View Full Version : MS FFB2 + Thrustmaster Cougar

I've noticed that some people here are using a MS FFB2 together with the Saitek X45 throttle (or the CH Pro Throttle...), but I've never noticed anyone using a MS FFB2 and a Thrustmaster Cougar throttle.
Is this possible, or has it never been done? I realise that if you've spent $300-400 on a Cougar you might not feel like getting another stick just for the FFB, or vice versa, but still...
I'm currently using a MS FFB2 and I'm really happy with it, but I feel I'm close to being ready to expand my kit with a throttle. The X45 one is a bit too big for my hands, and I've never fiddled with the Pro Throttle so I have no clue as to how big it is, the Cougar though fits me as close to perfect as can be expected...
Can anyone shed some light on this? Is all USB-gear compatible? Any comments on the different throttles?

The Cougar HOTAS stick and throttle is only sold as a pair and even if you can get hold of a single throttle it must be connected to a Cougar stick where the "computer" is in order to function.

I know they only come in pairs, but the people who use the X45 and MS FFB2 just put the X45-stick to the side and use the throttle and the MS FFB2. I was wondering if this was possible with the Cougar too...

Dont think so since the connection to the stick is a special D-plug and not a USB or gameport plug.

I dont see why not..... FB supports the MS+X45 combo. Just plug the stick in. The X45 has a plug that goes from the throttle into the joystick..like a D plug..the usb goes from the stick to the computer. I think the Thrustmanster is the same way...but remember..you dont have to put the stick on the side..you can use the buttons on the stick too...

Why would anybody want to do that? No offence to your M$ stick, but the Cougar is 10 times the stick. You would lose the best part of the Cougar too. The programming.

Sure it works, I know because that's the setup I have. I bought a cougar, then thought I'd like to try the force feedback, decided I liked it and now use the FFB2 + cougar throttle, which still has a lot of functionality programmed in. When I get LOMAC I'll use the cougar joystick for that. All the connections work together fine and nothing needs to be plugged/unplugged when changing sticks.
BTW Buzz the FFB2 is, IMHO, a lot better and more precise stick for a prop sim than the cougar stick, which is heavy and kinda 'sticky' on the axes...they can also tend to have play about the center, even after some of the custom mods are applied.
Plus, forcefeedback is extremely valuable when feeling approaching stalls in tight turns etc.

With the Everstrain mod to the Cougar. It has zero play, and the best feel of any stick out there.
FF in a stick is a personal thing. I never cared for it myself.

Thanks guys!
I still need to know the size of the CH Products Pro Throttle compared to Saitek's X45 and the Thrustmaster Cougar before I make up my mind.
Anyone...? /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif
