Just installed everything but no chance to try it yet due to the hour. I did print out that map you included - that is an excellent idea and has been executed well, too.
Just looking at the lovely BOB skins is enough to give me tingles.

I should get out more.

Just played the first 3 missions. It has a nice feel to it and lots of detail - ships, buildings, port and radar facilities - so it has a sense of being a real place.
I just tried no3 on perfect settings at 1260x960 with my P4 3.2GHZ, 1GIG RAM and FX5900XT and it ran smooth enough to play. It was a bit slower than usual but nothing to worry about.
Fly_Zo, your system MUST be having some probs, man. BTW - if I ever get to Zagreb I'll definitely accept your offer.

wonderfull campaign you build there cobra, even tho ive only shot 3 planes down http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

found one pretty large error:

In mission 6, you are flying a spitfire, and not a hurricane like you should

Cobra427so
02-24-2006, 04:54 PM
Thanks for finding that...

I've looked over the mission and now placed all the Spit flights in the 2nd Squadron... FMB is supposed to put you in the 1st Flight of the 1st Squadron... for whatever reason you end up in the 3rd Flight 1st Squadron.

FMB is puzzling sometimes. It's now corrected.

The link below is to a zip with a new .mis file for mission #6. Copy the file into your BOB Hurricane Season file - C:\IL2 FB\Missions\Campaign\GB\BattleofBritain

When you are in a campaign, your position in the group is determined by your rank, not by which plane you select as player in the FMB.

It is explained in detail in this thread (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/50910533/m/4561048833)

You have already found the solution. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

SOOOOOOOOOO,There I was, out on a pleasant evening flight, looking over the departire ofan RAF Dakota & the arrival of a Catalina, when horror of horrors the Dakota goes slamming into a hillside( granted a rather tall hill for the coast of England...) The AI pilot took himself & the entire crew with him...What happened ???VFR rules were still very much in effect,it was abeautiful evening with only a few scattered clouds. All I know is there will be much mourning in the AI crew's parent's homes over this needless loss of AI life...
http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gifOh yeah I lost a wing in later combat with marauding Messerschmitts but not before my flight took out a lone Heinkle that was obviously lost over the Channel.... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Hi YAKMAN,

Yes, Ian Boys did the original skin, I used it as a basis and did alot of work on it to get it where I wanted it. I gave them credit though because their base skin was tremendously helpful and cut my skin development easily in half for that plane. I havn't posted the layered template anywhere, but I suppose I could... you'd have to promise not to remove their tag though. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Bird_Brain, yeah after some trial and error I had figured it out, but I missed that one mission where I'd placed the Spit flight first... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif I re-numbered the Spit flight to fall as a later flight and it cleared it up.

Kapteeni, thanks for the compliments, I really appreciate it, and all the folks here who have found it fun and engaging, posting their positive feedback. Feedback helps us be better mission developers.

And like Mr Dietz found, sometimes unpredictable things happen, I've flown that mission a ton of times and the transport plane never crashed into the hill... lol. Sometimes I think the limitations of the AI make them more believeable as humans, they make mistakes, they're not perfect.

My development of the KUBAN map for the second half of the BOB campaign is almost done... your pilot will be flying from Biggin Hill, in the region streching from London to Dover!

Just finished it, Full real (cept for externals, but i dont use magic F6 mode, i only use F2 for screenshots), all 20 missions, 17 kills (crash landed in base 3 times, once flipped my plane over)

Best offline campaign i have ever had the pleasure to download, oftentimes they concentrate so much on the history of it all that they forget ot make it fun...

I like a storyline with my campaign, i like to hear about the Respected commander Sir Archibald, with his everpresent cup of tea and clipboard, about the girl i come home to, about the friend johnny, always ready with a smoke and a wisecrack...

Keep it up sir, and have you made any other campaigns like this one?

(PS. BOOO! i dont wanna fly spitfires! *kicking and screaming*)

Cobra427so
03-16-2006, 12:06 PM
Thank you Reaperman, for that extremely high praise! The storyline will continue in the same fashion... you will be the same person, some chatacters will remain and there will be some new ones. You will be assigned to a Spit squadron (sorry) but due to the shortage of aircraft, there may be times when you will be flying a good old Hurri, (yay).

