Hello,

Got a couple of questions, hope a community manager can answer those:

1)What's the game's plot in a couple of sentences? Is it just that the guy is stuck on a ship and must shoot his way out? Or will there be an elaborate plot like Resident Evil and Silent Hill? The website doesn't mention anything.

2)How long would it take the average player to finish this game? Any replayability? Mini-games, unlockables?

3)Is this a pure action game? Or is there some psychological horror? To put it simply: Is this game closer to The Suffering by Midway or Silent Hill by Konami?

4)Your previous game, The New Nightmare, had a lot of issues that prevented it from being successful, these include respawning enemies and fictional weaponry. Will Cold Fear have respawning enemies? This will be a porblem if the protagonist has limited ammo. Will there be a lot of fictional weapons?

1) Basically, you're a Coast Guardsman sent out to board a drifting Russian Whaler--what you find on board is a bunch of crazed trigger-happy Russian mercenaries...

...of course, you'll also find whatever it is that's making them so crazed and jumpy, but I don't want to give too much away. Yes, there is a bigger plot going on, that will unveil itself as you work through the game. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

2) Having not had the chance to play all the way through the game, I can't speculate on how long it is, exactly. And I don't know about unlockables. What I do know is that due to the interactivity with both the environment as well as the cool AI, there are many different ways to play through any given situation.

3) Again, I haven't played through the entire game, so while I know that there's plenty of action, I can't say how much pure psych horror there may be. I have seen some pretty freaky stuff, though!

4) Technically, it wasn't my previous game. I'm not a developer. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif But yes, the dev, Darkworks, did do Alone in the Dark 4: The New Nightmare. As far as I've seen, there aren't respawning enemies--and yes, you will have limited ammo.

No, there aren't a lot of fictional weapons. In fact, the only fictional weapon is a speargun which is loaded with chemicals that attract the enemies to wherever you lodge the spear. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Hope that answers some of your questions. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I'm just someone who's looking forward to this game, but from what I've seen:

1. "Guy is stuck on boat (and an oil rig) with some sort of monsters (I think they're humans infected with a parasite like in RE4) and must survive/find out what happened." is all I can see so far.

Ofcourse there could be lots of plot they not talking about. Oh, and the Resident Evil games don't really have elaborate plots, most of them are just:"escape from this mansion/police station/city/island full of zombies!"

2. dunno

3. It's probably more like The Suffering and the lastest Resident Evil (RE4) since they're calling it an 'action-horror' game. The Suffering had some 'creepyness' factor as well though besides the "boo!"-scares

4. So far all the weapons I've seen/heard about are real. And usually I hate constantly respawning enemies in games, hope they don't have that.

EDIThttp://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_redface.gifops. Too late!

Since this game is coming in March, how come Ubisoft has been so low key with publicity? Some gamers & game sites my interpret this as a negative effect on the game given so little press on it. No press often equates to bad press. I'm not knocking the game. In fact, I'm really looking forward to it! Just putting it out there because I'm sure many of us are also thinking along the same lines.

I don't know about that. Everything I've seen of the game so far looks great, and the dev team is known for quality work. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Hey guys, I didnt have too much of an interest in this game, because most survival games kinda suck (RE 4 is changing all that), but after seeing the short movie on "interactive enviroments" i cant get enough. It looks great.

I was wondering if this game would make use of co-op play. On a single system would be awesome, but over Xbox Live...That would set the benchmark for online play.

I got 2 questions here:

1)Will we vernture off the ship onto land or is every mission on the ship? Dont worry if you cant answer this cos it may give aaway the plot.

2) is there mulitplayer?

1) Yes you venture out of the ship and investigate an oil rig.

2) No.

I'd like to thank the community manager for answering my questions. I would really appreciate it if you can get us an estimate of the game length from the developers. Maybe in comparison to other survivial horror games (as long as RE4, Re1, SH3, etc...).

No problem, Claws. Happy to help. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif I'll see if I can dig up any info, but don't be surprised if I come up empty-handed. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

That would be cool, Billon, but I believe it's only single-player. Now, maybe they can work that in for the sequel. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I'll take a shot at a few questions:

1. Is the rocking of the ship scripted or random? I hate to think that all the rocking about is set off by trigger points and used only for cheap thrills (ie ship only rocks about when you are in a dangerious position.) Random light loss and violent movement would add a good bit of replay value to the game.

2. Are enemies randomized so that they are in different postions when we either play through the game again or play on a higher difficulty level?

3. What kind of music is in the game? Hard rock? Instramental? Techno? Or a mixture of different types. Was the music done "in house" or was it contracted out? I rather like the trailer music and hope the other music tracks use this style.

