I suppose it's a trivial question, but it has been nagging at me for days. What in the ever-lovin' blue-eyed world (with apologies to Walt Kelly) are all the logs and stones for? I can only speculate that there will be a use for them in your Relto in the future. The main reason why the question occured to is that I got tired of stumbling and stubbing my toes, and spent a couple hours one day booting every last log and stone physically off the island. I was happy to have a clean, easy walking Relto again. Very self-satisfied, I shut down and went to bed. The next time I went back to Relto every last log and stone was right back where it started! When I finally stopped laughing, the thought occured to me that they must have a future purpose since they won't allow themselves to be disposed of for good. Any speculation from others, or has the question even occured to anyone else?

If you don't want them, you can just "turn off" that page in your Relto book (this also applies to any other page, like rain).
If it wasn't so hard to kick them around, I'd rearrange them into interesting patterns... or try to dam my waterfall. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I have a feeling that they're in the game as a physics demo. They may be inconvenient, but I think it's pretty amazing how they roll according to their geometry.

You're right about amazing. There is one place down near the shore where, if you get one log just right, it's darn near impossible to move it more than a foot or two either way. It just rolls back! Oh well. Turning that page off seemed like kind of a cop-out. 'Sides, it was fun movin' them all around. But truly, is there no future use to which they may be put?

I agree with Sri as to the Rocks and Sticks being an example of the physics engine in URU. Even though they really don't serve a purpose, I am amazed at how lifelike they are and they really do add a sense or realism to the Relto. One word of caution for those that like to pitch them over the side. DON'T GO DOWN WITH THEM. If you do, they will be stuck down on the side for eternity and nothing you do can get them back, except reinstall. Which is what I did because I missed my little friends. I call the big one Rocky.

Unlike John, I have not named my rocks and sticks, but I did wedge one big rock into a hole on my dock in my relto, in anticipation of shutdown, just so it would not blow away in my absence! Wedged in tight there...I doubt if I could have gotten it out if I tried.
I'm thinking we may get a campfire relto page, and if you arrange the stones in a small circle, and put the logs in a kind of teepee shape in the center, and you break a branch off of one of the trees and strip it and then go get the marshmallows or weenies...which would of course mean that you would have to have the marshmallow yeesha page, or the weenie page...then you could invite some friends...*sigh*....*heavy sigh*....
And all the rest is silence...

I used the bigger logs to practice for Gira. They're not exactly the same weight and shape as what needs to be arranged in Gira, but you have to push on them at a similar angle to move them properly, and you can practice without the hassle of the water.
But mainly I just like the sounds they make when they roll...

I agree, Sri. There are also a few "kickable" items in the Cleft, near the imager, that I feel have the same purpose, ie, demonstrating that items can be moved by kicking them.
Aren't there also similar items in Gahreesen, near the lockers?

Yeah, but in Live, while waiting to get into the city, I had mine all nicely organized.
I reset my system for Prime, reloaded my last Prime sav & now they're all messy again ....
Guess that'll keep me busy till 1st XP ??
& Oh, yeah, my tree shrunk !!

I'm easily amused. I've been known to watch the rocks and logs just tumble and fall, going "Wow, they sure look REAL!"
And they really do.

Great idea, but how would we hold the stick with the marshmallow or weenie?
Ahhh! Imagination, the spice of life.

You are right. the only way to make this work is some sort of hands-free device that attaches to the KI and secures the marshmallow at the other end. Then its only a matter of /point ing to direct the mallow over the blazing fire...
Players must, of course, be careful not to turn around quickly, because someone might lose an eye, and we all know how quickly fun dissipates when THAT happens...of course the softness of the marshmallow should help prevent this...unless it happens to be on fire at the time, which would lead inexorably to other serious injury.
I am off to patent this device, and to write the users manual that should absolve me of any liability. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Good luck doing that with your feet. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif Not to mention trying to light a match with your toes. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif

I'll be fine, Thietris, thank you very much for your concern.
The avatar is sad, I agree. But consider that he lost all his companions so soon after discovering them. I'll let him mourn his loss until he's ready to let the light shine again.
It won't be long.

Since the end of live I've had a perm. fissure on my little island. I've been trying to use the logs to make some sort of bridge, but they just keep slipping off the edge and falling in.

Hogarth uses that fog enveloped ring as avatar pic here. Oh! you must be talking about his pix he took that are now archived.
The hug pix were too much for me. I lost it there.
