View Full Version : Hearing Opponent

Was playing a 2v2 skirmish with friends last night, and I can hear them talking between themselves. Is this in every 2v2 battle? and if so is there any way to stop it. Kind of sux if the other team can hear me communicating with my partner.

(cross posting from my reply to you at forums.xbox)

They must have been pressing RB for some reason ...

Actually in the beta you needed to press RB to talk to your teammate... They may have just made it so you can talk to your teammate anytime... and RB for opponent... So maybe they're just old school ?

Sorry I haven't got the game yet so I can't confirm. Check the manual.

( my reply to you over at xbox http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif)

They are pressing RB to speak with each other. The problem is when they do it I can hear them as well. I played in BETA as well and I don't remember it being that way. At least if it was, our opponents never told us they could hear us.

I don't think that teammate would be able to talk to each other without pushing a button though. It would interfere with the voice commands for each person's particular army.

Well I wish someone could shed some light on this. The book says just press RB. It does say you can mute a player but says nothing about just communicating with just your teammate.

The only thing i can think of to try is both teammates muting both of your opponets and "maybe" by doing this it will remove them from your chat channel. Normally muting someone just means you can't hear them, it doesn't necessarily mean that they can't continue to hear you though.

If you was playing with 4 friends everybody could just us the honor system and have everyone mute the players that's not on your team.

Do you guys know if this is happening in theater of war also? We were playing a private match in skirmish, and although its very annoying we are all friends so it doesn't ruin the game for us. However if it happens in TOW then that's just plain silly and makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

One workaround is to go into a private chat with your partner. Saves pressing the RB, but I haven't checked to see if it stops you from using voice commands.

But I haven't heard the other factions talking in TOW as far as I know. So I'm not sure what's up with that.

Well, if that's the case then all you need to do is both you and your teammate mute both opponents before the match starts. It says in the book you can do this by pressing RB.

I haven't played a 2 vs 2 but it seems like all you would have to do is before the match starts press RB and that should open up the player list and then from there I'm guessing you just scroll to each of your opponents and you should have an option to mute them.

Man this really needs to be fixed. Its kind of a major deal breaker.

This issue came up among our clan members and they seem to think that once the match begins opposing teams can NOT hear one another even when pushing RB. Outside of the OP has anyone else been able to hear opposing commands in 2v2?

If you CAN hear your opponent's team chat this would be just plain stupid.

But after the comm systems in Frontlines and Bad Company I suppose game designers are perfectly capable of shooting themselves in the foot.

That's pretty odd. I never hear my opponents. I can always hear my team mates with the <RB>. I wonder if the problem is the opponents are pressing <RB> and highlighting your name as well. I think that might also open the channels for both parties. Will have to test that.

Just do what I said. Before the game push RB. That should open up and highlight the the player list to the right. Then just highlight each opponenet and mute them. It says in the book you can scroll to check out info or mute.

This works but is a pain, because you all cannot view and discuss the map at the end. It needs to be fixed in the next update.

Once again just to reiterate this was done in a skirmish match. I have not tested in TOW but info there may be unreliable. I mean is my enemy really going to tell me they can hear my communication?

Muting the other players before the match begins is not a very good solution. There needs to be an actual fix. As far as Im concerned just eliminate the possibility to talk to the opponent in 2v2. That way when you push the rb, then only your partner can hear you.

OK Tried it again tonight and same result. I failed to mention the first time that when we're playing 2v2 in skirmish, they are one team and I am teamed with an AI partner. Every time either of my opponents push RB to communicate with their partner then I can hear them.

This is definitely a problem http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

Why the heck would they not set it up the same way in Skirmish? Does this mean that my friends and I will never be able to set up a match in which we cant hear each other?

Thats just plain silly.

I found that only in Skirmish private game mode you can hear opponents chatting. You need to manually mute them.

I don't think it is really that silly. This should only happen for Private Skirmish matches. We assume that in these matches you are playing with your friends (Invite only) so there is no real reason to block enemy voice chat unless you want to. You can do this with the mute functions. I always find some friendly sledging is always more fun http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

This should not happen in TOW or Open Skirmish. Let us know if it does!

Hey thanks for the post! I can understand your train of thought, but we were just looking for a way around it. If we just play open skirmish can we still invite in friends? There are 4 of us they play regularly and we want to make sure that we can play against each other but not hear the other team.

I guess my options are to play OPEN skirmish or play Private skirmish and mute each other.

Thanks again for clearing this up for me http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Actually, it is a really poor assumption (the fact that it was an assumption reveals some very poor product development processes at Ubi...why assume such a thing when you could have asked the market place?)

What's the point of developing a game with Fog of War and UAVs when your opponent can hear you say to your teamate, "I'm going to WMD delta so get ready to take it with your riflemen." Doh!

More importantly, it makes competitive play in leagues such as GB impossible (Is Ubisoft aware of MLG/GameBattles? If not, just google GameBattles.)

You need a private match function in leagues play which doesn't include the ability of the opposing team to hear your conversation. But even among friends it's more enjoyable to play the game as it's designed: with fog of war and recon activities.

The simple solution would have been two chat buttons: one to transmit to teamates only and the other to transmit to all players.

More eloquently said than I could have ever done. This was our exact question. Why change the entire dynamic of the game? My friends and I aren't their to have a nice chat. We want two of us to be able to pit our skills against the other two so we may become better at the game and develop skills needed to compete in the TOW matches.

I STILL think it's kind of silly. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif

I would agree with MB on the above statement UBI. Could we get this with the next update? If not atleast allow the "mute" to be taken off after the match has ended so we can "chat" with our friends and servey the damage on the map at the same time. Thanks for posting though.
