When I create a static mesh and import into unrealed and specify a new mesh package it will seem to save but when I close unrealed and open it later my map has an error trying to find the SM I added. Even though I imported it and placed it. Does anyone know why or have any suggestions on creating new static mesh packages?

you have to manually save the package (do it after all import... to make sure you don't loose anything...)

I did that and I can even open the package up after rebooting and see my SMs there just fine. The problem is when I bring them into the map, save and try and open the map later. It gives me that error saying the stairs have null references but I placed some textures on them. If someone could help id reall apreciate it.

Is the packaged saved with the same name as your map? That causes problems. You should save your texture package as mapname_T.utx and the static mesh package as mapname_TSM.usx
That fixed the problem for me.

Have you placed the texture package in your ravenshield/textures directory ?
I sometimes forget to paste it from C:/MyMaps to ravenshield/textures and i get that same error.
