Okay, this has happened now twice with two different disks. I just got back from returning the first and now this one doesn't work!!

My computer is a 3.4 ghz, 1.5 gb RAM, 256mb X600 ATI Radeon, DVD RW, CD ROM. Windows XP Media Edition 2004.

The setup program lets me get to all the way to the install part, you know, with the bars and stuff, then it just freezes almost instantly and becomes non-responsive.

When it gets there..go to my computer click on the drive that has the cd on it...see if thatll help start autorun. also let it sit there for a few minutes and see if it starts by itself...mine personally sat for about a minute before the installation process began.

From what I understand of your problem you should be able to try this -
1. Explore the BiA DVD
2. Copy all contents to the HDD
3. Run the install from the Harddrive.

I don't think you get it. People who are having this problem can't get the DVD to "boot up" in their DVD-ROM drive. Whether you go in through explorer or just insert the DVD, the green light stays on the the drive just clicks and clicks. You can't see any of the files to copy them to the hard drive.

Others say just update your firmware. I searched all over for a firmware update for my Drive, HLDS GDR8161B. I found one site that claimed to have firmware updates for this, and downloaded them. The instructions say to go to the C:\ prompt and type flashup...etc. I did this exactly as stated with only errors that flashup is not a valid command. I also wonder how updated this is when they tell you to go to the C prompt.

I have 2 computers that are less than 2 years old and this POS won't run on either of them. Total BS. We should all take them back to the stores for refunds. From reading what others have posted with many taking the discs back two or 3 times (I've had 2 now) stores like Best Buy must now have thousands of returned opened copies of this junk. I hope they send them all to ubi/gearbox and demand their money back. My system far exceeds all the listed specs. For them to release something that will just not play on a large percentage of machines out there is criminal!

DrZaius1985.... you are my hero.

You know what's up man.. I am having the same exact problem like you and what you have written must be praised.. I'm going to frame what you posted... CRIMINAL! Despicable that something like this was released to the gaming community in my opinion. Plus the worst part is that we can only bring this **** back for store credit since ''the software was opened sir''. Yeah that helps a lot...

I'm in the same position as you and have brought this game back 3 times and tried out new ones.. a complete waste of time and money since I had to drive basically all the way across town. Don't mean to complain.. but its just not right.

Turns out THOUSANDS of people are ''pissed''. lol. The manufacturer surely must have a logical explanation for this... I hope.

Try this.

To copy the files over go to my computer...go to the drive the cd is in, right click EXPLORE copy all those files to your hd (a folder..or your desktop..i would first name a folder BIA on your desktop then copy them there) then simply find the setup.exe file and start it.

this is interesting how many of you complain that it is the games fault and has absolutely nothing to do with your computers.

One game developed to work with such and such computer specs and tested extensively before mass production, then installed on hundreds if not thousands of computers that they have no control over how the owner takes care of it or whether they update anything.

Frustrating for the consumer..of course

Game manufacturers fault.....not entirely

Mine works fine....I guess I am not in the group of "thousands"

K Burke,

Question.. what if there is NOTHING, lol nada, in that drive where the cd is in. Even when I did go to explore there was absolutely nothing.. it kinda looked like an empty disc or maybe it just isn't read by my 20X ROM... i dunno. This is the case for 3 of the games that I bought and replaced over the day.

Excuses Excuses... Sloutions Solutions?!?!?!

Then I would say that you probably have one of the drives that conflicts with the write-protection they included.

If the DVD is in there...and you go to explore it and it comes up the same as there being no DVD in there...then yeah...most likely.

I build pcs for gamers. I always install two optical drives. One is a dvd/cdrom playback only and the other is a cdr/rw. I do not install any third party burning software. I do this just to avoid this kind of problem with copy protection.

I build my PCs the same way but I am inflicted with this same problem. The very first time I placed the disc into the dvd rom it just span around and nothing happened but I didn't lose my cool since I have seen this type of thing before with DVDs. I rebooted the computer with the disc in the DVD rom. Once booted I clicked on setup through explorer and all went well. I even played the first 4 chapters. But unfortunately that is/was the last time the dvd has worked. I only get the green light to flash and the dvd drive clicking and spinning no matter how many times I take disc out check for dust and reset. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_confused.gif
When I get home from work today I will see if there is a firmware update for my dvd drive and also do so more research if Nero (my cd burning software) could be causing this dvd drive hang.

This is uter bull****!
I just lost 50 bucks!
i bought the game and i have the same problem. Nothing happends. Blank zippo.
yes i have a cdrw so ****ing what? the game should only conflict with the use of the RW. i have taking three trips now. UBI FIX YOUR GAME!
no wait. That time has past. The game shouldn't need fixing. your selling to thousands of people that cant play. Am i supposed to take out my CD/rw just to play? no. Not fair.

Do you have any burning software installed? Including Nero? It does cause problems as well.

Gentlemen I had had the same problem with my game. i tried to intall at first and agve up on it because it would just spin and click on the drive. The next day I tried it again and after leaving the disk in the dvd rom for 5 min. the install menu came up. Was able to install and play for bout 2 hours. Quit game for awhile but did not remove the game from drive. went back to it and it started right away.I quit game and removed from hard dvd rom. Following day had the same problem. it spins and clicks but nothing happens for about five minutes. Almost went out and bought a new rom. However after doing this a few times I realized that it takes time to register into harddrive. Dvd games run different from cd games, I think. Now I just let the game sit in drive for a few min and then it starts. I think that is suppose to happened. That's what me thinks. If some 1 has more input please reply.

I don't know why the dvd behave like this but I will verify your findings because my computer is doing the same thing. I put the dvd rom in and it spins/clicks for about 3-4 minutes then poof everything is fine. I only have to remember that if I leave the dvd in the drive and I boot up the computer, windows doesn't load until that dvd boot sequence is complete http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_confused.gif.

To the people putting their dvd disks into their cd rom drives http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif omfg that is the funniest thing I have heard in a while. I apologize for laughing at your expense.

Back on topic. I am guessing that this is not normal dvd behaviour since my dvd movies don't do this (this is my first dvd game title). I would say that it is Ubi's protection system on the disk causing this. Can any one else shed some light on this?
