially have the dSLR Canon Rebel but without anti-shake technology I'm hopeless and the anti-shake lens for the Canon costs as much as the FZ20 camera.. Heh.

Besides which, the Minolta Maxxum 7D (http://www.dpreview.com/gallery/?gallery=konicaminolta7d_preview) coming out might be the way to go for dSLR's anyway.

I'm a shaky person too, which is why I had to stop using my Nikon Coolpix 2500. I bought a Canon Powershot SD110, mainly because it's really small and I can take it everywhere. So far it's taken beautiful pictures. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

The detail difference between a 'point and shoot' and a dSLR is shocking but they make for nice meantime cameras and you can't beat the portability.

My girlfriend has one of the entry level point and shoot Canons and I'm still impressed by how well it does in low light. Took a ton of pictures at night in San Francisco, great stuff. Hope you enjoy and we'll have to trade shots sometime.
