Really like the screenshots!
Only have one minor comment - the sea is to transparent (if it's supposed to be "north atlantic").

All is fine, but turm the geometry is not correct. Pay attention at what height the antiaircraft machine gun is located. The turm should be corrected. Compare to the original on drawings and archival photos! Sorry for my bad english.

excelent photos..........it is even better than Silent hunter 4 1.4 enviromental mod 5.0
but dont forget to do one more thing..........the wawe splashes and wawe movement on front of the ships/submarines and on side could be little better

12-05-2009, 05:31 AM
Thanks for the preview. Everything looks very good to me. I hope to see some really nice new wave and particle effects sometime though.

Those pictures are also available through Facebook and I just replied it in the other thread then I read this.

Visual effects and water

A W E S O M E - B I G - T I M E !!!! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

That is what I call realistic explosion and smoke http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/clap.gif

Just one more thing though. Please let us know whether the harbour will show lots of people walking and working? or perhaps expose some more military units? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Stop, and where green Atantichesky water?

12-05-2009, 07:46 PM
Can't wait for this to come out , only thing really worth playing on the PC.

The only thing I'd like to see is things on ships blown apart, I seen in the video where a mast was hit and it bounced off the ship intact a bit like when you hit a lampost in GTA.

Thats what i call a explosion http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Sh*t! I need a bandage, my head started bleeding from hitting it against my desk because I still can't even run Silent Hunter IV!

And I can only barley run III.

12-08-2009, 03:52 AM
Do I see volumetric clouds?

Awesome, one of the greatest immersion killers in SH3+4 were the flat skies. Real clouds should so spades for any feeling of beeing there! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Sorry for my english.
I many times lifted this problem!

It is necessary to correct! The deck at the bridge should be made more low!

Oh my god, what a stunning display of high quality graphic’s.
When I saw the ship block the sun and the effects it had on the sky (drawing a shadow) where stunning. (I had to pick up my jaw from the ground) The cinematic day to night cycle part, gave me hope that I could do some proper night attacks without having tweak the gamma settings to make things become more visible.

The water effects on the camera are extremely well done and I’m guessing it will be the same effects when looking through the periscope.
Somehow I can’t help thinking how cool it would be if those water/rain drops would not fade/disappear so fast but actually stay and be effected by the wind/gravity.
The visual water effects and how far down through the water you could look, worried me slightly.
I know that in certain parts of the Atlantic sea, you have a very crystal clear view and can look quit deep in to the water. But in other parts, you can’t see anything because the water is too murky.
The picture of the submarine underwater in a harbor worried me the most.
I really hope that visibility through water isn’t fixed and changes depending on what area of the Atlantic you are in.

Keep up the good work and I hope to learn soon if there will be a collector’s edition available of Silent Hunter 5 and what goodies there will be in there.

the game is schedueld for march 2010 (like a release of previous series of the game)

considered that this last updates are made in begining of this mounth.....that means that they have arround 3 months left for the advanced polishing of the game and bug removal....and 3 months are very good amount of time to make the game perfect (depending on will the game developers notice and be avalible of bug removal and perfecting the game

yeah better graphics, blah blah.

but what about performance? silent hunter 4 was an absolute train wreck when it came to performance and playability with bugs and shoddily implemented features galore.

i don't care how beautiful this game is, if it's going to run and play like crap, that's the point?

oh and i just love how they announce this game so late into development just so us fans don't get to have a say. more useless and unwanted features, yay.

Unsinkable submarine (on surface after player death) in SH4 patch 1.5 kills almost all matches in multiplayer mode...

After that should I buy SH5 without slightest doubts?

I think is useless to complain , as far as I am aware we dont have too many submarine games developers to be able to choose , therefore we must start to learn how to modify the files of the available Silent Hunter games to get what we want , and we must say thanks to UBISOFT because is the only one developer able to give us a submarine game

hello forum,
haven't said much on this site[mostly reading].
but, i have just gotta say, " I can't wait to get my hands on this =+%#@ game!!" wow, double wow! thank you,i feel better now.

