Since the game is not out for PC, I'm assuming you have an illegal copy.

Well, some people are saying that the game's out on some places but since the OP has not responded... I do believe that "PWNED" is as good a word as any! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Although... the question is still a valid one! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

ok.. I have played it(and playing since i know the managers) at a gamestop lan party.. (they have the boxes too...) and neither the wired or wireless controllers will work.. (all proper drivers.. etc.. ) it will not turn the option to "on" .. So can we please get a response PLEASE? although the pinnaccle game control profiler is awesome... http://www.pinnaclegameprofiler.com/ it makes any game play just like the console..(cod rocks with this..) l8 but i would like to use the built in version (since there is no official profile built yet for vegas 2 (you have to use the vegas 1 profile and tweak it..) anyhoo.. help!

You have no Idea How anyone got their copy of Rb6v2! there are many ways someone could.. I got mine this morning! and played it as early as last week at gamestop! The point was.. why won't the 360 controller work? not " please assume/call me a theif.. " not cool. (if anyone saw this post before i apologize to mr hanky..it was a terrible mix-up and has been remedied.)

It's true that some stores are selling it early.

I think it was just deleted because it pointed out a flaw in a mod's post.

no, i edited the previous post.. because there where unsubstantiated issues.. that should have been taken care of differently.. again i apologize (for that) but just had a problem with pple being assumed to be theives because they either have or have played the pc version early. ( and yes i am aware there is a leaked version out there.. but you can't go around accusing people without proof!) anyhoo let's get back on topic.. any word on the 360 controller support?

I don't mean for the game. I don't have the PC version nor did I ever get it working for the first game. He made a comment about the controller working for PC, not the game, just generally.

Why would you want to use a console controller to scan areas (turn) when you can just do it faster with a mouse. Just picking up the mouse and dropping it is quite faster. It's instant, jumping your vantage point that quick and more realistic than console controllers.

It depends on the game also. Some of the games programmed to use the 360 controller as an alternate control scheme add auto-aim when using the controller. The best example I can think of is Shadowrun. I never played it on PC myself, but I remember reading alot of people saying that it had a pretty strong auto-aim when using the controller.

Yes the 360 wireless gaming receiver was the best invention ever. Works great for GFWL games and most pc games.

Now back to issue on hand, Is there a fix for this? Why is the option even there if it doesnt even work.

snoopyau

I suggest not using a joypad controller
on any FPS instead learn how to play
correctly with the BETTER control method
which is KEYBOARD AND MOUSE

Using a controller on an FPS is an
indication of low skill gamers
that cant do multiple things at once

I called Ubi yesterday and I followed their BS steps of reinstalling the xbox drivers and reinstalling the game after booting up with all startup apps disabled. This naturally didn't work so I called back and was told by someone else that because the PC version is a port of the Xbox version they forgot all about the usb connector that the xbox version doesn't use and this may be the problem. He said there were other gamepad issues which I really didn't care about since it sounds like we need a patch to fix this but they are working on it.

oke thanks keep us informed, i always play pc games with the 360 joypad, it is much better than the mouse thing. And i use xpadder for it.
In rainbow six vegas 1 you could only use the wired one not the wireless(wich i have). I the .ini file it says product id =0 en vendor id=0. You need these for input but i don't know the id's for the wireless pad.

I am very uninpressed with the bugs in this game on the cover it says xbox 360 controller will work yet I have had no luck with being able to turn it on in options.
After contacting support I waited more then 3 days then the only sugestion in there email was have you installed the driver.
After coming to this foram I can see i am not the only one having this problem.
SO WHATS GOING ON UBI SOFT
HELP ME PLEASE.
Other problems I have had with this game was a blue screen of death while loading and then I reloaded and my ranking was gone NOT HAPPY JAN
In the manual it tells me that i can take a pic of my own face and put it on the solder yet there is no expanation on how to do this.
SO THE MAIN REASON i BOUGHT THIS GAME WAS FOR THE CUSTOM FACES AND THAT I CAN USE MY XBOX CONTROLLER AND I CAN'T DO ANY OF THESE THINGS
and the support centre has no info on these probs but coming to the foram I can see most people are having the same problem.

just a quick thing to the mouse/kbd VS game pad people:
It is not a question of which is better. it's not the kind of discussion.
It is a simple question of providing support to an exisiting/adverdised feature.
Cycling is much better than riding a car for a short drive, and yet your mechanic wont tell u to use a bicycle if ur car broke.

on with the program:

In the game dir, Vendor ID and Product ID are located in:
List of joysticks:
DefaultJoysticks.ini
PCKellerJoysticks.ini

Supposedly config (supposedly cause i don't think this is what the game uses)
DefaultEngine.ini
PCKellerEngine.ini

I believe MS is VendorID 1118 in the ubi INI files.

