After all these years playing off line I got on line last night.
Got help from Misfit_GUN_N4U
Thanks by the way to this person.
I tried out War_Clouds_WF
1st try shot down by flack.
2nd try did ok, distroyed about 5 trucks, and 2 flack guns after looseing rudder controll half way through.
3rd atempt got shot down by some one in a FW190.
After hitting the ground I got kicked off surver.
I think it had to do with 2 green bars.
Tried out 4.08, kinda liked it but had some one steal my kill one time, and the blue team was pritty dang good, I was flying red.
Tried out a site that had only 1943 planes, and was shot up by some one on my team but made it back to base/ whats up with that
Had one but head bound and determand to shoot me down on there, and I went into a Taskeegee tornato down to the ground where he crashed into a tree LOL.
Whached the hole thing looking back at him.
I had Red stares, and so did he.
All white plane how could he have missed them.
Oh well I had fun any ways http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

As far as warclouds go, the reason why you got kicked ( i believe) is that they have a 3 death kick policy. I believe it is something like 3 deaths in 5 minutes you get kicked and banned for approximatley 2 minutes or so. The system was probably implemented to try and make people save their aircraft and not die rather than staying till in the fight until you are dead.

EDIT: 2 green bars is good ping btw, what you don't want are yellow and/or red bars.

Whatcha been flying on there?
I suppose something with decent ground busting capabilities?
Stick with WC good bunch of regulars there, whether they fly on red or blue side...
About kill stealing, well you'll see ********s on every server, so... that is kinda unavoidable.

About those guys that shoot at friendly, check this out; I flew on Winds of War on desert map in FW. I saw Bf-109 on my tail, I signaled him shaking my wings and showing profile so he can see crosses. But still, he followed me... a stupid move. Since he got P-38 on his six. I said "check your six 109" he never did and 38 made a short work on him. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/34.gif
Target fixation is very dangerous.

I had many such events on "Realistic" servers. One time in LA-5 similar thing... I shaked wings and even warn the guy in P-40 on my tail. Didn't helped... he riddled me... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/59.gif
But this one at least said "sorry", after I bailed. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I think new peeps forget what team they are on. I did that at first too (sorry). I still check often to be sure. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Warclouds is good if you're new since they have lables, can't stand them myself. If you want full switch, as real as you can get within the sim, then go to Zekes vs Wildcats or Spits vs 109's. Uk dedicated has a few of the "noob" switches still turned on. Sorry, I didn't know what else to call them. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/touche.gif

As far as you getting shot down by what you thought were friendlies, be careful. Some of the gamer type servers let you fly whatever you want on both sides. You can't necessarily distiguish friendly from enemy by plane type unless you're on one of the full switch type servers.

Ignore the "noob" labels... fly what you want and enjoy it.

For some of us, and for various reasons ranging from "I just don't want to be bothered with that..." to "I suffer from C.S.S. (Can't See $**t..)" the "full switch" settings that make some beat their chests while tossing around the "noob" label to anything less than that are just not their cup of tea. That doesn't make either of thyem a better or worse virtual pilot... it is all about finding your place and where you can make the best immersion/challenge/fun trade offs. I don't mind tight icons.. in fact I prefer them as opposed to the no icons no nothing settings.. and I see nothing "noobish" about it. I still crack up at the night whern the 99th was running with "full switch" settings and somone called out over comms.... "Redtail Mustang you have a 109 on your 6!! Break left!!" and every Redtail Mustang in there.. at least that I could see broke left....

Fly what you want to man... and have as much fun as you can.

Yep, go for Zeke vs Wildcat. It's a beaut http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/10.gif

If only they'd throw in some early-war stuff. The Ki-27 is such an online hangar queen http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/sadeyes.gif

We both had red stares on, and I allwas make shure before shooting.
Got into a rats nest on fallenangels, and got my 1st online kill but there was about 5 other plane in the tangle http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
Waffen something or another was the pilot I think.
I dont know if its the same one on here or not.
I found out tonight the hard way by waiting to long though.
Really dont like the Icon's eather.

I have been flying the 334th server and having a lot of fun http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif It is not a "full switch" server, but the guys on TS are great and there is a bit more fast action than some of the other servers. My favorite thing about the 334th server is that bombers and attack aircraft are ALLOWED to strafe with ALL guns (including fronts)w/o getting kicked for vulching. I really enjoy low level para-frag runs on the enemy airfields and it is nice being allowed to open up with the fwd firing guns as well http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/784.gif

I vote for 109_vs_spitfire. Missions are from 39' to 45'. War Clouds is though for me, since i fly only Bf109 http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/sadeyes.gif. Ou, and CZ_HP_dedicated, east front mainly - nice(not enought east missions on other servers imo).

