The new Nvidia display drivers version 196.21,have eliminated the black box at least for the 8 series,I can only test it on this series.
Thanks to haep the German Mod for passing on this information http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Funny isnt it how when I emailed nvidia years ago when this first happened with the 8-series, they said it wasn't their problem, it was Bluebytes - and now they're the ones who have fixed it. (Either way I now use an ATI card :P)

Weird, because I still get blackness on textures when I'm zoomed at certain distances. I run on 2 8800 GT's.

Hey Guys..
I just got my settlers 4 installed and had the same problem (9600GT notebook) but found this solution - download this modified 196.21 .inf file: Driver (http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/drivers/win7x64/196.21/disclaimer) the first file is the 196.21 driver, and the second one is the modified .inf.
So fix for laptop users:
Download the two files,
run the 19621_win7x64.exe
move the nv_disp.inf into the extracted folder (196.21_win7x64)
Run the setup
If windows ask if you wanna continue, just press yes.
And there you go, now you have a fully functional 196.21 driver working on you laptop! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
Hope this help you guys,

Just to say when I had my gaming laptop I found the laptopvideo2go drivers would cause me the dreaded bsod (blue screen of death) on boot up (this didn't happen on another laptop I had so it is dependant on hardware).
So if Stephmj's driver causes this, try the ngohq:
http://www.ngohq.com/
driver - I always found this one stable.

I've got the GeForce 8600M GT (notebook), and according to the information from Nvidia the 196.21 drivers don't support the 8M series for notebooks.
The latest drivers for 8M series - 197.16 - don't help getting rid of the black squares at all.
Does anyone know a driver for the 8M series that does remove the black squares???

I'll take that back. Didn't know that laptopvideo2go modded the drivers so that they are compatible with notebooks.
So after installing the 196.21 drivers from laptopvideo2go IT FINALLY WORKS!! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif
