Thanks a million captgeo I wasn't even aware of the existence of the museum let alone the magnificence of it. I will forever be in your debt. I live in Marshall , Tx. which is only I'm guessing about 3 to 4 hundred miles away. Now I have to get busy and plan a visit there. Thanks again pal.

What a great museum! But they sure are light on submarines. It's as if they didn't exist except for one book. But that was the face of the war at the time, only to be lifted in the 1950's with the declassification of the submarines' contribution. Then it was too late to capture the popular mythology.

The irony is that Nimitz was a submariner!

I suppose that when you get to certain 'political' levels.. to admit that a small 'little sinking' boat, actually played a major part in the war is .. well, maybe not Politically Correct for advancing one's career

I was hoping it was located here in California.

I just went to the Tank Musuem again. If you've never been and live in the SE, it's a must. In Danville Va. Strange it's out of the way and never seen but a handful of people there unless a special event.

The main thing is the uniform and medal collection, the largest I've ever seen. Tons of German Uniforms...just go through the site.

It's in a old high school..and they need every inch. The tanks are amazing, have both US and German and many work. Bunch of guys rebuild them. Quite a show when they bring them out running.

Here's the link to the uniforms. Didn't realize you can buy them, if you can afford them, geesh, you could buy a nice car. They even have old tanks, WW2 trucks, ect for sale on the floor. Actually most their stuff is for sell.

Many belonged to some famous Generals. Saw one dress uniform that belonged to Yamamoto.

If you have $20,000., you can buy this SS uniform.

It's probably OT, but maybe a "Military Museum Thread" should be created...