Thanks for the input, and heads up on servers http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
I will have to better at taht.
I see some of these people do things that are unbeleaveable.
Going head on with some one, and there on my six like that.
I try to get my plane to do some thing like that, and I go into a stall http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/bigtears.gif

Try the coops that some set up. I enjoy these. As far as icons, regular and limited are fine by me. I have trouble seeing what type of aircraft it might be. Some have computers/displays that just can't handle high resolution. Some in my squad have awesome computers but these guys still can not make the aircrafts. All about what makes it a good time for you.

Yuo can also get kicked for shooting your own trucks (or this leading then to a negative points ban). I got disorientated 2 months ago, killed my own trucks, and was kicked/banned from one of my favorite servers for a week.

That's what I thought, but it was the only reason I could think of for being kicked(banned). There were only two players online, so it wasn't a mistaken team kill etc.
Some servers ban after -400 is reached.

Yep the 1st one was a good feeling, and with all those others after the same plane made it that much better, and in a I16.
One of my fav's http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif
I got to get Team Speak set up on my Rig for Coop's, but will be there in time.
Just starting out, and getting a feel for the hole thing after 5 years off line, and working up to full real.

Ratchet, read this:

There is a free .pdf file of it you can download.

Thanks MrMojok,
Have started reading the pdf and i`ve already learned a few things, could you or anybody out there recomend sites/servers that is newbie friendly ie, allows things like icons and things of that ilke, then i might be able to get air under butt before somebody turns my kite into a tea bag.
Thanks again Ratchet.

There are two "UK Dedicated" servers, UKDedicated1 and UKDedicated2. They allow icons and external views. One of them allows no-cockpit view too, but i can't remember if that's 1 or 2.

WarClouds does not allow external views, but you do have tight icons. They are not visible from as far away as the game defaults to when you play offline. And to see an enemy icon you will have to get even closer, but they are there.

Am i right in thinking that i need have 1946 and patch up to 4.08 before i can get on online ?

MrMojok

That's true for the servers I mentioned. If you connect to hyperlobby and have a look at the list there are still some servers running older versions of the game, but I think they are pretty few and far between.

Totally agree. After reading this thread, I just popped into 334th server for the first time and had some fun trying out the AR which I'm not familiar with and others that I should be more familiar with but managed to make an @ss of myself anyways http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif. Bottom line is no one hassled me and I had a great time. Listened in on 334th comms and didn't get around to saying hello but they sound like a great bunch of guys who like to have a fun time. "Fun" is still the goal IMAO not virtual prestige.

Just spent 8+ hours on Fallenangels, and man is my but in pain LOL http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
Got up to 860 on the stats, and shot a few people down http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif
Cant tell a lie.......I got shot down too.
Some of them people on there are real good.
But with more practice I'll get there too.
Man what a rush.

I will have to trie some of the other servers that you have mentiond.

I just want to pitch in about the "arcade severs" (icons, no cockpit, externals etc.) and "realistic servers" (no/tight icons, cockpit on, no externals, etc.).

I often fly on Warclouds, Zekes & Wildcats, and The Big Top, and enjoy all of them. They are, however, different experiences.

I find that the realistic servers tend to feature long missions, teamwork (if you are on TS), people flying at varying altitudes (ground pounders going low, ZnB'ers going high, etc.). I also tend to get shot down a lot more on those servers.
I find the "arcade" servers feature quick action, a chance to fly lots of planes, low-level dogfights, and not as much planned teamwork (i.e. if you drag an enemy back to base, someone will bounce him - teamwork, but without comms). Sadly, I have seen more accusations of 'bad behaviour' (e.g. killstealing) on these servers, but I just ignore it and it doesn't spoil anything.

I really enjoy the arcade servers for a chance to get in the air quickly and practice my dogfight skills - in the last few days I've even started to win the occasional 1v1 duel!
I enjoy flying in the realistic servers to fly with a team, do some groundpounding, and fly in a more structured setting.

After listerning to what you guy`s have said as soon as i`ve got things up and running i`ll give one of these arcade style servers a go, after all its like you say its all about haveing fun and learning at the same time, and thats the key if you can do both you`ll keep frustration at bay and keep going back for more.

Tally ho, Ratchet

Heh welcome to the fun! i was on Winds of War(fallen angels) for a couple hours last night too and it was a blast http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif We lost Tunisia but we won Kuban. On good nights you'll find around 30+ players(like last night) and some decent team work as well http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif red usually has better team work then blue and they love nothing more then saddling up 7+ bombers and making a run at blues targets. You should definatly get comms setup for any server you play on! it brings the teamwork factor up a big notch and can really help with immersive play.

Oh that's classic BC.
With the 310th VFS we all had identical p-47's
Depending on model. Polished finnish, yellow nosees, red white and blue tails. As much as we flew in lareg flights i'm surprised the same never happend to us.