However, if you go to device manager --> properties of USB device--> details--> device instance ID then you see MS is 045E.
The joystick PID is 02A1 while the wireless reciever is 0719.
I don't know if this is due to a different coding system.

In the Device Manager, the XBOX 360 wireless appears as 2 items: XBOX 360 Peripherals --> Xbox 360 Wireless reciver
and under Human Intefrace Devices --> HID compliant game controller.
NOT under "sound, video and game controllers"
maybe it is related to the game's inability to detect it.

but that realy doesn't help me get this bloody controlr working http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/784.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gifsorry sorry
Its just that i spent almost $100 for this game and it's not working.
since unraping it and getting all exited about playing it I have spent most of my time on it trying to get it to do the things it says it will.
Is this site part of ubi soft?
do they no of this problem????
will there be a patch out soon to fix it ???

I tried this and it worked for me: open X:/Gamedir/\KellerGame\Config\PCKellerJoysticks.ini with any text editor, choose the first joystick (maybe anyone will do) from the list, modify the VendorID to 1118 and ProductID to 673 and save the ini file. now start the game and you can enable xbox 360 wireless controller in the menu.

ALSO i HAVE A PROBLEM WHEN EVER MY DESK TOP DOES SOMETHING WHILE IN GAME IT FREEZES OR BLUE SCREENS OF DEATH.

RECIEVING EMAIL NOTIFACATION FROM MSN
DOES ANYONE ELSE HAVE THESE PROBLEMS ??

Excellent find vincentchen . thank you.
To those confused about the vendorID/Product ID:
Each USB device properties in the device manager have a code in the "details" tab, under "device instance ID".
Something like this:
HID\VID_045E&PID_02A1&IG_00\8&1E2C074F&0&0000
VID_045E is MS. (1118)
PID_02A1 is the HID compliant game controller. (673)

If yours is different go to http://www.statman.info/conversions/hexadecimal.html
type in the Hexa value and click "To Decimal"
this is the number you should enter in the corresponding location in the ini file.

it won't always work. my wireless controller is not using the second analogue stick (mouse look), but trying is free.
just back up the file before u move to it.

krazycrab1977: the link u sent is relevant only to the wired controller.

kepiercyhttp://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_redface.gifpen \%GAME%Game\Config\DefaultJoysticks.ini the list is there.
you can try editing that file or copying the data from it.
just remember to back up.

GHOST00037
04-20-2008, 01:54 AM
cool it works for me, i only had to change it in the PcKellerEngine.ini at the bottom you find:

[WinDrv.WinJoystickMgr]
CurrentJoyProductID=0
CurrentJoyVendorID=0

replace 0 with the numbers and now i can select it.

now you have to change the bottom layout in the PCkellerJoysticks.ini to this:

[Joystick0]
ProductName=XBox Controller HID Minidriver, XID
VendorID=1118
ProductID=1817(change it to your number!)
Joy1=XboxTypeS_A
Joy2=XboxTypeS_B
Joy3=XboxTypeS_X
Joy4=XboxTypeS_Y
Joy5=XboxTypeS_LeftShoulder
Joy6=XboxTypeS_RightShoulder
Joy7=XboxTypeS_Back
Joy8=XboxTypeS_Start
Joy9=XboxTypeS_LeftThumbstick
Joy10=XboxTypeS_RightThumbstick
Axis_X=XboxTypeS_LeftX
Axis_Y=XboxTypeS_LeftY
Axis_Z=XboxTypeS_RightTrigger
Axis_Rotation_X=XboxTypeS_RightX
Axis_Rotation_Y=XboxTypeS_RightY
Axis_Rotation_Z=XboxTypeS_RightTrigger

DPadUp=XboxTypeS_DPad_Up
DPadDown=XboxTypeS_DPad_Down
DPadLeft=XboxTypeS_DPad_Left
DPadRight=XboxTypeS_DPad_Right

now the only problem seems that i don't know how to give a command to the right trigger(fire) as both the right trigger and left trigger(cover) are indicated as axis_z!?

aight, thanks Ghost000037 for the tip.
It made me understand that the game uses joystick 0 and then i noticed something that changed the situation into "Great Success":
Scroll down the list you and you will find:
UseXInput=true
Now... what stick screams xinput?
MS xbox 360 controller of course..
so this is how it looks in my file:
[Joystick0]
ProductName=XBox Controller HID Minidriver, XID
VendorID=1118
ProductID=673
UseXInput=true

and that's it. everything is working - including vibration which is a game event and the one thing s/w mappers can't do.
my gamepad is the wireless xbox 360.

