hi trippedandfell, welcome to the forums!

first question: how do you quit the game? wit the symbol in the right bottom corner or with ALT-F4? This last method might cause a crash of Uru.

and

are similar questions, maybe the answer is in those threads.
If not, post a complete Dxdiag here, it might be another problem with your confioguration.
goodluck!

I though Windblowz XP didn't have BSOD? meh.
$2,100? my dell is brand new and i only got it for $500.00 and it plays everything fine as can be.
guess that just shows that you don't need to spend alot to get alot..
The only upgrades i did my self were more memory (that i had laying around the house) and the Gforce Video card.

No not at all. just claiming that you make do with the money you have or don't want to spend for that matter..
anyway i think dell has gone the way of the once good gate-ways and have become junk just like the rest of the computer componies out there...
I am sure you have the best of the best in your machine and that is fine. i am just stating that you could have build the same thing for less then how much you spent for that (alot less).
I am not flaming or arguing with you. i am sure the reasone you got that computer was a good one and by all means i have seen the models you have and it is far supierer then mine since i got the lowest piece of junk model they had at that time.
I got mine just so i could rip it apart and upgrade the heck out of it for less then what i would have originaly paied for it.
I am sure you will have lots of wonderfull years with your new Dell as i have in the past with mine. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif Sorry i couldn't help with your quest for an answer to your problem but good luck in your search. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I do have a question about your 'gforce6800 viedo card', did that come standard in your computer? cuz mine came with a junky intel onboard chip that was one heck of a pain to get past since dell has aton of back-up software on their new computer and i had to do a whole new install of windblowz XP just so i could install my GForceVideo card.

H Trippedandfell,

I'm not a real techie person and I do hope Heimdall or another tech advisor takes a look at your post ( and not such a one as kweaper, http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/10.gifadvise to him: it's well you vent your opinion but please then start you post with the words this is not a sollution or something like that http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif makes things clearer)

Anyway, back to your problem, I see you have win XP service pack 2 installed. I heard that this can give problems with Uru. You might see if you can roll back to the previous service pack, with all manual updates between them. See the sticky thread from Heimdall at the top of this forum.
Did you check all his advise threads on tuning the computer for Uru?

And have you tried the one version older driver for your card? It is quite possible that the newest version includes features which do not agree with Uru.

Hope you can get past the crashing!

I think this is one of those times i should have just kep my mouth shut... :P

I ain't downing his comp, it is a nice computer.
I wasn't trying to flame him, i just think i stuck my foot in my mouth (Kweaper has a bad habit of doing that).
Sorry for any of the inconvenient i have coused anyone. I will be more carefull in the future.

I know you weren't doing those things, that's why I put the wink behind it. But this is the technical advise forum and it can be annoying to people with questions if non-answer post comes between their question and the answer.
oops, might mean that my post is now also such a post. Let's drop the matter and instead break our minds on why Uru crashes on his computer. What driver are you using Kweaper?

trippedandfell,

Questions:

1. How are you quitting Uru, by using the icon in the lower right corner of the Uru screen or by Alt-F4?

2. While playing Uru, do you use Shift-Tab to temporarily go back to the Desktop or some other program?

3. What is the exact wording of the IRQ error?

i am not sure i understand what you are asking.
Do you mean my Graphics driver (Windows XP/2000
Version: 56.72)?

-------------------------------------------
trippedandfell, are any of the textures missing from the ages (may look like snow covered lands) when you play Uru?
I am guessing (this is only a guess) that you graphics card\driver might not be compatible with uru and it causes it to fail when exiting.

Sounds to me like an unhandles mapper support problem but what kind i have no idea.

Are you running any kind of Anti-virus,spyware,spamware or firewall when you are playing Uru?

There are 2 ways to exit the game.
1: go to the bottom right corner and click the X that will pop up.
2: Hit F4 to bring up the Uru settings panel then click the X that says quit under it.

also you might want to run the game in widowed mode to see if that helps when quitting.
Start up Uru, click play uru, click the Graphics Tab, under the Color Depth box it would say high 32bit (maybe higher on yours) click the box that says Windowed.
Start the game and then try to X it out using 1 of the 2 methods above.

Try disabilling all the Anti-virus,spyware,firewalls,security centers, all that junk.
If you are paranoid about disabilling that stuff then just pull the jack from you computer till you are done playing Uru.
let us know if any of that works.
really rite now i am just helping you trouble-shoot all the possible problems that could be causeing the Crash-lock-restart that happens when you end the game.

