this is not a site link I just want to discuss the announcement trailer.
So fist you see the Ubisoft logo and I think "Wonder if they'll overcome their last RTS failier (endwar). And then there's the scene of those guys sitting at a desk playing the world's most advanced board game. (What, are computers too impersonal for this game?)
So one guy starts sending minescule forces to take the beach. I personaly though that was stupid, why send such miniscule forces into an enemy clearly expecting them with no apparent way of fighting back? and of course, they're slaughtered.
Then the other guy starts calling in tanks. (Why? This force is the same size as the last, let your guns handle it!)
Now after two failed attempts the first guy finally seems to stop taking stupid pills and attack with his entire remaining force. (Which is so small I'm amazed he didn't retreat like any other stratagist.
So we know the drill, the ships attack, they get slaoughterd guy #2 looks smugly at his enemy. Then FINALLY one makes it to the shore. Well woop-de F*ck'in due you got one ship in, now do you expect them to-
The door opens and the manikins fall out.
1st reaction: W.T.F? Did your soldiers just take sienide pills?
2nd reaction: So you just spent the last 2 minutes sending wave after wave of lifless manikins into battle? Whats the point? now you have no more-OMG!
So ya, the huge fleet comes in and obliterates the enemy army. Thus proving that the Guy #1 isn't an idiot. He was trying to draw his enemy out so his bombers could attack. (Were's guy #2's AA batteries? Was he really so stupid as to leave them out?
Finally we get the name: R.U.S.E. WHAT THE HECK DOES THAT STAND FOR?
Is it:
Recon
Useless due to
Stupid
Exploration (scouting)
Or
Really
Useful
Stategic
Engineering
?
Still, this trailer shows that R.U.S.E Has potentail, unlocking some clever new strategies that, if Ubi does it's job well this time, will create a game to match competitors like C.O.C.
By the way, doesn't it seem like the whole zooming angle is stolen directly from sins of a solar empire? It seems like Ubies a bit of a copycat (Caugh-World in Conflict-Caugh)

Yeah, I'm all in favor of the Mega-Zoom. I was also blown away by the mannequin idea (Kinda like those blow up paratrooper dummies in the Longest Day eh?). Actually, think of it like Sup-Com. You got the overlay on one side (If you have a dual screen Monitor) and then the section you are paying attention to on the other monitor. If only everyone had dual-screens. Then it could be cool.

looks like a sweet game. A WWII version of ENDWAR, but way more improved.

hahahaha.
It is obvious that the OP blatantly didn't understand what was going on in the trailer. No doubt he'll be buying the console version.
These "stupid" tactics were ruses you ignorant clown. Those are mannequins in the ships, duh.

yea you have to understand that from that trailer you see truthfully an excellent ruse you see send small scouting and mannequin ruses that draw out what he has on those beaches then like a good commander seeing wheres what he brings in his main force for decisive strikes and now sees the enemies weakness, seriously if one cant understand this the game is not for you.
i wish that the boardgames/ surface aspect were real and apart of it or something i mean seriously how killer cool would that be

Yes, the OP was wrong. But, I'm a huge RTS vet., and I'm buying the console version for the Live (Xbox 360).

Ruse is a word with a definition: A crafty stratagem; a subterfuge.
What is this game all about? Subterfuge.
So i wonder why they call the game RUSE? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif . (They will also come up with an acronym - but they probably dont know what it is themselves yet).
As for the trailer:
I thought it was fantastic (and using MS Surface was a great idea - hope it becomes a reality over the next decade). The guy sends over fake units to distract the other guy from his bombers and destroyer naval units. Its very simple, but shows off the game concept in the best possible way.
Many different tactics like this were used in WW2 - the main one being the british building wooden tanks and bases to distract the germans from the main invasion force.
I dont see what your problem with the trailer is. Its simple, gets the game concept across perfectly and is a very good launch trailer.
and if i had 13k to spend, and this game was MS Surface compatible, I'd be buying a new table for my living room tomorrow !! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

RTS games are way better on the PC. Out of all the game genres FPS and RTS are best on the PC.
If you are an RTS vet, why get the xbox version???

First of all a big 'congratulations' to whoever came up with this trailer. It's good. As in: good. I'm not easily impressed, but... this one's good.
Don't know about the game though, WOII-Strategy tends to get a bit 'complicated' where it comes to control.

Guys... I understand tactics and stratagy intamatly. I was commenting on the trailer AS I VIEWED IT! I didn't no anything about the gameplay features-I just figured R.U.S.E was a clever name with no stratigic importance. (I had just seen a link on gamespot.)
I acually play more RTS than FPS, I dont even own halo, much less played it! And I just got call of duty 4 for Easter '09.
And Once the trailer I dismantled the stratagy in a matter of 5 seconds, it was really oviouse-useing the ships as bait to draw out the tanks and keeping his real landing force off-map. It's just that I didn't know about the ruse factor being a feature until the manicins fell out. (Don't forget I showed you my interpritation of the first guy's tactics in the last paragraph.
Agian WHERE IS HIS FLAK!!! Only a complete fool would leave that obviouse weakness open to attack! It's like If hitler's generals decided not to fortify omah beach and instead use the money for gambling!
By the way how many of you own SupCom forged allience? (I got both) How do you go online? My account wont work.

I think thats the point of the trailer, showing the difference between a RTS player and a FPS player. The FPS player (the defender) is thinking big guns beat everything and generally not thinking about other defences. While the RTS player is using the Ruses to find a weakness and then exploits it.

I see your point, but it's still kinda stupid of him.
Notice that I dont capitolize hitler's name out of disrespect for him. YOU TOO jOSEPH sTALIN! You and your communist work camps and secret police and fear tactics! You may have been on the allies side but you still killed thousands of innocent workers who only wanted to keep their private farms! Stupid 5-year plans...