Glad to be of service.
Actually you don't need the binding list after "useXInput".
Xinput overrides it.

To sum up my understanding of the current findings of this joint effort:

How can I use Xbox360 wireless controller in Vegas 2(PC)?
1. Hit "winkey" + "pause/break" on your keyboard to bring up "system properties"
2. select the "hardware" tab.
3. click "device manager"
4. Find your USB gamepad (under "Human interface devices" or "sound, video and game controllers"
5. double click it to go into properties to this device.
6. click the "details" tab.
7. note the sequance for VID and PID. e.g:
HID\VID_045E&PID_02A1&IG_00\8&1E2C074F&0&0000
VID == 045E
PID == 02A1
8. go to your favourite hexadecimal to decimal converter (like: http://www.statman.info/conversions/hexadecimal.html) and enter the hexa number of the VID and PID you just found and note the decimal value.
9. goto %gmaedir%\KellerGame\Config\ and select "PCKellerJoysticks.ini".
10. do a quick Ctrl C/ Ctrl V to create a back up (will be named: "Copy of PCKellerJoysticks.ini")
11. double click the file. at the top, under [Joystick0] change the value in Vendor ID to the decimal value you just found for VID and Product ID to the decimal value you just found for PID.
12. Now you can try 2 things:
a. delete everything right after the ProductID line till [joystick1]. instead add the line: UseXInput=true
b. go through the list and make sure that the gamepad binding correspond to the correct settings of your own gamepad axis and buttons.
13. close the file, select Yes when asked to save.
14. Run the game and a person named Robert is your parent's brother.
- If fail, delete "PCKellerJoysticks.ini" and rename "Copy of PCKellerJoysticks.ini" back. come here and report.

It worked perfectly with Vegas 2, thx.
Unfortunatelly this method doesn't fix R6 Vegas 1 for me http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/disagree.gif

UPDATE:
This method works with Vegas 1, but you must edit KellerJoysticks.ini, located in the GAMEDIR\KellerGame\Config\PC, not the PCKellerJoysticks.ini in the GAMEDIR\KellerGame\Config

Thanks a lot, guys =)

I have a problem I bought an xbox 360 corded controller for Windows, I set it up, I put in the downloads, the pc recognizes it, but when I go into game my controller will NOT work no matter what I do, I've uninstalled the game and re-installed it I have picked through everything I could think of to get this corded controller to work and no matter what it just will NOT work in the Rainbox Six Vegas game.

I have absolutely NO idea what to do to get this corded controller to work.

What is it I have to do to get this controller to work on this PC of mine?

Wow - how in the living daylights you guys are able to figure this stuff out is beyond me.

I came to this forum because I downloaded Rainbow Six Vegas 1 off Steam for $19.99

My wireless 360 controller worked so well in Bioshock PC that I was delighted when I saw the option to use the same controller in Rainbow Six Vegas PC - except that it didn't work.

So I come to this forum.

Lo and behold you cats have figured it all out. Thanks to everyone for solving this problem - wow, the game feels so much smoother when playing with the controller; I love being able to slip along very, very slowly, it gives me the sensation that I'm sneaking.

Special thanks to Tpyn for pointing out that the fix also works for the original Rainbow Six Vegas game (which is what I've got). How the heck he was able to figure out that you needed to edit a different file in a different directory than what the Rainbow Six Vegas 2 people were tampering with is beyond me.

Anyhow, thanks again everyone.

How the heck did we get by without the internet for so long?

Have you read this thread.

Try doing what people have said to do.

It took me about five minutes. Worked like a charm. The only thing that worried me was converting the hexidecimal (base 16) number to decimal (base 10). All you have to do however is google 'hexidecimal to base ten converter' and just enter the numbers.

If you get stuck then come back to this forum again.

I'm not kidding you - it's worth it. The 360 controller works great in this game. You even get authentic 360 icons onscreen, informing you which button to press. For example, you walk up to the door and a little green 360 A button appears. It's great.

skater262

read the previous posts and you'll find out how to manipulate some ini files which will help you get the controller working. Even then you'll see its not worth it.

Dunno bout you but I am Not a geek I Have absolutely no idea how to do this scripting stuff, the Only kind of scripting I have ever done was eight years ago on an Old game called Starsiege which was then C++ based game.

With this I havent a clue as to what I'm supposed to do, my controller is Not a wireless controller it is a wired controller.

So forgive me for not understanding what I'm supposed to do here, I'm not as young and quick on the programming points as some here.

My apologies.

