just having some fun thinking what would make this game absolutle legend if there was some type of monster in the water to eat you or knock you out of your boat and give you some slaps.
what would you most rate the most exciting?

"The Watcher of the Water" from Fellowship of the Ring. (the big squid looking thing that attacks Frodo when they try to enter the Mines of Moria).

Sharks with intelegence would be cool. They could sense when there's blood in the water or continuous thrashing about. There's definatly not enough going on in the water at present. This is a mutant farm we're talking about here and there could be some bad polution of chemicals 'mutating' the sea life there (anyone remember the original Resident Evil Sharks?). But the stuff you mention in your poll is just plain silly...except for the mines.

Thats a good idea about the sharks homing in on the scent of blood, I was watching a bleeding corpse floating around in the sea while i was in my boat, I waited to see if a big fish would turn up it didnt http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-sad.gif
I think the odd shark swimming around looking for a bite to eat and homing in on injuired or dead bodies would add some more spice!

Something in the water would truly spice up the feel of the game. Black Hawk Down has crocs and the feel of the water is different (better) than Far Cry. The idea that there is danger everwhere adds to the play. I always look for "safe spots" to take breaks in a game but safe spots are not really honest in an action game. Yes I take advantage of stupid IA to win but the dumber the game is the faster I uninstall it. The mermaids might be alright for some none violent action, who says the game has to be completely violent http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

as an owner of a saltwater reef tank (55 Gallons)
a few sharks and rays
some realistic fish and a few coral heads
rays would be near the shore in sandy areas and would be able to sting / harm you if you get to close and step on one, should be hard to see.
coral: in the real world most coral will sting you or cut you. coral's have sharp skeletons under them ... look at the tom hanks movie "Castaway" there is part where he steps thru some and gets a nasty cut.... thats what hhappens around a lagoon or reef when you are not carfull, also some mussle and oeyster types have sharp edges like that.
an odd drift or two of stinging jelly fish could also be good.
just the normal hazards when you enter the ocean.

i also have a salt water tank but mine is 56.5 gallons so that must mean that i got bigger fish in my life.
i think that jelly fish would be cool, also crocodiles, gators and pirahana's,and of course poo disguised like candy bars, and tool juice disguised as stinky lemonade.
they should have carl out of caddy shack lost on the beach doing cannonballs and shooting golf balls into the sea, you could also score some c4 gophers off him but it would mean hanging out and chatting nonsense for a while and maybe getting killed when the ai kicks in and the mercs start saying "who's that hanging with happy carl?" ITS HIM, flush that out.

speaking of carl from caddyshack doing cannonballs. during play i occasionally hear someone jumping/diving into water. haven't seen anyone do it yet. i've seen some folks treading water (lying in wait).

I'm from the old school of first person shooters. Far Cry is incredible. If they wanted to put Far Cry into the stratosphere, they should elaborate on the water elements of the game. They have the realism on land down incredible. Why not do the same for the water. I think back in the day, Duke Nu*** 3d had the "water gameplay" figured out. Hopefully, these guys have implemented some levels that use the water as intricate parts of the levels. Sharks that have attitude and can sense the blood is a great idea! Also, there need to be more underwater coral, etc. This is such a "over-the-top" game that is meant to be so realistic & it is going to revolutionize 1st person shooters that if the developers did not give the water similar kind of attention as they did to the island, it will be one of the only short-comings of the game. So far, the water is nice in the demo, but it looks like they only used the water as a after thought of the gameplay. I hope I'm wrong. I hope in the final release, there are areas on levels you have to swim underwater to gain access to. I hope there are hidden "easter eggs" only accessible by water. I hope there are some secrets that you can only get to by diving. An underwater cave would be awesome. Say you have a stockpile of weapons there. A place that would require almost all of your breath to get tohttp://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif Duke 3d really used the water and it worked great. Of course, there is no comparison between the 2 games, I'm just stating how the Duke guys got the water aspect of gameplay down. Maybe even a scuba tank here and there to use. Maybe when your in the inflattable raft, a spear gun to use under the water?? Can you see swimming up under the mercs. and spear gunning themhttp://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif My last thought. There is a lot of sand. Why don't you leave tracks when your running through it? That would be mucho realism and add effect to an almost perfect game. You also should hear the crunching sound of the sand. Last, blood tracks. If you run over a dead merc. that has bled out, why don't you leave bloody boot printshttp://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif) for a few steps. Hey Far Cry developers, I hope you read this. These few things would put your game into the stratosphere. It's already the revolutionary like DOOMII was in it's day. Oops, I'm giving away my age.

that reminds me, i found a stone arch to swim through at the bottom of lagoon, in front of docks where radio table is, and shark is hanging. though i died for some reason after i swam through it. more research into that is required. i love the water stuff and swim ability and fish 'schooling'. no sharks in water yet.
hey has anyone set water level to a negative number? great dune buggy playground i guess.

In the Boat demo, I shot the chain holding the shark and then I pushed him into the water. I probably messed with him for a good 30 minutes. it was a slow day.
