is it just a case of pressing square as quick as you can- have tried this over and over and still wont go over edge. any advice?????????????

The warrior seems to be an ongoing problem for people, unfortunately.
This thread (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/1421083117/m/6181037817) offers many different suggestions from members on button mashing tactics. You might try some of those.
The gist is: Try some of their tips for mashing as fast as possible (shaking your wrist, keeping your finger close to the controller when you press to reduce time between presses, etc) or try your best to match up your presses with the on-screen prompt.
