Well i have the same problem it tells me to insert the original GR cd-rom, i have 2 of them inserted on that i got with MSI video card and one that i have bought i a local computer game shop.
The game is installed with the game that i bought so i have that disk in the cd/dvd drive and the other disk in the cd-rw drive.
All i did to get this problem was to patch the game with the official patch 1.3 and 1.4 and added the silent warrior mod.
Thank you for helping me.

MSI FIX
PLZ_HELP_ME,
The MSI bundled version has a problem when trying to update with patches. I have a store bought version so have not dealt with this problem. If you used the bundled version to install the game that may be your problem.
The following resolution, by Ric_O_Chet may be of interest to you.

If you have the Ghost Recon that was bundled with an MSI Technologies Video Card, then what you should try is this:
1) Uninstall the game.
2) Go here http://test.support.ubi.com/MSI_GR_Fix.zip and download the fix.
3) Go here http://www.nvidia.com/view.asp?IO=winxp-2k_43.45 and download the latest nVidia Chipset Driver.
4) Uninstall your current video drivers.
5) Install the new nvidia drivers.
6) After reboot, install Ghost Recon.
7) Patch game to 1.3.
8) Patch game to 1.4.
9) Copy fix into game folder and overwrite.(if it does not ask you to overwrite, you are in the wrong directory)
10) See if the game runs.

I did just that and now Ghost Recon works on my system. For those who still are have trouble after trying this, see my previous post.
