Hi guyz,

I don't know why it is that I forget things when it comes to computers. I do something many times but if I don't do it for a year I seem to forget.

My friend has a laptop she wants fixed up, software speaking. The set up now is the common silliness of no partitions and therefore everything on c:.

I like to partition the hd with c: only for the OS, d: stickly for program installations, and e: for saving files and docs.

Here's my problem, I cannot remember how to get into dos at the start up. Now that I think of it, I cannot remember what the command was for running the partitioning program in dos. I installed xp and when I get the choice to create and delete partitions a message comes up telling me that the task cannot be completed since temp files are stored on the partition.

I decided to try Partition Magic. It's a great and easy way to partition your drive but once I had made all the necessary steps and parameters, I got the message that it was only a trial version.

Please remind me of how to partition the drive so I can have three partitions.

Thx in advance,
Fritz

Boot off the XP CD, delete existing partitions then create initial partition of your desired size.

This is destructive though.

Alternative:

http://partitionlogic.org.uk/index.html

Never tried it personally.

Or:
Buy a licence for Partition magic or Acronis (http://www.acronis.com)
