I'm thoroughly amazed and some of the work that's done by the community here. I've worked as a news photographer/editor for about 10 years and am impressed with the story telling.

Do any of you directors post any "Making of" threads for the movies you produce? Last night I viewed 'The Eye", "Alder Tag', and 'I Promiss'. The story lines really drive on emotions. I shudder to think how many takes it took to get the destruction of the Tirpitz just right. A Lugar pistol brings down the heroe's Spit. Flames in the cockpit~! GET OUT~!! Focke Wolfes vengeful attack on a downed Allied Pilot -- sounds of a grieving wife who will not see her beloved again.

I'm doing research into your techniques because story telling with pictures has been my art since I was a teenager. Albiet my medium takes the form of 1'20" news stories, I still consider it art.

Can any of you provide any specifics on what you had to go through in editing these great sequences? It would be a fascinating read.

Well, there are rarely any specific threads describing the processes of a particular production, but in the majority of threads where a film is "launched" there is often a good few pages in accompaniement after a while where questions are asked and answered, and different techniques discussed and compared, etc. Do a search for threads with the name of the movie in the title, and you will likely find threads with many pages going into some intricate detail about how certain scenes were done, or special effects produced, etc.

Contact GL2 on these forums.

You have NO idea how complex and dynamic the process is....The story behind the creation of the forthcoming "Faith, Hope, and Charity" film is a story worth telling, believe me!! Wish you had been on the sidelines watching(and documenting) for the past 9 months...You could have written a great piece, which could have been included as a bonus on the FH&C film's eventual DVD and/or Website.

Again, contact GL2. He is FH&C's Producer.

So you want a directors walkthrough 粐ぎ" you粐ぎ冤l be dissapointed 粐ぎ" you see 50% was stolen and the rest made up as I went along depending on what resources were lying around (oh my gawd - .I粐ぎ冦 becoming Paperazzi!)

The Eye of the storm started with the carrier take off 粐ぎ" which was an exercise on two themes. The first being to fly two land based planes off carriers in the worst possible weather. Of course this is pure theft from the plot of the Doolittle raid with gratuitous addition of IL2s cos I like them. This bit worked 粐ぎ" great cinema.

The second theme was the long climb from filthy weather through the couds to burst out into pure sunshine. Even if you fly a lot this is a great sensation. Now this didn粐ぎ冲 work as everyone got bored and winged about the pictures being fuzzy etc.

After that the main winge was about the plot 粐ぎナ展here are all these planes going?粐ぎツ with impatient shuffling that obviously meant that 粐ぎナ鉄tenka - you haven粐ぎ冲 blown anything up yet so there must be more to come? 粐ぎナ

Right 粐ぎ" that decided me to put the punters in their place 粐ぎ" they want violence so I粐ぎ冦 not gonna give them any (yet), they want a plot 粐ぎ" well 90% of the other so called plots seem to be two fighters chasing each other around 粐ぎ" so the next bit has NO PLANES. After that we needed a target so rummage around the history box and what do we find 粐ぎ" the battle of the river plate 粐ぎ" OK substitute Tirpitz for Graf Spee and we粐ぎ决e in business.

The next problem is that just watching a ship sail into port is pretty boring粐ぎツヲ..
So a fishing boat was recruited粐ぎツヲ.. then a boat needs a crew 粐ぎ" so the nearest two squad members that were idling around were conscripted and I had characters.

The theme that then developed was the angry argumentative 粐ぎナ泥avid粐ぎツ and the giant 粐ぎナ敵oliath粐ぎツ that hadn粐ぎ冲 even noticed that the other wants a fight.

The marriage of the fishing boat to the battleship worked nicely 粐ぎ" so from that point on was adopted to serve as an equivalent of 粐ぎナ鍍he common man粐ぎツ in Shakespere 粐ぎ" this links the sections of the plot from scene to scene and serves as light entertainment as the character of the Scottish captain develops into a modern day stroppy Don Quixote charging at windmills.

Now living abroad I really detest dubbed films so needed some Germans on the Tirpitz for my character to argue with 粐ぎ" surprisingly no Germans volonteered but a Swiss and Austrian loved to be the German but of any jokes going.

This left plenty of latitude to develop the misunderstanding theme 粐ぎ" now this is based on real life experience with a Scottish friend who when abroad can粐ぎ冲 believe the foreigners can粐ぎ冲 understand him (it粐ぎ冱 hard enough for an English to understand that accent) so he talks at the foreigners 粐ぎ" then when they can粐ぎ冲 understand he talks louder, and louder and then adopts a pidgin english which he thinks is foreign talk粐ぎツヲ.

Which leaves us at part 3 粐ぎ" which is the recompense for those who were still waiting for the gratuitous violence. Now this is the easy bit 粐ぎ" basicly you fly 8 IL2s several times towards the Tirpitz with a variation of human and AI pilots and you will have loads of violence. The only tricky thing is preparing and testing about a dozen static cameras to catch the action.

Now the plot of the final section was easy to work out - the last 4 bombers sink Tirpitz fly back to carriers and land. Technicaly it was probably the most difficult 粐ぎ" it took a lot of testing with static cameras to get the attack sequence. The sequence is a mix of several runs with human pilots to get the internal bombing shots and ace AI at lower level so planes were well visible and bombs hit the spots where cameras were set.

Effectively here there were 粐ぎナ杜ust have粐ぎツ shots which structured the sequence eg. bomb aimer view, bombs hitting target粐ぎツヲ.

It was then with the hours of labouring over the sinking ship shots that I got the King Kong syndrome 粐ぎ" effectively the monster had become the tragic hero. A test viewing by the SAC identified this. This meant a recut to interspace the carrier landing sequences, balancing the tragedy on both sides and making things a bit more upbeat 粐ぎ" as it was supposed to be more of a ripping yarn than a greek tragedy.

The last scene was essentialy paced by the music which was picked before any filming. Some of the flight camera work is a bit rough as it was filmed in realtime co-op mode as battle damage tended to dissapear on Ntrack recordings.

However in the end the King Kong syndrome took over again and I had to rescue some of my characters to fight another day粐ぎツヲ..

Right that disillusioned yah 粐ぎ" y see it粐ぎ冱 all random
