So rarely do I ever get hit and only once have I been sunk by aircraft, even in TMO.
After a disappointing cruise in the Sea of Japan, chose to refit at Midway and not head home to Pearl, headed for Area 7 off Japan, usually find plenty of convoys in and around the Bungo Suido.Found a convoy...sank three ships in one attack...two Mark 14's each...all exploded, mustbe had ammo on board.
After a rather tough 16 hour evasion of DD's, headed for different part of area 7.Next day around 1300 I was cruising along submerged with periscope raised...SD radar antenna up...SD contact made, lowered atenna and scope, went to 165 feet.Back to periscope depth, raised scope to just above water...watched the plane pass on and head away then BOOOM.....an undetected plane bombed me...heavy damage, fuel tank ruptured....various other systems damaged.Sonar DESTROYED, PUMP destroyed.
Repairs made...not looking like I will have enough fuel to make it to midway...if I do, ill be on fumes for sure. The infamous evil planes of TMO got me...well almost..or maybe they did. Will have to wait until tomorrow

Lol 16 hour DD evasion? That after you loaded up Ducimus's harder escorts?

no, seas were dead calm, no waves. That was 16 hours game time....some time compression on when DD's were not right on me, but they kept making contact with me again.TMO's escorts are pretty tough in right conditions, without the harder escorts fix. Finally lost them.

Unless my sub has more holes in it than a submersible vehicle has any right to, I can hardly help myself from engaging any planes I come across when returning to base.
Headed out, no problem. I'll dive and all that, I figure we're a sub and should be sneaky hunters. But when I'm headed to port planes are just too tempting. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Hope you made it back. Been fighting Duc's planes myself. Been chasing the same convoy all weekend and probably have 20 hours game time in this one convoy of over 35 ships, battle over 3 days. They didn't bother me for 2 days and now they're keeping me under and I can hardly do an end around. Playing with the cam on, but without contacts...planes will get ya. I just crash dive and usually safe at 165 ft.
Had between 8-10 escorts on me after my first attack. I actuall watched a depth charge bounce off my sub, roll over the side and thankfully went on down...never seen that. Figured like mines they would warp through. Hate those Type D's dropping 24 charges per run..but makes good SS..
Well, wife is almost back home, so play time is limited again, but I had a marathon this weekend.
Guess you have the cams off, you need to do us some patrol stories with screenies....you're a pretty good story teller.

I assume like me it takes so long because you have contacts off? You play without contacts and don't look with the cam..it takes hours, using TC will get ya killed.
You still using your 1/2 knot...works pretty good. Least makes em stop and listen for ya.
Talk about Duc's Escorts. These suckers throw em at ya. In this one battle I bet I had 200 charges drop near me. I even went down to 500ft and was getting hurt. I'll have to work on a patrol story to bore ya later, but here's a few.
It took me forever to get away from all the dd's..Duc really did a great job with them.

MWOLFE, yea I play without cams and contacts now....just more realistic.Well i have the external cam enabled for the transit but never use it during battle, strictly enforce it.If sub had more compartments i wouldnt enable the cam, but need something to stay entertained during down time.
I do still use the 1/2 knot speed, glad you found that it works. In calm seas it seems to make the difference between life and death.
Great screen shots. The coastals and subchasers can lay down quite a barrage of charges.Being stuck inside with no outside view when under attack like that sucks, can only imagine what it was really like.
Great screen shots, love the one with all the charges.

When going back to periscope depth, always raise the SD antenna before ordering periscope depth. That way right as you reach periscope depth, your radar antenna is already on the surface long before your periscope goes up and you start sweeping.

I've rarely taken any significant damage from planes, only a few points at most, until today.
While sailing near Darwin a torpedo plane was detected. Not liking to back down from a plane and having never fought a plane in a U-Boat I decided to rumble with it.
We got him just fine on his first pass, but then I watched in horror as his wings sheared off, the fuselage racing towards us like a giant, spinning, flaming aerial torpedo. It struck hard and damage reports poured in, I was shocked to see it had punched right through my sub:

The pilot meanwhile watched, likely snickering as my deck crew scrambled in terror:

My sub was unscratched before, not so now:

We set sail for port immediately, much further aft and our props would be gone, forward and most of the crew would be dead.
