Gold edition not registering that reguler is installed

I use to own heroes V; recently I bought the gold edition but found that when I attempted to play the original game off the first disk it told me the disk wasn't readable. Although the two expansions were installed and played succesfully. This meant that I had to uninstall the old game and reinstall this version to play my old saves. I want to know if this problem is just for my game or for all original heroes V games being played off gold. Also I would like to know why it won't play is this because of patches or different content from the original compared to gold?

well i had the same issue i couldn't play my heroes 5 already installed with complete edition disc, if i selected it from the programbar. but if you first run autorun.exe and you get to choose ^play heroes 5/ play heroes: hammers of faith / tribes of the east and you slect here to run just h5 it works, i guess it doesn't recognise the disc because wel first it's a different disc with different stuff on it and second they use a different protection on the complete edition discs, i think
