View Full Version : Bit disappointed (mp)

Played the mp demo for 2 days, was pretty fun but now boredom strikes back.
The gameplay seems a bit too simple, let me sum it up.

Merc: You lay mines and traps and then you start running around like an idiot....till you get a security error (or find a dumb spy who thinks he is mr. invisible), you check all spots, try to get a kill if theres still someone around and go back to powerwalking.

Spy: You run to the objective, take out the security which is always at the same place waiting for you and hope nobody is around to kill you.
After doing your job you run away like a chicken and go for the next one.
It is the same procedure every time.

Teamwork‚¬ī?
There is none most of the time, I am glad if my partner doesn't blow me up or runs straight into to next motion sensor.
When I see my teammate following me like a dog I know (terrible) death is close.
SC:PT teamwork is to know where your teammate is and to stay away as far as possible from him. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/35.gif
Actually I experience more teamwork in games like BFV/1942 than in SP:PT which got hyped as the uber-teamwork game.
The fact that most people don't use a headset doesn't help either.
Another annoying thing is that everybody wants to be a spy, but I guess we all saw that one coming.
Cannot continue, have to save earth from martian invasion!
Last words: Seems like a mix of Quake and Super Mario (that prolly doesn't make much sense).
End of message move along.

What you wrote doesn't make much sense. Of course you have to do the same thing at times, like disabling the lasers, but what is bad about that. I mean, if you don't like the type of game, this isn't anything for you. The singleplayer is about the same. You have to go through linear levels and try to hide from the bad guys. Multiplayer isn't linear, but you do have an objective like in any other game. If you want to have better teamwork, why don't you go play with a friend of yours... The game has been released like 3 days, so many people don't understand what they have to do. Just wait a month or 2 and you'll have the fun where you had been waiting for.

No teamwork? Plz, you must be crazy. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

There is a reason that hardly anybody can beat me and Colevant in MP...we are on a LAN, sitting right next to each other. Whether we are spy or merc (doesn't matter) we can win almost every time. Why? Our teamwork ownz.

I'm not even going to touch your other complaints, because you are just plain wrong. That or you cannot figure out how to play the game intelligently.

I get the problem on Live where my team-mate and I hardly communicate. No wonder we always lose.
It's just a case of finding the right person.

It is not about winning or losing, infact I am winning most of the time. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif
The problem (for me) is that once you *understand* the map and figured out the best way to handle things it turns into a repetitive brainless gameplay routine.

http://www.penny-arcade.com/images/2004/20040326l.jpg - found this :P

Anyway I think that to many people wants to be a spy... I usually play merc more than 5 times in a row so the other guys can have "fun". How about a new search game function, for example if you want to be a spy, it searches all games for one missing spy slot and joins it automatically? Same goes with mercs of course.. Just an idea

Nice idea! I would love to see that implemented in the server browser.

Any game can be called "repetitive." Let me try the most popular games right here:

CS: Run with a bunch of people, take cover, shoot at the enemy.

WC3: Mine resources, creep, rush, repeat.

BF1942: Find vehicle, charge into battle, lose vehicle, repeat.

See? Any game can be described as "repetitive." It's all about whether you like what you're repeating. For example, I'm not a CS fan because I don't like charging into a fight shooting. I'm a SCPT fan because I love playing hide and go seek x10.

Also, this cannot be stressed enough: If people don't know what they're doing, scpt SUCKS. If the spies just run for the objectives mindlessly without communicating and the mercs just "powerwalk" all over the place shooting at shadows, the game sucks.

If you have four people that know how to communicate and know how to play well, the game is, in my opinion, the best multiplayer experience ever.

P.S. One level, one set of equipment, and one set of options MAY get a little boring after two days of straight play. Buy the full version. There you go, 9x the content.

you know what is really fun http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif spy trap or spy bullet http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
at least only when other team is communicating trough mic
then its fun to listen to their conversation and te hear where they are going etc. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
although that won't happen much, opponents that communicate with mic http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

Hm, does spy trap (the trap mercs have) make you able to listen to the spy's voice chat?

supposedly yes, if they are in the vicinity of a trap when you use the hack button.

i think the original poster just didn't 'get' the game. there is amazing subtlety and depth in the different ways things can go down...if you just roam halls with merc you'll get dead, you gotta learn how to trap with mines and stuff.. likewise, spies are doing more bluffs and counter moves, double-attacks, all kinds of craziness.
