Hello again,
Are you getting the following Message, 'An Internet connection is required to play this game. Failed to connect to the Ubisoft master servers. Please verify that your Internet connection is functional and try again'. ? Which OS/Firewall are you using, and have you checked the HOSTS.txt file settings (C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts) ?
*Or are the Servers temporarily DOWN* ?

I am having the same problem. The game has run fine, with no errors, for the past week, since I bought it. But today, I get this error.
Is there a way to see if UBI's server is down or something? Seems odd it would connect and run without issue until today.

I get message about my wrong connection, not "servers down"
I use standard Windows firewall.
And I dont understand why i must use proxy.
My Hosts is ok, i checked it.
My OS is Windows 7 Ultimate

Hi all,
Same problem here.
The game has worked fine until Yesterday evening, and no modification have been done to my computer settings, so I really think the problem is on Ubisoft servers.
Best regards

I'm sorry if I'm dense here, but is there a place we can check to see server status and maybe an ETA of when they'll be back up?
Seems like a small thing to provide for your customers when you require a connection on a single-player game.

I have the same problem and my connection is totally OK. I can connect to online RPGs and all with no problem at all, so it's obviously a server down problem. It's really disappointing to have paid for a good game and have your fun totally ruined for a f***ing DRM system gone down... And everyone who downloaded it and didn't pay for it is playing and laughing at Ubi's face. My opinion? This DRM that makes connection to a server mandatory for offline-singleplay is nothing but a curse. If I knew this beforehand, I wouldn't have bought it. Anyway, there goes my first day off in weeks, I wishing to play for hours...
Damn you, Ubi's DRM. It's the last time I buy anything from these guys.

No servers here in the west either at 2300Z. Ubisoft...what a gong show DRM. First bit of fun was no manual and no code key in the box. That took over the weekend to get and now this..... I think maybe I will just wait for a good cracked download next time I want a ubisoft product. Yes I am ranting. The whole internet needed for single player thing has gone over like a lead balloon. Imbeciles!!!!!!!!!!!

A small reply by Ubisoft guys in almost 1 and a half hour from the first post, at least to say sorry and to tell us when we can expect to use the product we've paid for would be really appreciated.
Never heard about customer care?
Thanks in advance

It isn't a school boy attack. The complaints are fully justified. People set aside time for this stuff and the reasoning behind this disruption is not acceptable.
I agree with those saying not to buy Ubisoft games in future; I was a big supporter myself, until now.
It's just poor form for this to happen without an official announcement or ETA for the fix.

I just hope they know that the server is down,
By the number of complaints is seams that they might not.
Its not like its a big online game.

Same issue here as well. Just let them know how upset you are when Brotherhood is released by either not buying it or holding out until the price drops. Glad I did with AC2. AC2 is probably one of the best games I've ever played in 20 years of gaming, but the DRM totally ruins it...kinda like the situation we're all in tonight. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Still down, been waiting for 3 hours for the servers to come back online http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif Now I have to go to bed to get up for work http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif
Surely it would be better to keep the save games on my computer, rather than UBI servers?
As for the copy protection aspect - whatever new or old school way of doing it, you will only delay the crackers at best...

Sadly, this method doesn't delay the crackers at all... all it seems to do is drive honest customers to seek other options.
I guess I just don't understand why someone official cannot let their customers know what's going on or when to expect a fix. In the word-of-mouth advertisting age, it's suicide not to.

I was thinking the same thing about how the pirates are able to play, but the legit customers are not...

Great suggestion. I am an older player and don't feel the need to jabber with my buddies about the latest and greatest. I just want to enjoy a great game. I am not a big fan of pirating either so next title I guess I will just vote with my wallet. Either boycott Ubi altogether or if I can't resist, I can certainly wait until it is 9.99 on clearance at Wallyworld. Sure won't pay top dollar again. Why pay full price for a product from a company that always comes out of the gate limping and needing at least a couple patches and then leaves you hanging for hours when their required servers are down!?
Vote with your wallet people!!! The greedy moron's understand that!

Right on brother. Truly, AC2 is one of the best games I've ever played in decades of gaming, but with this kind of DRM, I will continue to just watch the price on Amazon, and I'll pay about a third of the retail value like I did with AC2. If they scrapped this garbage, I'd have pre-ordered AC2 & Brotherhood at full retail. $hit, I'd pay $80 per AC game if it was just DRM free.

Same problem here. I have had the game running, several nights this week I haven't been able to connect to the server.
I had been boycotting the game because of the DRM. I broke down and bought it. Big mistake.

This is a HORRIBLE system, REALLY horrible. You make people have to connect to a DRM server so that they can play their $50+ game and you do not have the common courtesy to make sure your DRM system works....WOW???? If my Data Center was down this much, I would be the one selling the $9.99 Bargain Game at Wallyworld.
Not sure WHY I AM EVEN posting, big game peeps like this ALREADY got their money so why do the care about us....after all I am the idiot that trusted them and paid for a great game and no way to play it
Yes, I experienced the same thing: tried to launch the game, got an "there is no internet connection, stupid" message, but I clearly have a connection.
This is the first time something has happened where I tried to launch AC2, but the servers were down. I've READ about the server problems frequently, but I've never experienced it myself.

It could be something outside of their control and I could accept that... but to leave everyone in the dark and not have the courage to make an announcement letting us know what's going on is unforgiveable.

Same Problem here with AC2.
Agreed, with most everyone.
Many many many games require internet connection. I like Bio Wares approach, you can play the game without internet connection, you just can't use some part of the game by having the DLC (that is part of the game) checked at start.
I don't mind having to have an internet connection, I've played WoW for years and am used to being connected to play. BUT I want to know if something is down, or make sure you have multiple auth servers so if one is down others kick in.

- bit of a p*ss take that the users report the servers back online, rather than anyone official http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif
