Just bought CM 10th ed. Whenever I use any of the 3 animated chess sets, the pieces will not move (animate). The game seems to freeze and there is no way to move any of the pieces. Any ideas how to fix this?
My system is:
P4 2.4 (ASUS motherboard)
1 gig DDR 2100 memory
evga 6800 GT video card
Audigy soundcard
Windows XP with SP2
Thank you for your help.

Thanks for your help, but no luck. DirectX 9.0c already installed, as is latest drivers for video card (61.77). Is anyone else having this problem with a GeForce 6800 series card, and/or a SB Audigy card?

try downgrading your video card drivers, or use a (beta ?) upgrade if there are some problems, perhaps that helps...
can't tell if SP2 is the problem.. but SP2 is a pain in my ***
anyway, try contacting nvidia too, perhaps they already know about the problem

Exact same problem here, the animated chess set seems to be okay, but when I try to move it hangs. It does not freeze completely, however, pieces still have their idle animation (fairy chess set) but I must Ctrl-Alt-Supr to exit the game...
My system:
-WindowsXP SP1
-RADEON 9800 Pro 128Mb AGP8x(I have tried with catalysts 4.6, 4.7, the newest 4.8 and even with beta 4.9, same results)
-SB Audigy ZS Platinum (with the drivers bundled with the card and with the newest drivers from website)
-DirectX 9.0c
I tried disabling sound, in opengl rendering mode, changing the various video and audio ingame settings. What I want to point out is the fact that I have an ATI card, so it seems that the problem is not only with nvidia... or not VideoCard related at all.

I just wanted to let everyone know that I have contacted Ubisoft tech support and I am awaiting an answer. When I receive it I will post here.

I have a soundblaster live 1024 value ! This is not the problem...
I tried with and without d3d or Opengl, sound, etc... nothing works.
So we wait for the answer of Ubi tech support via slingshaft... and wish...

Received response from ubisoft support. They noticed (correctly) that my onboard soundcard was enabled in my BIOS and may have conflicted with my Audigy. So I disabled the onboard sound in my BIOS and tried again. No luck. Still no movement from 3d animated sets when attempting a move. Replied back to ubi support, and I will give update when I get a solution that works.

I try to install the new and latest patch 1.0.1 to verify it is correct the problem but it won't install; it don't recognize some version data like "anim8.dll"...
I don't know if both problem is link together ?!?
I'll try for the onboard soundcard...

Do you have anti-aliasing selected?
Worked fine with 2d/3d chess sets but froze after first move with animated sets. Turned it off with the 3d sets and mine is now ok

Unfortunately turning off anti-aliasing did not work. Updated my tech support question for ubisoft support and I am awaiting any more suggestions they can give me...

I have a nforce2 mobo and i'm using the onboard soundstorm apu. I don't believe its the sound causing the crash - i've tried turning off the sounds and went as far as to disable the onbaord all together.
Did not fix the problem.
PLEASE ADVISE.

Hello all,
With the help from mfjonny and LoneGunnerBR we managed to pinpoint the "freezing" problem.
It seems that the Logitech iTouch software you have installed for your keyboard (I presume all who had this problem are using some sort of Logitech wireless keyboard) is making CMX unable to correctly process animated moves.
This problem will be fixed in the upcoming 1.0.3 patch, but till then, if you want to see the 3d animated chess sets, you must uninstall the iTouch software.
Hope this helps,
Horia
