This one explains a lot of torpedo problems if I'm not the only one to experience it. I have no fix, but I do have a work around.

Here is what happens when using auto targeting. Those that use manual targeting need to do their own checks.

I set the torpedo depth on a target to 10 feet. I was at the Attack scope and hit L to lock the target. The sea was rough and I had to click L several times. I noticed that when I typed it more than once, the depth reset to 16 feet. I changed it back to 10 feet and this time clicked the red light over the "Fire" button twice. I had the same result, the torpedo depth reset itself to 16 feet. I tried it on a medium merchant and it reset from 10 to 21 feet. Whoa! That explains a lot of recent under shots.

I was running the stock 1.5 game. No MODs. I may go back and check 1.4 to see if it happened there and I just didn't notice it. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/51.gif

Please confirm this.

The work around. Just before you fire check to see that your torpedo depth setting hasn't changed. If you fire with the correct depth the torpedo keeps that setting until you lock again.

I've had unusually calm seas since playing 1.5 so I havn't noticed exactly what causes it but I have noticed my torpedo depth settings to be at a really really odd depth when I go to set them up. They don't seem to stay at 5 meters as default before you mess with the setting :/

Interesting Dave,
I am running 1.5 with only one mod. and that is a mod that makes the chronograph (the clock, stopwatch thing) smaller. (made by dgrayson).
I went on a cruise to check out what you noticed. I found similar results. I can lock on a ship, set the depth, unlock the ship, hit lock again and the depth changes. From what I can see it is resetting the depth to 3.3 feet less then that ships draft. I checked a handy draft chart I have and the depth the auto lock thing would Change to was always 3.3 feet less then the draft. Here are the ships I checked. I was in the U-Boat Missions.
Ship.......................Draft....Auto target setting
Somers Destroyer.....13.8.....10.5
Omaha Light Cruiser..14.8.....11.5
Northampton H.Cruiser.23......19.7
Baltimore H. Cruiser...21.3.....18.0
Fleet Carrier.............22.3.....19.0

I notice the same as Liddabit. My default torpedo depths are all screwy. They range from 6 to 12 sometimes 25. I am starting to regret the whole add-on, 1.5 thing more each time I play. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/51.gif

Hello alieneddiexxx,
It may be possible that Ubi may have decided that if you were on auto targeting you may also want the depth of the torpedo set and they figured the best place to hit a ship was 3.3 feet above the ships draft. It may have been done to make auto targeting easier.

Never thought of that. Guess I am used to doing it myself. Getting a frustrated when I set them, lose lock because of waves or switching to scope another target, than having to set them back after UBI decides it wants them set somehow else. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/shady.gif

Despite the bugs I'm having alot of fun. I'm just glad there is that marker on the map telling you where to patrol, because there is another bug that tells you to patrol in a grid but the marker is about 500km away from that grid :P! I'de be patrolling forever without a mission update and run out of gas :P
