I saw this article a few days ago and thought I'd bring it up.

DS Lites experiencing a crack epidemic? (http://www.gamespot.com/news/show_blog_entry.php?topic_id=24813324&sid=6154165)

They have stated the following in the article...

According to several Internet-savvy DS Lite owners (http://digg.com/gaming_news/DS_Lite_Cracking_Up), the left hinge that connects the unit's two screens is prone to cracking.

Photographic evidence of the small crack, which is a few centimeters in length, has turned up on several Internet sites, with users explaining that their dual-screened darlings just aren't what they used to be. It should be noted that the crack is merely aesthetic and does not affect the unit or gameplay.

Of course it's the loudest voices that are heard on the Internet, and they usually belong to those with gripes, so the extent of the crack epidemic isn't clear. A quick poll of DS Lite-owning GameSpot employees yielded no such broken units, but reports of more cracks are popping up on message boards.

They also state later that...

GameSpot contacted Nintendo customer support, who explained that this malady doesn't seem to be what the company calls a "known issue" and appears to affect less than 1 percent of DS Lites. However, unless the broken hinge impairs the opening and closing of the clamshell portable or the overall stability of the top screen, it does not fall under warranty. A damaged unit could be fixed for $50, down from the normal rate of $75.

Like the article says, this may never happen to your DS Lite. Though it sounds as if, with the mass production of the DS Lite. It is a possibility.

I know I open my DS Lite up, the full 180 degrees and it has yet to be a problem...

I have a dead pixel, but no cracked hinge.

Mines fine. The screen has some scratches but nothing really bad. You just need to take real good care of your DS Lite. Maybe alot of people over estimated the durability of their DS Lite and didn't take care of it like they should have.

So far, mine has been fine as well. Hopefully it'll stay that way. Though I did pick up a 1 year extended warranty with it. So, if anything does go wrong. I can just get mine replaced at EB.

Pac, you may want to look at getting that swapped/fixed. No one wants dead pixels.

Dan,

I don't know how you managed to get 3 bad units in a row but, you did. You just have no luck with this thing buddy and I'm really sorry to hear that. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

I'd try a different store or something...yeeesh.

I know a bunch of people that own these (from these forums and my own friends) and not one person has had an issue "yet".

After reading this. I'm starting to wonder if they really did have a bad shipment or something. It is a great unit, though when you look at it. Some parts looks stronger then the original DS and other parts look cheaper.

Though, Nintendo did have to pump out a lot of units. They had some nasty shortages overseas

Yeah, sorry to hear about you DS Lite Loosing streak(?).
As many others in here, my DS is doing just fine (not to rub it in http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif )

Experienced somewhat of the same thing with all three of the Logitech MX1000's I've bought. All of them failed after 4 monhts or so.

Sometimes you just can't catch a break. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/touche.gif

Thanks guys. Yeah it sucks. but hey, at least it still plays the games http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif (for now http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/sadeyes.gif ). Complaining isn't gonna do much because I got the 1st 2 from EB so Nintendo has no record of me calling http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_mad.gif . I'll deal for now. I'll let you know what they say. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Just be sure to remove the curly hair below the crack from you Lite. Those things are hazardous.

No cracks on mine, maybe a few scratches though.
I have not had any problems or found anything wrong with my lite.
