View Full Version : Trim on a slider?

Before I start programming my HOTAS setup I was wondering if LOMAC will allow you to assign trim to an axis (such as a rotary on my X45) on your joystick like you can in IL-2?
I find this an easier way to trim the aircraft without having to use the POV.
P.S. and no, Im not RayBanJockey in disguise

The following functions can be assigned to an axis:
pitch, roll, rudder, thrust, left thrust, right thrust, horizontal view, vertical view, and zoom.

nor do i like this guy or care, but some of your answers are just rediculous.....you must be an idiot if you think using a tool that came with the game is cheating...he was on top of things when he set his stuff up i too use trim on slider and know many others in forgotten battles. let me remind u this is a competitive game and one cannot cheat like in other games like CFS. A CHEAT OR A MOD IS SOMETHING NOT OFFILATED WITH THE GAME.............we have learned this before in games like cfs that has the option to modify flight models etc....so regarding to the last post i think you should THINK before u type somethin

Im pretty sure that the planes in LOMAC will need to be trimmed manually - which may come as a shock to those use to flying auto-trimed jets.

DOH!
Any chance that will change, I also own a X45 and it would be terrific to be able to adjust the trim with the two rotaries. But if not, meh, I'll live and still no doubt love the game.

No need for trim on a slider for jets for two reasons:
1. If you're going for realistic controls then jets have trims on the thumb hat like someone above noted.
2. Being FBW means that there is no such thing as control forces becoming so heavy as to lock up your controls necessitating trim power assist. Unlike WWII birds human strength will not be a limiting factor in how far you can throw the stick at any speed. Your endurance and/or airframe limits are though.

Sounds weird to me. Maybe you have to trim some of the russian jets? At least modern western jets with fly-by-wire systems "auto-trims". U point the nose of the plane where u wanna fly and it takes u there..spot on. Since the planes are also unstable in design, having to manually trim the plane would be impossible. Or am I completely wrong here???
Im quite used to trim the planes in IL-2 FB, so that won't be much of a fuzz /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

hm i thought the HAT was used to control the radar cursor (pointer?) maybe its another pov button they have, anyway, in lomac we can pick our targets like in falcon? or press a key and it locks automatically? (the last one would suck)

Whats that saying ... 'aviate, navigate, communicate .. ummm .. then radiate'??
I prefer to get my plane all trimmed up first before i start mucking around with radar range and antenna elevation.

In flanker you need to trim all the planes. Correct me if im wrong anybody but Im pretty sure we'll need to do that as well for the A-10 and F-15C as they are not fly-by-wire in LOMAC

In Flanker I do use my X-36 rotaries for trim adjustments. It just barely works.
To be realistic I suppose I should use my hat switch for incremental trim adjustment but since I don't have a TrackIR, it just works better for POV.

Perhaps Stormin can shed some light on this matter?
Do we have to trim ALL of the planes, or just some, in that case, which ones? /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

ok, this is a picture of a Cougar HOTAS stick...
but it is a replica of the real F-16 stick..
http://users.chello.be/cr41454/Hotas/images/F16-21_small.gif
the POV switch, or HAT ( upper most right, round grey button ) what we Simmers use to control the view, a real pilot uses that to Trim his aircraft. pushing it up and down to trim the elevator, and left and right to trim aileron.
make no mistake, aircraft with FBW, still needs to be trimed manually.
regards.

RBJ used a flaw in Il2 trim system to make very tight turns by adding lots of trim using a slider, and he insists that that doesn't count as cheating, unconvincingly.
I'll be using a CHProducts yoke to fly with, and it has a trim wheel wired in series to the pitch pot anyway /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

The rotaries in the F1/16/18 are used for radar range, and antenna elevation..which are far more important than trim in the "booth".

Please, we are not going to start a 10+ page debate on the trim exploit on this board. If you want to argue it go to the IL2 forums where it has been beaten to death
