Hi.
I visiting my friend in London, he wants me to upgrade his memory from 256 to 1gb.
Its a Sony Vaio PC from Dixons
It the PC says Samsung DDR SDRAM PC2100 (133Mhz).
I presume its PC2100 but the lowest speed now seems to be 266Mhz..can I buy this or what should I do. Motherboard is Asus P4S533.
I want to get it in a couple of hours so if anybody can help soon I would appreciate it.
Cheers

according to the Asus website, there are two motherboards that look like the one you described.
P4S533-MX and P4S533-VM
According to the specs of the 1st one
"P4S533-MX has two DDR sockets and two SDR sockets that support up to 2GB non-ECC PC2700/PC2100/PC1600 or PC133/PC100 SDRAM DIMMs."
and the 2nd one,
"2 x DDR DIMM Sockets
Max. 2GB unbuffered PC2700 / PC2100 /PC1600 non-ECC DDR DRAM memory"
Have a look at the website before you decide but it looks to me that that MB can take up to 2700.
Sony probably just used 2100 because it's cheaper.
<edit> Of course, there are only two slots on that MB so in order to upgrade to 1GB, you're friend will have to dump the 256mb module and buy 2x512's

motherboard id is actually VX suffix, the diagnostic program says 3 Dimm slots.
I`m just about to rip open the case and have a look, I will go for PC2700 and make sure the shop will take it back if it doesnt work...thanks for the fast help, appreciated.
