i was thinking a Multiplayer Mod (no SP)on the Eastern front would be really great, atmospheric and gritty, sort of like red orchestra? although ive never played that mod.
just a suggestion http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif
only downside to bia is the constant american vs german sides!!

Hello, Im also interested in working on a Eastern Front modification. I did Unrealscripting for Unreal Tournament 2004, for awhile. Im also an avid collector of World War II rifles. I have a M44 Mosin Nagant, and I have fired the SVT-40. Id also like to help out as an Historical Advisor to the mod. I have some web design experience as well.

It'd be wiser for SP. BIA's multiplayer just doesn't pack enough punch to make a mod for MP on it's own.
Either way it's going to be incredibly hard to make an Eastern Front mod, tactics were day and night between the ETO and Eastern Front. Not to mention Germans and Russians used nearly the same tactics, which were pretty much nothing like the Western Allied tactics. I hope you have a good AI programmer.

Same tactics? Yeah right. The Germans were way ahead of the Russians for years in tactics, maybe forever. The Russians had numbers and sheer industrial capacity and a ferocious tenacity.
What I would suggest for SP would be either A) a Stalingrad campaign for the Germans or B) a Berlin campaign for the Russkies. Well, the Germans lost both of those... but Stalingrad would be just the sort of thing... storming houses, sniping, make a tractor factory sub campaign. It would be tight.
Anything else would be very difficult, since giant armored battles on tundra would be difficult to do effectivly in BIA. You could even base it on some historical events.

I'm talking about squad level tactics. And the basic tactical premise for both was travel as a whole, not in 2 seperate teams. Once in combat the MG would deploy and cover the rest of the squad while they move out, and move with the squad, just far enough away from the rest of the group as to not cross into their line of fire.
The only real difference I've seen is that the Russians use the staggered line formation for squad and platoon travel, and while in the column formation for out of combat travel, the MG is near the front to deploy quickly.

from what i know of soviet squad tactics they used staggered lines in V formation. they could afford their losses in manpower and so were quite careless - massed assaults being a typical example. they also made good use of combined arms tactics when they could but, often, when faced by a competent german commander would suffer great losses. but, from what i've read, this seemed to be more when soviets were NOT using combined arms, ie, tank or infantry waves. tank corps moving far ahead of the rest of the army would find themselves in trouble with organised and well led german groups.
german fireteam tactics would mean the most experienced units would be used to plug a hole in a line [tho strategic it must've occurred tactically too].
the soviet infantry had most trouble digging german forces out of towns/cities and often would just move around it and leave a force behind to beseige it. house to house doctrine can't have been that much different from western armies. cept, of course, the russians had a blatant disregard for their unit losses.
