Hi everyone - I need to bring something to the attention of people who are creating maps for Far Cry. The inclusion of copyrighted materials in Far Cry maps could be considered a violation of laws in some countries, including the US of A. This includes MP3 files from commercial artists and some graphical images.
In order to prevent being put at risk of some unwanted attention, I strongly recommend map designers avoid the use of copyrighted materials in their map creations. We will have to refuse to host any maps on Far Cry Community Maps (http://www.farcry-maps.com) that include copyrighted materials.
I'm not happy about this, but I don't see an alternative.

Smart move, Slug. With the mod teams that have been served with cease and desist letters over intellectual capital, folks need to be careful that what they have included in a map or mod is either public domain materials, or created by themselves.

I suppose it should. However, while I can listen to a song that is included in a map and maybe recognize it as a commercial work that is copyrighted, I don't think I could do that with a texture.
Use some common sense is the best advice. If it was your copyrighted material that someone else was using without permission, how would you want to handle it?

It would definitely be a nice gesture to speak to the creator of the texture before using it in your own maps. That's my opinion though.

Meh ... I must have missed that one. There might be others ... with 230 maps, I just don't have time to inspect every one for copyrighted materials. Since you've pointed this out regarding Matto, I will take a look specifically at it and see what's up.
Like I've said before, this is not something I'm happy about, but unfortunately just about any hosting provider has the same acceptible use policy that covers this particular issue.
