Anyone ever played Goldeneye for Nintendo 64? Well if you shot someone in the head who had a helmet on you would hear a 'clunk' and you would see a big dent in his helmet.
I have no idea if no other games have this...just going by games i have played.
Im just wondering what has happened to this. I think it would be cool if you added hit decals to helmets, and sounds too. Sound good?
Just a thought.

The helmet is only rated to stop a 9mm FMJ.

9mm FMJ? In game a Russian 9mm will kill in one headshot anyway, plus, 9mm? why bother then. It's the AK 74's im worried about
Don't mess with a big monkey with a handgun...unless you have an M-16

I agree with Ihit2kll. Sure helmets can be pierced with a high calliber bullet but at least it would slow it down enough to only take an injury to the head. I agree with uncle also on the sound part. It would be awesome to hear when you hit someone in the head in a distant shot, or know when you get shot in the head by the ping. Maybe if you had a 9mm would dent it not make a hole and nothing happen. Dents would make it look better. But a countering point to that is that current helmets are made of kevlar and wouldnt make a ping. maybe something to the sort of a clunk.

Well, soldiers don't wear helmets to stop bullets to the head. Soldiers wear helmet for protection against shrapnel and other objects that could bump or injure the soldiers head. You would have to wear a safe on your head to get the kind of protection you would need to stop rifle bullets and still that wouldn't always be enough.

Well said Hull. The Russian 9mm is a more powerful round in the game. I think it's supposed to mimic the Russian 9x21 whereas the NATO round is 9x19. Also, European pistol ammo has traditionally been loaded "hotter" than American or NATO ammo.

It would be call to shoot a helmet off. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif
Now stop it I'm not being rude for once. When I used to play MOH I used to love sooting Tangos through the head & seeing the Helmet fly off. Ok it probably wouuld add nothing to the realism but it shure would put a smile on my face.
Takeing the point a bit further it would be cool if the helmet & bullet proof jacket etc. would add a little to your protection when near a nade/demo blast. Obviously if your too close then you'll snuff it anyway but a few meters away theres that area where it could make the difference. the same goes for if a bullet skims yur head.
& I Agree about a different sound it would be handy to know where you got shot without haveing to look at the squad command page.

lets get one thing straight, helmets DO NOT protect against DIRECT hits with bullets. Helmets are designed to protect against shrapnel, flying objects, and IN-DIRECT hits from bullets (glancing hits, grazing). For a helmet to protect against direct hits from modern ammunition, they would have to be several inches thick, and that would be very heavy and uncomfortable for the soldier.

A modern US military helmet can protect against bullets including rifle bullets. However, it is not garanteed to protect against them and it does a better job when deflecting them from an angle. I've seen photos of a British Marine (they have similar helmets) who got hit in the part of the helmet protecting his forehead (just an inch above the edge of the helmet) and all the marine only suffered being knock unconscious and a headache afterwards.
There are probably also cases where soldiers shot in the helmet weren't so lucky.
However, metallic dents, metallic sounds, and the like wouldn't be a realistic way to model the impact to a modern helmet, they aren't made out of metal anymore and it's not nearly as exciting to shoot something made out of kevlar fiber and resin.
