TOKYO: Japan's immigration authorities said on Monday they had refused entry to two British men they fear could cause trouble during the World Cup.

It was Japan's first detention of foreign fans suspected of being hooligans.

A team of hooligan-spotters from the British police arrived on Monday.

The police will advise the Japanese police on tactics for dealing with fans and spotting potential troublemakers at the World Cup, which runs from May 31 to June 30.

Ron Hogg, assistant chief constable of England's Durham police, said that close cooperation between his team and Japanese police would effectively keep hooligans at bay.

Last week, Hogg warned the Japanese to expect violence at the World Cup but said he did not anticipate large-scale disorder. Eleven English hooligans have managed to get tickets for the World Cup. But Hogg said they were unlikely to get into Japan, where England plays its first-round matches.

The 11 all have criminal convictions and got their tickets through soccer's world ruling body FIFA. They were among 349 fans whose profiles were passed to the Japanese police by Britain's National Criminal Intelligence Service.

The Japanese authorities decided to refuse entry to 197 and to subject the other 152 to "intensive immigration checks" that could lead to them being refused entry.

South Korea, which is co-hosting the soccer tournament with Japan, refused entry to a known British hooligan last week.

English fans ran amok in Marseilles during the 1998 World Cup in France and two years ago at the European championship held in Belgium and the Netherlands.

About 6,000 to 8,000 England fans are expected to make the long and expensive journey east, a fraction of the number that travelled to France for the last World Cup in 1998.

Ok, this is an old article, but I stumbled upon it and thought it was pretty funny to read, then I noticed the title was close to halmex's lame *** topic, so I thought I HAD to post it just to cause confusion. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Give it a rest. You said you don't give a ****, but with this thread you obviously do. Don't piss in each others faces because of their political position.

There really should be a politics forum, where these "fears", flamings and arguments can be kept.

Lol, durdd believes in halmex's argument, no wonder he'll come in here making accusations about me. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif

Besides, you forgot what it's all about. I said nobody cares what Europeans think about our president, and this post is just a mockery of halmex's post, does that mean we all of a sudden care about what Europeans think??

Oh no, mocking = caring! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif

It's just for fun anyway, I seriously thought this was a funny article, the title was a coincidence, but because of that coincidence, I couldn't help myself but post it here.

I do apologize if this seemed directed solely torwards you-Halmex's thread is just as irritating as this one, but you should know that my political position is with neither you or Hal.

Halmex's decision to post his thread regarding Bush was dumb, but he probably already knows that. My point is that it's useless and stupid to post these Conservative vs. Liberal threads. All they do is begin flames and mocks. No one in this forum is EVER going to change their political point of view, whether it's you, Hal, MNG, Hornet, or Guidon, ect.

Then how come you feel so compelled to come here and lecture me about "political" threads when this thread is about the Japanese detaining who they think are "british hooligans" when there is a ball game about to be played? I found it hilarious that the Japanese find this SO important, that they would go through all this trouble. I just find this funny that "british hooligans" seem to be feared by nations far far away!

Yet, halmex's thread WAS a political thread, directly bashing Bush, as usual, and, hm, not a peep from you... Funny isn't it?

So don't lecture me, then claim you're not biased in your views, we already know the truth, let us have our british hooligan humor dammit! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Lazy, yet you still took the time out to lecture me, and why didn't you pick halmex to lecture instead of me? I guess you'll call coincidence... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Ok, It's cool. If you really want to, you can carry the burden yourself and I'll just stop assuming Hal reads this. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

(Yep. You got me. I'm a supermega-weed-inhaling, Grateful Dead lover, ultra Bush assassination-plotting uberhippie. I still listen to Grateful Dead vynl and I still am pretty angry about Vietnam. Covers blown. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/1072.gif )

I'm not carrying any burden. I can care less, you think you're the first person that have singled out threads going one way or the other? Come on, I can really care less, but when it's so obvious, but you still can't admit it, then you're only fooling yourself, lol.
