I have been playing this since it came out but I've been having a problem where the game crashes back to the desktop at random intervals and I was wondering if anyone had any ideas how I might be able to fix it. Would like to play at least 1 mission all the way through without it crashing. :P
System config:
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Extreme CPU Q9300 @ 2.53GHZ
8 gigs of RAM
Dual ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4870 videocards (I have disabled Crossfire)
All drivers up to date.

That spec is more than enough for the game, noting odd about that. Can't really help. Just as a test, give it a go in window mode...

I have exactly the same problem. Doesn't matter if i'm playing campaign, skirmish or multiplayer, I get different kinds of errors.
One that is coming back frequently is Runtime Error! But i also had fatal errors and today i got this one during a campaign: Exception in file FN at line 68: Out of Memory!
I'm very sure that my computer isn't out of memory, cause my specs are way better than the minimum required for this game. Next to that i have put all my settings on low just to be sure.
I also upgraded my DirectX to the latest version, but this didn't solve anything. I hope somebody has a solution, since i really like this game, and want to play it more!
Greetings, Bungs

I too have same problem, in campaign mode runtime errors or game crashes and also gets stuck with ubi unable to save games online.
my computer is top of line and plays all games on high settings.
PS nice game, but with all new games there is bugs to be ironed out just make it soon plz.
with thx

In my opinion, thats why you have beta versions...to iron out those bugs...

I haven't been able to compete even one game (apart from the first campaigns). That is not something that would 'slip through' during a beta version i would think...

Well playing the game in windowed mode does help a bit though the only way I can delay the inevitable crash to desktop is by rotating my camera to where I can only see my territory, it'll still eventually crash but i can get a few extra minutes of game time in. Though by playing like this it makes it impossible to play multiplayer. :P I kind of wonder if the problem has to do with windows 7.

lol... i was actually wondering if windows 7 would solve it http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

My brother is playing it windows 7, and that works fine for him. I'm using Vista and it crashes... So don't worry about the windows 7 version. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Are you overclocked? If you are, stop it.

nah i'm not overclocked its set at default factory settings, just in case i put the multiplier down to the lowest setting which was just 1 option lower, but it still crashes to desktop

I'm not overlocked either... not even close...

Man I just love this. Yesterday I put in a ticket to support to try and see if they could help me and the only response I got was that the game doesn't support laptops. Now typically I wouldn't have a problem but my laptop is a heck of alot better than most desktops, alot higher than the bloody system requirements for the game. :P

I have the same problem. Worse. random crashes with auto pc reboot and windows running chkdsk. Ubi support so far is useless in trying to fix it. Must be a hardware issue, have already done much cleaning up of my system but the problem persists. Oddly enough only in singleplayer mode, never yet in multiplayer...

Clearly we've all just wasted $50.
It's a real shame - all the previous versions of settlers used to be my favourite games.
I guess I'll just have to delete it until they produce a real working version.
Scam really.

Yes, this game seems more like a scam with this crashing issue. It actually locks my computer up. I have to force it to shutdown to do anything more on my computer. I'm playing campaign mode also and at the Fifth battle scene. Seems to lock up on queue every time. I should demand a refund for this broke game.
