Robin Atkin Downes is really famous. He's been in plays, and shows, and has tons of voices for games like: Halo 1&2, MGS 1&2, Onimusha 1&3, PoP:WW, and more...
So he isn't just some nobody.

I'm sure he's a lovely person and all but he really really stinks in this game. I mean, I was sooooo sad about Yuri. Even my bf was sad when Yuri wouldn't return...so he could have nailed the voice to a T (which he didn't) and I'd still have been disappointed. Yuri IS my Prince of Persia. I actually have talked to him about how sad I was he wasn't returning. This new guy is a lame-O. You know You're right, I really miss yuri Lowenthal as well. I think he succeded into bringing the character into life but I still believe the new guy did a good job. However, if any of you guys speak french, you really should listen to hoe laughable the voice acting in French is, IT'S INCREDIBLY HORRIBLE. I hope in POP6, Yuri Lowenthal will return alon WITH FARAH .... please bring her BACK !! We all miss her !!

The german Prince has a new voice too. Both (SOT and WW) are well-known. The SOT prince was the german voice actor of Leo DiCaprio, the WW prince was played by Jonny Depp's german voice actor. However, I never played the german versions, I just heard it.

Well okay u guys miss Yuri and i also admit that he has a done a fantastic job in Sands of Time.But i think as far as seriousness and emotions are concerned this new Voice actor is better than Yuri.Yuri voice is fit for a Young character.Prince was only 20 years old in SOT.Robin's voice is perfectly fitting into the character

Hm, I did not like the character, Robin played in Babylon 5. But maybe it was not his fault and he had to play that guy in the way, he did.

However, his voice is cool. I did not realize who he was until I saw his Bab-5 credit and his picture.

Just wondering if he did the cinematic voice or the in game one because the cinematic one was...ok...not Yuri...but ok. The in game one was awful. Only thing decent was when he shouted to the Dahaka "Die you bastard!", but that was probably because I was getting tired and frustrated at that point in the game (only play in short spurts) so it was satisfying lol

Yeah I don't hate the new guy or anything, I just hafta agree with the whole talent show thing lol, Yuri deserves to be the dang Prince! I'm not at all surprised that he's a nice guy, you can just tell from his voice and his pictures somehow. Maybe they even modeled the Prince's personality after his a teeny bit in SoT, but who knows.

I like Yuri, but if he was given this script the dialogue would still sound stupid. Not even the best voice actor in the world could make The Prince's pompous battle catchphrases cool ("I have no time for this", "I've more important things to attend to", "You'd do better to seek sanctuary").

I think Robin did a good job with what he was given, people should cut him some slack.

And am I the only one who thought the Prince in the first game had moments where he sounded just as arrogant and pompous as in this game(ie "What better way to tame her insolence?")?

The most people wrote, he did a great job. Of course, it's not his fault to say such stupid things. And he's great in the cut scenes. And if he speaks the (*spoiler*) "bad guy" in that 2nd ending, he is a very talented voice actor.

Yes, yes, I know I was saying how badly I thought his voice acting was, but let me tell you WHY I am so anti-Rob at the moment...He's a voice-actor, no? He's done a bunch of voices!!! Why is PoP the first thing you see on his site? It's like he's trying to reinvent himself as someone who brought amazing character to PoP when in fact, he didn't. All he did was read a poorly written script and add his "mature and dark" voice. Bah! To ME, Yuri Lowenthal did sooo much with SoT. I honestly think of Yuri as the Prince and I really think he could have added a bit to WW because his voice just has amazing dimension to it. I feel a little sorry for Rob because he has people like me to put up with...LOL...but, yeah, he did the voice of WW Prince, but his website is like a complete plug for him "AS" Prince of Persia...he didn't become the character to me. Holy smokes, I forgot about the yelling palace defense guy! He would've been okay, if he hadn't screamed my ear off. I have to admit, I laughed when I almost fell off the ledge on that round thing you have to turn and move, and he went "Watch your step, for God's sake!!!" That was pretty hilarious, maybe because the poor Prince almost fell to his death, and this guy was yelling at him to watch his step.

But I'm digressing again! I wanna say welcome to the forum Erik, you're absolutely right. Robin's a talented guy, I never thought he was doing a bad job. Well actually, I wish he could have at least faked a British accent, it's not that incredibly difficult. But maybe they wanted him to sound more American? And this isn't about what accent's better or which voice actor's more talented. For me it's just like they started out with one guy who had these witty, cocky, endearing lines, and they turned it around and used a completely new guy who sounded nothing like the old Prince, in both the way he spoke and the things he said.

He had to say a lot of cheesy lines. Yuri probably wouldn't have been able to pull off saying them either, but at least there would've been that familiarity. I don't know what's worse: changing the script around to give the game a totally different atmosphere, or to change the voice actor and make him sound nothing like the original, but WW up and did both. I understand why they did it, but I can't help but feel disappointed. And that's my rant! *gets pulled off my soapbox by a cane*

No wait! Just one more thing! The Prince does sound pompous in SoT, but it's like a different kind of pompous. More of a cocky guy who's trying to convince himself that he's in charge moreso than anyone else, and in WW I thought he sorta sounded like a grumpy old man in a "get off my lawn!" kind of way. But come to think of it, if I had to fight those psycho S&M women and those skull guys that sounded like demonic chipmunks, I would've been making all kinds of obscenities up in that piece. Don't think I didn't cuss up a storm while playing that game, lol.
