Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood free DLC #2 uncloaking in January
By Tom Magrino, GameSpotPosted Dec 14, 2010 4:57 pm PT
Ubisoft's Animus Project Update 2.0 updates Renaissance-set stealth action adventure with new multiplayer map, mode next month on PS3, 360.
Today, Ubisoft released the first batch of multiplatform downloadable content for Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, its well-regarded Renaissance-set action adventure featuring the continuing adventures of stealth killer Ezio. Titled Animus Project Update 1.0, the multiplayer-centric free DLC includes the Advanced Alliance mode, as well as the Mont Saint-Michel map--a rocky, tidal landscape with narrow streets, multilevel architecture, and a bell tower.
To accompany that release, Ubisoft announced Brotherhood's second free add-on, Animus Project Update 2.0. Available in January for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, the gratis goods will also focus exclusively on multiplayer, bringing with it a new game type and map.
Mont Saint-Michel opens for business today.
The new game mode is called Chest Capture and sees players splitting up into two teams of three players each, with the goal of defending or capturing boxes of bounty. Update 2.0's map will be set in Pienza, a small town in Tuscany that promises ample areas for players to stalk and slaughter one another.
The add-on also includes the "Templar Score" feature, which Ubisoft described as a way to "reward diligent work by Abstergo recruits."

The new game mode sounds good, a bit like gold rush in BFBC. I wonder how the templar scoring will work?? Said about teamwork, but will have to wait and see!

Really?
The new game mode has fixed points to defend. If you're a runner, you're likely to go down FAST if it's done well.
And the new map sounds like it's going to be a stealth-centric one full of open spaces and few rooftops to pounce from or run and jump between.
Wait and see, shall we?

While I am glad that Ubisoft is generously giving us maps, I'm not happy that this has been announced before, say the next patch. Something that could truly make the game better rather than something that, to me, translates to something along the lines of appeasement rather than real progress.
It just seems to me that instead of giving us a refined matchmaking system and doing some re-evaluations based upon observations that the community has brought up, they're banking on something that COULD be new and exciting.
I'd much rather pay for a map pack and have them give us bugfixes, better matchmaking, and substantial patches rather than feed us something brand new to divert our attention away from fundamental flaws of the games inner-workings.

This takes way more time than you would think and i bet my bottem dollor that the map was already made or neally complete when the game was released.

Yes, I understand this. Though the fact they have given us a patch before makes me think otherwise. I mean, Advanced Alliance and this new game mode with BOTH maps that are being released were probably already on the disc if not, as you said, nearly complete already.
Though, in retrospect, if this was the case then why do one patch then start giving away all this free DLC? I mean, not to go out-of-genre or anything, but that's what Mythic did with Warhammer Online. They gave people a bunch of extra "Content" that had been stored away in the games' databanks that was unfinished after the beta while not focusing on the fundamentals of the game. Now look at it, the game is one of the least-subscribed MMO's to date.
Again, I don't mean to venture out-of-genre to fetch an example but it troubles me that I've seen this before.
I'm not doubting Ubisoft's ability to make their game great. I love the multiplayer in AC: B but like I said personally I would much rather wait until the core problems in multiplayer are fixed, or are at least on the way to be being fixed, and have them report about those things before throwing us maps and game modes to apparently divert attention away from key elements of multiplayer that make an individuals' gaming experience less-than-optimal.
I mean, in attempting to fix these problems they could potentially make the game modes and maps better than they would have been when they're released. I mean, I'd pay five or ten bucks for four new maps and a few game modes. Hell, they could patch the game modes in and make us pay for the maps! I'd be cool with that, since at the end of the day I know I'd be making a good investment since the game itself is solid.
EDIT: I DO like the idea of Templar Scoring, though. Could be a good way to gauge who is good at the game other than leaderboards and give us incentive to keep playing after level 50.