One more thing.
Are you running anything else in the background when playing Uru, such as winamp, instant messaging programs, ect...?

Oh, i just had a light bulbe go off in my head..
Are you still using the same install and configurations that came with your computer when you first got it home?
I know for a fact that the way Dell installs Windows and all their backup software is fulty.
I had so much trouble with the way dell installed everything (both computers i bought from them) that i had to do a total harddrive wipe and new install of windows xp, after that everything i installed ran flawless.
I also experianced this with a dell that my inlaws bought so that would make a total of 3 Dell computers with fulty factory installs.

I am not telling you to go and wipe the HD and do a fresh install of Windblows, by all means see if you can fix the problem without resorting to that.

Kweaper may be right. Worst case you could end up having to reinstall Windows. When you said IRQ error I thought you meant an IRQ conflict. Both of your error messages are "Blue Screen Of Death" core operating system error messages, however.

Is your pc overheating? Has your fan stopped? Do you have temperature monitoring on in your BIOS? Have you installed any new hardware / software drivers recently?

Next time you have a BSOD you'll see a STOP error message, usually with a driver name and hex address. Would you please post that? It'll help to narrow down exactly what Windows is having trouble with.

I have been looking around at BSODS on windows xp and found this...

-------------------------------------------
Windows XP/2000/NT

In Windows NT, Windows 2000, and Windows XP, a blue screen of death (known as a "Stop error" in the Windows NT/2000/XP documentation) occurs when the kernel encounters an error from which it can not recover. This is usually caused by a driver that throws an unhandled exception or performs an illegal operation. The only action the user can take in this situation is to restart the computer, which results in possible data loss due to Windows not properly shutting down.

The "Stop" message contains the error code and its symbolic name (ex: 0x0000001E, KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED) along with four error-dependent values in parentheses. It displays the address where the problem occurred, along with the driver in question. Under Windows NT and 2000, the second and third sections of the screen contain information on all loaded drivers and a stack dump, respectively. The driver information is in three columns; the first lists the base address of the driver, the second lists the driver's creation date (as a Unix timestamp), and the third lists the name of the driver.
---------------------------------

I have also read that Windows XP does not have\use the original BSOD screen (BIG blue screen with white wording) that we are all use to seeing when we used windows 95,98,me, or anything else that ran under DOS.
Instead XP shows a 'mini grey boxes of death'.

Feel free to currect me if i have made any mistakes.

ok guys im back... here is the deal... i have finily found somewhat of a thing by reading this... i have been running uru in windowed mode blown up to full and everything has been fine...no probs.idk if that helps but i will run it regularly to find the stop message. and to kweaper.... no it is still a blue screen of death... just as blue as ever. unfortunatly unlike the previous versons of windows it is almost inpossable to get out of without restarting.... so no more press a button and hope it gets all better.... oh well

Uru:Live was cancelled before it's official release in February 2004.

However, this past August Cyan released Until Uru -- a fan-run version of Uru:Live. No new content, no bug fixes... basically an online version of Uru identical to what it was during the beta/Prologue phase. Cyan authenticates log-ins through a central server and fans run the shards on their own personal servers.

To access Until Uru, you need to buy a new authorization key for a one-time fee of $5.95 -- to help with server maintenance. And then download a patch that will convert Uru to Until Uru. (If you still want to be able to play the single-player game, you can make a copy of your main Uru folder, put it in a different location (a new folder named Until Uru perhaps), and then apply the Until Uru "patch" to the newer copy. Then you will have two workable versions of Uru on your computer - one single-player and one multiplayer. Not the ideal situation perhaps; but definitely workable!)

For information on the new key and the UU patch, go to http://plasma.cyanworlds.com .

We can offer you more specific, in-depth help if and when you need it. The UU patch will make your single-player game unplayable unless you decide to have more than one copy of Uru on your system.

The only practical way to get rid of the version 1.2 patch is to re-install Uru. Before re-installing, back up your /sav folder to avoid losing your game progress. See Uru: Saving Game Progress (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums?a=tpc&s=400102&f=524109302&m=261104565).

Does anyone ever go on Until Uru??! Check out the Uru - The Journey Continues - "Until Uru" Forum (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums?a=frm&s=400102&f=746109302).