After much studying of other mission and campaign builders work, I decided to give it a try, using a combination of all their neatest tricks and a few new ones I devised. This was my first project. I'm hoping the second half will be as well recieved.

Even though I've said this in another thread of your's, I still think this is up with E.1's Battle over Britain m8 http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif It was one of those campaigns that you can't wait to go back to and play again http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif For my own amusement I changed the plane set around: D-Day kinda thing. You fly a 109 instead of a Hurri, B-17's for the 111's, Mossies for the 87 etc...quite fun http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Okay here goes this is a really really well made campaign. I, to be honest, very rarely play campaigns, but after seeing the feedback yours was generating decided to install and try it out.

Not being used to campaigns, the first mission was a little odd, no guns and just a quiet jaunt around the countryside, but then along cam mission two.....woooohoo!

I played this (and just finished it) over and over and then came the realisation that, if this was real, then I as one of the fighter boys would have had a damn hard time of it!

I can't believe how week the Hurricane is when it takes few hits to the engine, and how much ammo is needed to get a Stuka smoking.

Mission two, as this is as far as I am so-far, really, really makes me feel like I'm up against the odds as the swarm of Stuka head towards 'my' boats and I have to protect them (which I invariably fail to do against such a swarm).

My only disappointment is the lack of ammo....so many planes to attack, but every hit must be decisive.

Anyway, to conclude, at this moment I am hooked, and will be scouring the MBF to get some more campaigns.

Really very well done! MP.

The Jerries are Bl__dy good in this campaign! Each mission I stagger back to my field my pour Hurri full of wholes or I get to take a swim in the Channel .So far the Air-Sea Rescue boys are **** their job,apparently...

this is not a criticism just an obvservation of the map but Tangmere and Ford are in between brighton and portsmouth(east of portsmouth)

and not to the west of portsmouth(basically where west hampnett is(this was a sattelite of Tangmere and only five miles down the road(which is now goodwood aerodrome)

im sure you would want this accuracy with all the effort that you have put into the campaign

cheers Mothyp (a Tangmere pilot)

if this has already been brought up then apologies

Hi Mothyp,

Great photos!

Yes, someone mentioned it, (with different airfields though), that the map is not quite accurate... But I knew that going in, that there would be people with first hand knowledge of the real locales, that the map wasn't quite right... I knew I was going to have to make accuracy sacrifices for the playability. The Kuban map (Russia, I think) was the closest fascimilie we have to use. Tangmere was a large Sector Airfield, not just a fighter field and I had to use the base I chose because I needed a larger field and that was the only one that fit the bill necessity-wise. I knew Tangmere was going to end up on the wrong side of Portsmouth, but what else could I do... we didn't have a proper British coastline.

The challenge, (and the fun) was, to create a world that was believable for most, and put them there... with a storyline and locations that were, with a little imagination, the real thing.

But see, now you've done it... you've ruined the whole mirage for everybody... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

Just kidding, http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif But did you fly it? Did you have fun? Because that's what counts most!

Cobra427

This is a really basic question which I ask with my tin helmet firmly strapped on but here goes.... why don't campaign/mission builders change the place names on the maps to give a more realistic feel.Is it impossible to edit or is there a legal aspect to it.

Cobra427so
04-19-2006, 01:37 PM
Hi Wigwham,

The names on the maps are hard-coded in the game, no way to reach them. That's also why we havn't seen any community-built maps.

That's kinda why I created a printable map for my campaign, I hoped it would help... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

I know, RL has been busy, chiseling time away from my mission building, but we're getting close. Mission 19 is in the can, I'll probably be doing 22-23.

Mom & Dad have been here visiting for about 3 weeks now, they're leaving in 3 days - I'll be back to the mission builder that evening.

I've also been working hard to come up with new things, either as missions, or in the missions to keep it all fresh - don't want anyone getting bored after all this work! LOL.