I have to agree somewhat with posters highlighting that all we are seeing at the moment is how the visuals are impoved, but no mention on gameplay mechanic improvements.

However, might this be a good spot for everyone to list all the known bugs discovered throughout the SH4 game from release to the latest patch rather than just generally saying SH4 was buggy?

This way we can have specific details on what was screwed up in SH4 at the start and the devs for SH5 can have this list of SH4 flaws in their face as they continue development so they can avoid the mistakes.

I've only recently started playing SH4 so I'm not totally familiar with all it's flaws but the one thing that struck me was how pitiful the manual was in terms of information as well as how many errors there were, such as being told you can edit map notes, when all you can do is slap down an X.

If simulation games are to become popular and maintain a viable franchise, they have to begin appealing to others who may not be too clued up on these kinds of games. This means the devs need to take the effort to either have detailed instructions on how to play the game and use the systems, be it either via (in depth) in-game tutorials or a decent manual (printed or PDF). This is not to say dumb it down, simply make the difficulty levels scaleable to beginners up to hardcore. SH4 did a fairly okay job with it's gameplay options for this but newcomers still had to contend with a shoddy manual and sorry Subschool tutorials.

If it wasn't for community tutorials that clarify what the appaling SH4 manual totally ignores, I would have found some way to return SH4 to the place I bought it or at the very least eBay the sucker and not bother with any sequels. Hopefully the developers will get things right with SH5 and ensure that the in-game tutorials and manual provide everything beginners AND hard-core players need to immdiately enjoy the game without having to wait weeks and months for the community to do this job for them.

It looks pretty awesome so far but, I sincerely hope it's not going to include constant water droplets hitting the camera lens. That will get really annoying really quick.

It would be nice that this feature can be turned on and off at any time. I love the water droplets (they also disappear quickly).

What I think, if we want another layer of realism .. the view on the periscope lense really takes into account. Imagine how hard it is to see the ship when the periscope lense has water droplets on it or distorted view because of the water. I'm not sure whether it is the case in the real world though.

Another thing that I would like to know just for a sake of realism in view. The rain droplets on the sea. At the moment in SH4 .. you can see the rain fall droplets on the screen as foreground only and the sea water is just like there is nothing drops on the surface. I hope SH5 will fix this. The rain that will create the water droplets effect on the surface of sea water.

http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif I agree , the rain droplets must have a effect on the water surface http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

The game does look great. But, What about realism? I would like to hear some news about the gameplay beyond what we already know. I hope it's much more complex than the previous games. At least having the option to make it so. Being as you have a FPS view there should be much more interaction with the environment. I want to be able to control things myself if I feel the need.

12-23-2009, 03:10 AM
Cant wait for this, but must do, got my order on Amazon, they say march 5th, not too far away, roll on, this thing looks stunning.
Ref the water droplets, see what you mean, constant could be too much, but still looks good, during bad weather only would work.

12-27-2009, 04:51 AM
Water droplets in the face could be annoying when you are standing on the bridge, but when using the binoculars, the droplets would in my opinion, add some realism http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Big improvement in graphics for sure in SH5 over SH4.

I noted that the crew is more interactive and the simulation includes all parts of the boat stern to bow apparently. It also seems to focus on German UBoats against Allied ships. (got that from an interview on line.)

Are there any bug fixes or performance improvements. Any improvements in realism, etc?

I've owned SH4 for some time now but have very little experience with it at this time. Working on manual targeting. SH5 looks like it's definitely worth it.

All i can say is keep it up guys, this is gonna be one heck of a simulator.

Now for the torpedo impacts in SH5, hopefully it will be something like the video below.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v...yYdc&feature=related (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vYAWrkvyYdc&feature=related)

But thats not achievable for now i guess.

I don't know why, but further screenshots have appeared over at Subsim, check out this thread.

http://www.subsim.com/radioroo...wthread.php?t=160233 (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=160233).

Maybe Ubisoft has a reason why the new screenshots weren't released here first??.
