Uh will Fuju be support dx8 or should i buy a new vid card (just bought geforce 5200 fx 2 months ago). Im looking at a geforce 7300 GS 256 pcie for bout 90 dollars and wondering if i should get it or not... any help would be great

Edit* the box for my Verto Geforce Fx 5200 Pci says ensures the best performance and application compatibility for all directx9 apps. sooooo does that mean its not doing what is sould because its very choppy when playing MP with dx9. possibly its not my vid card at all?<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

I don`t think that card is shader 2 compliant, that is probably the problem. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

I'd honestly recommend you buy a new graphics card anyway. Even if the assets were recompiled to work with the older shader models you'd still get pretty poor performance with an older generation card. Believe me when I say you wouldn't regret upgrading http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif Definately if you play other games as well anyway.

Though if your question is "will they make it work?"... then I don't actually know the answer for certain I'm afraid.

Also, I believe the video card you currently have is the lowest possible for running the game. That would explain the stuttering etc. Also, watch those differing interfaces. Your current video card is PCI make sure before you buy the 7300 GS that you have a PCI-Express slot on your motherboard. If not you need a new motherboard along with your new video card.

im sorta a *gasp* noobie but will a PCI-express fit in a PCI? and how could i find out if i have a pci-e slot? Whats the cheapest vid card that can support this game and maybe a few game in the future(askign for alot i know) that fits a pci slot?<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

I dont like the word noob and youre question is not nobish at all!

The answer yes they are to very diffrant connections to youre motherboard. So if you dont have a pci express slot you must use pci card. They look totalu diffranthttp://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

There are som know problemes withe a sirten gforce card cant rember wiche. Im shure sombody her knows more!<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Graphic cards come in 3 different formats
PCI - oldest
AGP- middle of the road
PCI-e - Newest

You said that the card you have at the moment is PCI and this is the oldest typr of card you can buy and thus isn't going to really cut it with todays games. But you might have a motherboard that has an AGP slot (you won't have a PCI-e slot I shouldn't imagine). Post back with the make and model number of you motherboard and I can tell you what graphic card slots you have. If you don't know what motherboard you have download and install Everest Home and run the report feature, this will tell you the make and model number of your motherboard. Post that in here and then I can tell you, or if you're not sure just run the report feature and save a copy as a .txt file and then copy and paste the results in here.

@redkiller

You have a pci-Xpress board, but your video card is not too good for the game, it isn`t shader 2 compliant, you should upgrade the video card to one that is fully dx9.0c hardware compliant.
The list shows both an ATI Rage XL PCI videocard and an Nvidia FX5200 card, neither of which are really up to the game.
You don`t list how much memory you have but 1gb should be regarded as the minimum, 2gb would de better.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Fuju lol, it is rather odd as to why MP does not support atleast directx level 8 graphics cards. There are still alot of people with those and the source engine does give the developers and ability to in someway support cards with direct x 6 and up levels... Someone could possibly make a fix for this though.

I copied this from another poster but its all true a gm closed it which was bull**** but read up

Ok, first off.
On the box clearly says:
Minimum requirements: 128 Mb DirectX 90 compliant videocard
Also it says it's fully supported by ALL Nvidia FX cards. FX cards are DirectX 90 compatible.

However, when you do run the game in DirectX 90 on ANY FX card, it's UNPLAYABLE, because FX cards cannot handle the stress DirectX 90 requires.

If you continue to have problems with your performance in game, try forcing a lower level DirectX version. Start at the lowest level and go up from there till you find a good level of FPS.

-dxlevel 70
-dxlevel 80
-dxlevel 81
-dxlevel 90

-Open Steam, then Play games
-Right click the Source game, click properties, then Launch options
-add -dxlevel XX, click ok, then close.

However the steam engine is compatible with DirectX 81.

And ALL FX cards can handle ANY Source engine based game EASILY in DirectX 81, like Halflife 2
and Dark Messiah in HIGH DETAIL.

So I have this 256 Mb FX 5700 card which is more then enuff to play Source engine based games in medium detail against a steady 60 fps in DirextX 81.

The only problem with Dark Messiah is that if you decide to play singleplayer on a FX card in DirectX 81, you cannot see from underwater, and the movies (even the startupscene from ubisoft) are not visible since you made them DirectX90 ONLY.

And in MP it's even worse, you can't see ANYBODY all skins in multiplayer are DirectX 90 ONLY.

So it's very clear you made a huge mistake here.
You knew for a FACT that this game is NOT playable with a FX card in DirectX 90 and since you have to get underwater in certain levels it is NOT playable in DirectX 81. And the Multiplayer isn't playable in any DirectX xx

So there are 2 options here.

either you make the game FULLY DirectX 81 compatible in patch 1.02, so it's FX Video Card compatible like it says on the box.

OR you will have a COMPLETE refund to ALL FX Video Card owners.

I'm waiting for official statement.

For all you noobs saying: go buy a new videocard.
For your information: any FX card can run this game decent at 60 fps steady if the developers make it DirectX 81 fully compatible.
