I've searched the forums for a solution to my problem but I can't seem to find anything - I'm trying to run the S7 demo on my laptop but each time I get the following error message:

Graphics adaptor does not meet minimum requirements.
At least 70 MB of available memory required, only -1877 MB detected.

I have an ATI Mobility HD 5740 (512MB) which should be ok to at least get the demo up and running. I also have 4GB of memory and an Intel i5 processor (2.26GHz). Any ideas what the problem could be?

Thanks in advance.

Probably similar to my problem:
http://forums.ubi.com/eve/foru...1083365/m/6311050648 (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/6061083365/m/6311050648)

Try:
bottoming out graphics.
matching the refresh rate to the display's rate.
turning off sound.
running in windowed mode.
running in different compatibility modes (NT, XP, ME, Vista, etc).
update video/audio/etc drivers.
rollback drivers.
try different combination of drivers/window/sound.
set priority in task manager to above normal.
if dual processors, set affinity to 1st processor.
disable all Windows visual effects.

i might try compatibility mode first for your problem, but none of these solutions worked for me...

Thanks xackee.

Game won't even fire before I get the error message so I'm unable to tinker with graphics settings.

I've already tried some of the various other methods including running in windows mode, trying various compatibility modes, updating drivers etc.

Why is it saying I have -1877 MB of memory detected when I have a 512 MB video card??

Shame because I think I would like to buy this game but not going to shell out if I can't even get the demo to fire http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

Are you sure you have 512mb dedicated graphics

The laptops I have had in the past are very low but then use ram to increase memory. Maybe your card only has 64mb dedicated and then takes the rest of your systems ram

DirectX Diagnostic tool shows 2225 MB approx total video memory.

@dez08: my card has 256mb dedicated, although it is mobo integrated.

@danedwardsuk: you can edit the appdata in your settlers folder, or in vista or win7, in my documents, in the s7 folder. in the config folder, there should be an video options file and sound config file.

The retail box only lists the following as supported for Mobility's

HD 2600, HD 4670, HD 4860 and HD 4870

as for the laptops don't have large cards

My MSI laptop has a 512MB dedicated http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

cause windows is sharing some of your ram with it as needed that's called shared memory, so if when running a game it maxes out your Video Cards memory it uses some of the physical ram to substitute, however it's a poor substitute as physical ram runs slower than Graphics memory

Anyway doing a quick google i can comfirm yours has 512Mb dedicated so provided the game supported it it should work
