I've heard news lately on Kotaku (the link can be found here (http://kotaku.com/391086/shenmue-on-wii-anyone-anyone)) that the first and second game will be ported over to the Wii console. It sounds prettty intriguing, for the games' storylines seem much better than that of the many open-ended games out today. Also, I've never played these games, and I would certainly hope to do that, for they brought forth things like arcade machines, Free Battle (using a combination of buttons to fight opponents, much like in Virtua Fighter), Quick Time Events (interactive cut scenes), Free Quest Mode (allows to move about and talk with others throughout the world, ask people questions relating to the plot, ask about money, or even do part-time jobs), a magic weather system (changing weather over time), and a couple of other things before that of GTA III, so it'd be exciting to check two of the games that actually helped lend a hand to improving non-linear gameplay. If all goes well, maybe we'll see Shenmue 3 coming out in the future. Then I'm sure that Shenmue 3 will be the first game to surpass GTA IV, for its predecessors also contributed a lot to free-roam gameplay. It is basically the master of on-foot, for this game franchise doesn't allow you to drive at all in the game (or maybe rarely) and a lot more of its freedom is based on the on-foot than that of the GTA games. It's just that this franchise hasn't garnered as much popularity, so many just go with the GTA franchise and regard that as the king of on-foot. If Shenmue 3 was made, I'm sure that it'd blow any or all of the GTA games out of the way.

This will probably be the last time that I'll decide to create a topic (Driver in general or off-topic), so I hope that you guys will find some time to discuss these games, as opposed to us always thinking of the GTA franchise. Now we can look at the Shenmue franchise and even compare it to the Driver franchise.

Here are several screens that show of some portions of both Shenmue 1 & 2.

This topic was created for the purpose of discussing the Shenmue games. If you don't like discussing this topic, simply ignore it (don't troll around!), but if you know this franchise and would like to have some word with me and anyone else in this topic around the Shenmue games, then I find it acceptable.
