Team Xbox recently put up some gameplay footage. (http://xboxmovies.teamxbox.com/xbox-360/4866/Call-of-Duty-4-The-Bog/) Man, this game looks sweet. Here's the trailer, too, in case no one's seen it yet: COD4 Teaser (http://xboxmovies.teamxbox.com/xbox-360/4596/Call-of-Duty-4-Modern-Warfare-Teaser-Trailer/). I just hope the MP allows for more than eight players.

Take a look at the " Lighting and Effects Interview" & " The Bog Rescue Gameplay". I streamed them to my 360 and watched in HD. The game looks absolutely incredible. The graphics look like they've exceeded Gears of War by a good amount in my opinion. Looks like this will be the best looking 360 game by far. Game Informer said it has the potential to be the best shooter ever made. So we'll see.

I am hoping this gets ubisoft worried that RB6 and ghost recon people might switch to this. That the next Ghost Recon game is actually new and innovative.

Didn't COD2 & 3 have the ability to have up to 24 people in one game?

I only played the campaign on COD2 and didn't play COD3 at all. But for some reason I was thinking that COD2's MP only allowed eight. I may be mistaken.

King, ya I'm hoping this will light a fire under Ubi. I have faith in them. I hope some of the innovations from AC find their way into the next RS and GR.

Edit: I just watched the Effects & Lighting interview...NICE!!

I think you're both right-- COD2 only allowed for 8 players online on the 360, but it featured much larger teams on PC.

As excited as I am about the gameplay in COD4, I'm not at all enthusiastic about the story. Why is it that every war game has the US military going up against some "super villian"? In the case of COD4, NATO is fighting some despotic General of a former Soviet republic. Reminds me too much of the ridiculous ending to the original GRAW: "I'll share my nefarious plan with you, then I'll shoot rockets from the top of this bell tower until you snipe me down." Aargh

I'd have to agree. Even as good as the game looks, I'll probably only play it multiplayer. I've gotten really tired of this style of FPS. It might be great, but that's yet to be decided.

Oh, you can also get a trailer for it on the XBL Marketplace. They put it up for download like a week ago.

I don't really care about the story in this COD4. As long as it is awesome and looks awesome, I'll be happy. And besides, COD3 multiplayer is fun as hell.

Hmm, they act like there hasn't been a Call of Duty type game set in this modern era.

It was called Shadow Ops: Red Mercury.

Personally, I find that Call of Duty single-player is just too much at a constant rate. It's not realistic, with peaks and lulls in the fighting. It's for ADD kids. Yeah, it's good stuff, but the pace is grrrrrrr.

Does look good. I'm especially intrigued by the SAS action.

The CoD4 multiplayer doesn't have vechiles I do know that. And I thought I read it was going to be 12v12. But that's probably going to be laggy unless it's play on their servers or something.

Wait, what? Where did you read that it doesn't have vehicles?

"There's also a experience bar in the multiplayer, and as you get better you can level up your character, get promotions, and so on. There are no vehicles in the multiplayer, it's all infantry based, and will include Deathmatch, Free For All, Capture the Flag, Search and Destroy, and other gametypes. They also incorporated some of the more popular mods for multiplayer, so there's no crosshair mode, no HUD, and no regenerating health, so basically "be careful out there." During the match we watched you could see leveling up actively happening during a match, witness players (with powerful enough weapons) shooting through walls, and in some cases ceilings to take out an enemy above them. You can also call in things like airstrikes or satellite recon from time to time, depending on your outfit. It's also party-based, meaning your friends can jump into a match at any time."

This game looks freaking sweet! Call of Duty 2 is so freakin fun online! The single player is also fantastic.

There are reasons why these games don't model themselves after current conflicts, and go for the much larger scale wars against the likes of Russia. For one thing, they don't want to get caught up in the politics of current conflicts like Iraq or Afghanistan. Secondly, and I think most importantly, is that they want to capture the experience of a full-scale modern war. What would it be like to throw the entire weight of the US military against a similarly matched Russian army, or European army?

There are still games out there that focus more on the low-intensity type of combat that we're seeing now. Full Spectrum Warrior comes to mind - would LOVE to see a 360 version of that.

Yeah, Full Spectrum Warrior was pretty realistic. It's just the 3rd person view that makes it a bit nontraditional.

TheGoodEd

Full Spectrum Warrior was great, despite the fact that it too had a "super villian" http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

The gameplay was absolutely brilliant, though as a heads up to those who've never experienced it: it's more a tactical strategy game than a shooter. You're merely issuing orders to your men-- you never truly step into their shoes to pull the trigger. I never played the game's sequel, though the inclusion of new unit types like Rangers and snipers seemed like a great addition.

Personally, I think a Call of Duty game in this vein could work. I'm thinking it would actually feel a lot like Black (except it would be a GOOD game).

I'm glad that they decided to make a modern style game instead of WWII. I've been kind of tired of WWII shooters for a long time now. I haven't played any of CoD3, and didn't completely enjoy CoD2, but this one looks better than either one. I may get this if I can play from a demo or a friend before buying it.

Hopefully after they do this game that they go to something like the Vietnam war. That would be awesome in my mind.

The game is designed for 8v8 not 12v12. I'm glad they removed the vehicles personally because that can destroy the balance of a game without a realistic way of immobilizing a vehicle. For instance tires should be able to be shot out to rollover a jeep or ATV. Small arms fire wouldn't do jack to a tank though so vehicles are generally a bad idea IMO.

Thanks goodness they went for the 8v8. Less chaotic

Yeah I have a feeling that 6v6 will still be the best balance for the game though like most console games though.