They probably worked on the first patch concurrently with the first DLC.
I'm actually fine with them working on DLC while they're also working on patching the issues in the game - which we've so far seen ample evidence of.
They're almost certainly (given the amount of feedback about it) working on another patch as we speak, in addition to the future DLC they're developing.
I don't see the problem, personally. They are at least trying to address our concerns, while also adding new content to the game, and doing so at no extra cost.
New extras without spending money are fine by me, as long as the real issues aren't forgotten.
If I stop seeing evidence that they're working on the problems, then I'll call the DLC packs a distraction from the problem. At this stage, I don't think that's what's happening.
EDIT: Don't know what Templar Scoring is yet, but hoping it's a non-XP-based measure of player skill.

Yet another game mode. This will be the 4th game mode (not including advanced versions)... I want anther profile slot. There has been some talk about expanding the level cap to add new abilites, perks, gear, colors, etc. I want it just for a new slot.

Excellent.
Of course the DLC content release schedule was predetermined in order to maintain player attention as months progress. I don't think they are trying to appease anybody but rather sticking to their strategy designed to maintain player interest.
It does sound like a familiar game mode but considering the uniqueness of the initial multiplayer game type isn't it a little demanding to expect every new piece to be unseen. In fact a lot of people are asking for things found in other games so I think poor old Ubi can't win no matter what they do. They have a lot of ideas given to them from these forums about modes they may not have thought of, possibly we will see them later on but it's a guarantee that right now they need to maintain the course they laid out to their shareholders and focus their extra time on fixing malfunctions although the amount of time they must have to spend weeding out REAL issues vs frustrated player ignorance must be astronomical right now.
DefiantDiety
12-15-2010, 12:18 PM
I brought up plenty of REAL issues. Player ignorance are issues such as calling the multiplayer unbalanced and cheap, etc. Also, I feel that Ubisoft is already on top because the experience in the multiplayer is so unique. Like I said on another topic, there really isn't anything like this.
Though I can see where you're coming from, sandman. I suppose keeping widespread interest is very crucial for a game like this since it is already very unique and most casual players would be very intimidated by it and the skill levels that are already developing within the community. I mean, I'm not going to stop playing anytime soon but if they keep feeding us "New and cool" DLC's without addressing the flawed aspects of multiplayer already is when I'll start really complaining.

Of course. They're a big multinational company, even if they say so they don't really listen to their community, they only really care about the money.

I'm not saying there aren't real issues but confirming them is work in itself, there's too much complaining about minor mechanical 'difficulties'.
Discrepancy complaints need to be unbiased, not rage or frustration fueled and clear and verifiable. If it's easier for the developers to confirm it's easier for a fix.
I don't feel there are any flaws so great that I would stop playing this game anytime soon, matchmaking seems like a serious one for most but GOW2 had a similar system designed to mix the pool up a lot by selecting matches for people, after a year or so and the community dwindling they converted to Player made and controlled lobbies.I think Parent companies feel the need to control the gaming community for a time so they can ensure the game is played the way they designed, promoting the type of community they feel is more conducive to selling more of their product.
Maybe not though and they just screwed the pooch on some things.

Everyone here is so god damn greedy. If a free DLC came out for black ops or MW2(when it was still big) people would have such high outlooks on the companies!
Why aren't people saying that about Ubi? Sure there are problems with multiplayer. Get over it. You're getting NEW content ABSOLUTELY FREE. That's insane. Thanks very much Ubi. I really ejoy the fact that this game is so diverse online with such new variety and ontop of that a company that actually brings out new content without a price tag.
I'm sure they will get a new patch coming soon to fix the matchmaking issues. Till then we can atleast relax and know Ubi is doing something instead of nothing; the maps will be nothing short of amazing!

Hey, its free, its a new mode, not just advanced, and its coming out pretty quick...
This will conflict with match making because adding a new mode will do that, but I don't mind waiting...
Its not often you get free and new, now I'm not saying it'll be the best thing ever, and in fact I'm not really expecting much, cause free always has a catch... but seeing these things so far gives me promise for when they release DLC that we pay for, it'll be worth it, and I'll wait...

Agree with just about everyone here. "Free and new!" I get a new map that isn't a remade version of an old one and a new game mode that isn't a remade version of an old? And it's free? THANK YOU!!!!!
Who knows about the new mode. Maybe it'll cater to free runners for quick rounds or maybe they'll throw in a wrench and make you be Incognito to capture an opposing chest? Either way, I'd play it!
