Hey, I was thinking about grabbing this game (cause it looks amazingly fun) But I am not sure if it will run decent with my, kinda out of date cpu.
Windows XP
AMD Athlon 64 3800+ 2.41 GHz
2GB of RAM
HIS IceQ4 RADEON HD 4850 512MD-256bit GDDR3
I am sure my cpu will bottleneck more then I would like. But I am wondering if I will get at least 25 to 30 frams constant or not.
Thanks in advance.

I doubt you'll be able to run the game on High settings without it struggling. You're CPU is definitely going to bottleneck your video card.
The game's minimum CPU requirement for an AMD brand is the Athlon 64 3500+

Yea, I was sure it would. I am just confused kinda. Cause in Crysis, I can run it on all max or all mid graphics, and I get the same frams =/
confuses me a bit. I was just wondering if I can get playable frams for Far Cry at least.

That sounds similar to my experience in Crysis, I upgraded my graphics card without updating the rest of my computer, and I only saw improvement in certain areas of the game. Obviously it had to be the areas that didn't require as much CPU power.
I new after that I was going to need an entirely new rig if I wanted to make use of my video card.

Yea, I got this great graphics card but not enough gas to show its true potential! -_- I plan on updating soon though. Then I will be enjoying Far Cry 2 alot http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
But yea, I figure if in Crysis I can get 15 to 30 frams, I am hoping in Far Cry I can get 20-30 or so.

The reason you seen no change in FPS when lower settings is due to CPU bottlenecking.
The GPu card you have is way over kill for the tiny cpu your using to try and push information along that the gpu is throwing at it.
y6ur system is like taking an 99 year old man with lung cancer to an amusement park in 100 degree weather and your 12 years old full of energy http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif.
I do feel your pain as i have an AMD athalon x2 4400+ being bottlenecked against my 9800GT but not too bad as im still able to push out a nice 30-40FPS on high in FC2 and 20-30 on high in crysis.
I love games like COD as they are more GPU bound and rarely uses the CPU at all leaving me with 120+FPS full maxed out graphics http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif. Now days with physics games are beginning to be half and half CPU/GPU.

Yea, I really wish I had the money for new gear. I need a new everything almost. Motherboard is crap, I have an 80 gig HD still -_- which I don't think you can even buy one that small anymore lol.
But yea, Crysis is overkill on system it seems. They could have made it much more playable for others with lower end systems.
It won't stop me from getting Far Cry 2 though http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif I am sure if I can run Crysis almost at playable frams, FC2 will be playable at least. even if its not high settings. Graphics are not everything http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
Thanks for the info guys!
