Does nobody realize how cheezy this game is looking? Take a look at the "abilities" in the "your crew" tab. Not realistic at all. I hope there are realism options to get rid of this crap. But it isn't likely. I have been having a lot of hope for this game, a lot more than other people. Now I am kinda starting to feel unsure. It looks like a joke.

after witholding website updates for how long now? pretty much ANYTHING would be an improvement, and it is ... but also somewhat depressing .... some of the crew 'abilities' for instance, like increasing torp damage, what?!@?

...why give crew members special abilities they could not have in real life?
Made the simulation into a childs game.

I think perhaps the idea of crew abilities is similar to what has been done in other games.
For example, take the idea of the crew ability of making torps do more damage. The crewman himself doesn't actually strap on TNT to the warhead or anything like that. I think its to simulate how someone with experience or specialisation can.... ah what the F am I saying, its B/S isn't it. Had you all going there for a minute didn't I!!

There is more news: This is a game!!
Some of you better read books or invent a time mashine to get the REAL feeling!

@GertFroebe_neu
I would rather pay $40 for a "sim" than what it would take for a time machine. Plus, as much as I love books, I don't read them.
SH3 was a "game" too but it satisfied the "sim" side that some people want quite well.
There is a way to get the REAL feeling, as GertFroebe_neu said. Anyone want to go in on buying the type IX that is in Chicago and restoring it to make it seaworthy? I'll put $400 down. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

They should give the cook the ability to make a really fancy soup that raises morale! It'll be called "Souper Soup"!

They sort of did do that, so I can't tell if your being sarcastic or not? It's a passive attribute.

http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif The "Super Soup" actually would be ok. That seems plausible.
HOWEVER, this does not:
(Torpedo officer) Active abilities:
• Pre-heat torpedo - Pre-heating the torpedo systems just before the firing, the torpedo damage and speed will be increased.
• Overcharge torpedo - Both steam and electric torpedo engines can be overcharged beyond normal limits in order to increase the torpedo range, all of this with the cost of accuracy.
• Circle torpedo - Torpedoman can set a torpedo to be a circle runner intentionally. A circle running torpedo can be an efficient weapon against a pursuing destroyer.
You cannot DO these things in real life! It's disgusting for a series that has been focused on realism.
IMO it would probably be better for sales for the game to be more realism-centered for the sim community. Sure its a small group, but I bet its larger and more willing to pay than the following type of person:
"Psuedo-history fiction action fan who also happens to like a WW2 u-boat theme" <--- (never have I seen such a person)

Is the chief's ability going to give us 50kt top speeds so you can get into position to launch your "100kt instiffect T3000 atomic GPS homing" torpedos granted by unlocking the Torp officer's perk?