That's no scripting http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif simple text file editing. besides.. i am as old as a tree...
Try following the same process i outlined earlier. it should work the same for the wired controller. the only difference should be the VID and PID numbers you get since it is a different controller.
in fact, i suspect the Vid (vendor ID) would stay the same since both are MS.
The rest should work the same.

All,

While the instructions to change the INI settings are clear, I can not save. I am using Vista. I get an error message, in NotePad that says "Cannot create the C:\Program Files\Ubisoft...\Config\PCKellerJoysticks.ini file" "Make sure that the path and file name are correct"

neilthecellist
05-26-2008, 12:12 PM
It's because you're using Vista off a non-OEM computer.

You need to set file permissions of PCKellerJoysticks.ini to allow all users to modify it. Non-OEM Vista separates users from administrators. It's a bug.

Example: My username on my Vista computer is "Neil the Cellist - Administrator" but I can't open certain files without actually forcing the individual file to have write permissions.

If you can't figure it out, then you shouldn't have bought a computer with Vista in the first place. Vista is NOT for noobs, contrary to the artsy-Mac-look design.

kepiercy

cougar, ignore neilthefairymusician. if you can't change the permissions copy the ini file to your desktop, make the changes and then move the file back to the original folder.

Will try this when I get home (having the same problem as cougar regarding saving the file) However, one solution I have found is to download xpadder from http://xpadder.com/ and then assign each pad/stick/button with the relevant letter from the keypad, which works fine, although I haven't figured out vibration.

Does anyone know what the actual PC xbox controller layout should be?

Any help would be much appreciated. I bought this game 2 weeks ago and it's still driving me nuts.

LOL A PLUG AND PLAY CONTROLER WILL NOT WORK UNLESS YOU HAVE THE WIRELESS ****LE FOR THE CONTROLLER found here http://www.xbox.com/en-US/hardware/x/xbox360wirelessgamingreceiver/

even tho the controller is plugged into the pc via the plug and play kit it still communicates wirelessly and with out the ****le your pc is deaf. and if you do have the wireless ****le unplug the cord on the plug and play controller and make sure you are getting the correct pid and vid . not the wireless ****le's piid/vid but the controller

Tried to use the 14 step formula,unable to save the changes. I know there are some people out there that have successfully installed the controler,but many more of us that have been unable to do so. So if one of you that has been successfull would take the time to type out a step by step guide for the rest of us(personaly I am using Vista Home Pro with sevice pack 1)so we can enjoy the experience to.

Hi guys, I've been messing around with this for the past hour or so, and yes the WIRELESS XBOX 360 CONTROLLER WITH THE WIRELESS ADAPTER WORKS. I'm using it in Vista x64 Ultimate. The problems I ran into were that the product/vendor IDs were wrong, and the PCkellyjoystick.ini file doesn't have the buttons mapped correctly. And i dunno if the game can deal with the triggers being a "Z" axis, since cover is in theory Left trigger and fire is in theory Right trigger. I'll keep fooling around, but for those looking around about the wireless 360 controller, know that it works.

User VincentChen 's solution worked for me..so here it is again:

-open C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas 2\KellerGame\Config\PCKellerJoysticks.ini

-with any text editor, choose the first joystick (maybe anyone will do) from the list, modify the VendorID to 1118 and ProductID to 673 and save the ini file.
-Now start the game and you can enable xbox 360 wireless controller in the menu.

Wow. Look how long ago all this excellent work was done. Excellent job vincentchen, GHOST00037 and especially Sierra13.

Sierra13,
Above I quoted your exact fix that worked excellently! I am using the WIRELESS 360 REMOTE w/ Transceiver- I even get the rumble feedback. I am playing RAINBOW VEGAS 1 (I don't like part 2)Everything works great.

I am playing on a Win 7 64bit laptop. I do not know didly squat about pc gaming. I am a console gamer. Due to me moving and all my stuff being packed. I now have to play Rainbow Vegas 1 on my laptop, which I purchased through steam.

Basically,
If I could follow the above instructions. Any body can. To get the directions from scratch go to page 4 of this forum and read your way from there.

Excellent job fellas, still works now in July/16/2010. Blows my mind. lol.

ps. I even called Ubisoft Tech Support, and they told me there was no way around my wireless xbox controller working. I would have to buy a wired controller- the guy told me. lmao. You guys just saved me a run to store and taught me something along the way. It took me a hour or so to get the directions right and understand them, but, it was well worth it. I feel fulfilled. Thanks again: vincentchen, GHOST00037, Sierra13

To save the INI properly for those that are running into a problem. Right Click on Notepad, Click Run as Administrator (WIN7) or Log-in to the PC as administrator or go to control panel and make sure the "user" your logged in with HAS admin rights. Make all your changes and save according to the steps provided by the previous poster.
