There is a puzzle solution in Haven that bears directly on the solution to a puzzle somewhere else. However, that's all I'll say on the matter and I'll leave you to find the connections http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif.

You needed a clue from Haven to solve a puzzle in Serenia. How did you solve it if you didn't finish Haven?

I finished Haven but I couldn't think of anything it helped me with. but NOW I remember, the "snake".

In Serenia I just assumed that my premonition gear (aka necklace) where to once more spoil how to handle the snake, so I never bothered to look at the flashback, but I loaded a file and played that part over again and saw that it didnt help at all. So yeah, I get it now.

On another note, I'm not going to say "why bother with Spire" but didnt anyone find it wierd that you didnt need the code till... well, I assume later.

I havent finished yet, but I got to the dream and all I completed was Haven. You'd think since Haven and Spire are fairly equivalent in importance and game structure, that you had to complete them both to progress past a certain point (like you had to complete the four equivalent ages in Myst, the 3 in Exile, or the 4 age/age pairs in Uru, or even Er'cana and Ahnonay in POTS). This is the first time we've seen two very equivalent ages which do not have equivalent prerequisite status.

Each element from the Prison Ages is eventually needed before you can complete the game (unless you get lucky or have an incredible amount of patience), but you can also go to Serenia at almost any time without having to complete either Prison Age, so really, I think Revelation is fairly wide-open as far as how it lets you approach the game right down to the wire. It's possible to get into Dream, IIRC, without completing Spire or Haven. All you have to do is visit one so that when you come back, you trigger the sequence with Achenar linking away from the balcony of Yeesha's bedroom.

If you're going to ask questions like that then why bother playing the game at all?

I'm sorry, but DUH!

Don't mean to be judgemental but it's hard not to. I suppose you're one of those folks who reads the end of a book first, and watches trailers and goes around saying "I've seen that movie".

Another interesting thing about Rev is that there are puzzles that are unnecessary to solve to finish the game, namely: the crystal viewer. I finished the whole game without ever using it.

But then, having played the demo I already knew where the linking chamber was, so I just went straight there after Yeesha disappeared. I kept thinking throughout the game that I was going to have to go back and signal Atrus at the end of the game. When that didn't happen I went back and did the viewer just for fun.

I didn't mind playing Haven and i would have done it even if it was optional, but now it wasnt.
However, back when I asked the question couldnt think of any action or clue in Haven that did help me. so i though "Could it have been optional?" and thus the question.

But you obviously didnt get that Bul.

Well, Haven also (assuming you payed attention to the journals) outlined the transformation of Achenar from raging psychopathic murderer to regretful compassionate tree-hugger http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif. As you go through Haven you get a glimpse at Achenar as he progressed and this would theoretically increase the likelyhood that you would trust him when it became necessary to. It's not something that gives quantitative, repeatable results, but especially for a person who is experienced with the history of Sirrus and Achenar, it really depicts a major turn-around for one of the series' most infamous villains.