4. How does the save system work? Save anywere or checkpoints; and do we need items (like RE's ink ribbons) to save our game?

P.S. I agree with the original poster's thoughts about AITD: TTN. To be honest, that game was a complete letdown. Horrible voice acting, wacky camera angles, poor music and sound effects, weak enemies, annoying puzzles, lame boss fights, and a plot that shot the series straight to heck.

However, I will say that the trailer has releived many of my fears. The voice acting was was much improved. Graphics look to be on the level of the Metal Gear Solid 2: SOL. Enemies seems rather smart and strong (Zombies seem to behave like the ones from the dawn of the dead remake, plus that can use slashing weapons and head shots don't seem to be fatal). Over the shoulder view + straffing = happy player

Of all my complaints about "The New Nightmare", I never found one bug or glitch. Free of the AITD series and Infograms, I hope Darkworks find success and gives us a survival-horror sleeper hit the same way TECMO did with Fatal Frame.

Edit to add: I forget the greatest question of all! When will a demo be released to the various XBOX and PS2 gaming magazines?

All right, Sig, I'll take a shot at givin' you a few answers:

1) The rocking is NOT scripted! It's determined by an engine that Darkworks developed to simulate the waves during a storm. There is occasional violent movement, and you'll be able to steady yourself by grabbing on to railings.

If the boat rocks TOO much, you'll lose your footing and go sliding down the wet deck--grab something quick or you're heading overboard.

There are hooks and suspended crates on the deck, that will sway with the rocking of the ship (in all directions, not just left-to-right), so you'll have to duck, or run out of the way to avoid getting clocked. Of course, these same swinging dangers can be used against your enemies, who can get clocked. The enemies can also be swept off the deck during sever rocking--hold on tight, while your enemies slide to their doom. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

2) I don't know if the enemies' positions are randomized, but their behavior is certainly variable. This also plays into the concept of enemy interations--the enemies interact with each other. So you'll walk into a room and see a group of Russian mercenaries desperately fighting a group of mutants. You can watch as they kill each other off, or you can join in the fray. Help the Russians kill off the mutants, and the panicked mercenaries will then turn on you. Take out the Russians, and the mutants will all come for you.

3) I haven't heard the in-game music, so I don't know. What I DO know is that the soundtrack will feature a track from Marilyn Manson, as announced on the main CF site (www.coldfeargame.com (http://www.coldfeargame.com)).

4) I have yet to use the game's save system, so I can't answer that yet. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

As for your last question, yes, I believe there will be a CF demo in magazines, but I don't know the timeline on that. I suspect it may be in the April issues.

Thanks for the answers!

At first, I found the choice of Marilyn Manson as bit odd. However, now that I think about it, it makes sense. Many Console and PC games over the last few years have made use of famous Rock bands to promote their game.

'The Thing' had Saliva's "After Me"

'Operation: Flashpoint' had many tracks by the Australian rock group Seventh.

'Psy-Ops: The Mindgate conspiricy' had a custom song (With My Mind) by spider.

'Run Like Hell' had several breaking benjamin tracks.

I think Marilyn Manson's song will most liking appear in either the credits (where most of the above mentioned songs showed up) or a boss fight. I can't say I care for his music too much, still I have to admit the Survival horror genre has been rather kind to him the last few years.

As for new questions, here are two:

1. Will there be any friendly NPC (Non-Playable-Characters) that will help the hero out during the game? I don't mean cut scenes, but in game battles. Like the Barnies from Half-Life. On that same note, will there be any "escort" missions where we have to protect NPCs for set amount of time?

2. Are there multiple endings or just one? Can some characters live or die depending on player choices?

Ah, more good questions, SIG.

Unfortunately, I'll be less helpful with these...

1) I know there is at least one significant NPC, but whether she helps you directly in battles, I don't know...

2) This one, I actually have no idea--I don't know anything about the ending of the game. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I have a real quick question.

When will we starting seeing info on the characters? Such as info on them on the main site, since im interested to see who the two other people in the trailer are. More info on Tom Hansen would be good too, I don€t know much about him.

Hey Freaker, http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
we should start seeing more info on the characters hopefully in the coming week. At this point, I'm not sure how much bio info they'll reveal, as a lot of it is revealed during the course of the game's story. I'll see if I can get a bio for Tom Hansen to post up here...

- is there any playable female character like Jill Valentine from RE sereis? Anna Kamsky is just NPC? If this is the case..a little bit disappointed. If we can enjoy the entire game with Anna Kamsky, it will deliever the nice replayability. Just thought. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
