Hi, I'm new to the whole overclocking scene, but I'd really like to give it a try. I'm looking for some pointers on the best way(s) to tweak my system to get max performance. Specs as follows:

Gigabyte GA-8S661FM-X mobo
P4 2.4GHz 533FSB
512MB PC2700
GeForce FX 5200 PCI

My mobo (which is brand new) came with this software called "EasyTune" which is supposedly a Windows-based overclocking utility, but I'm kinda leery of trying that out.

I'd appreciate any feedback/help you can give. Post here or feel free to email me at CrewBoy2002@hotmail.com

Thanks!!!

I am overclocking in BIOS ( CPU/AGP/PCI)Except for graphics card i use RADlinker (Radeon)

Abit BH7
Pentium 2.4 Ghz=> 3.06 Ghz (533FSB)
1GB DDR 333
Radeon 9800 -overclocked to pro
WD60

If you want to overclock your system very good, you should be thinking about a nice cooling system. I personly use Gigabayte AERO cooler for
CPU and a ZALMAN cooler for my RAD.

Ok...thanks for the info. But what are the limitations as far as PCI/AGP bus is concerned? Isn't there a limit (33/66MHz) before they start messing things up?

Gigabyte GA-8S661FM-X
P4 2.4G 533FSB
512MB PC2700
80G & 60G WD HDD
GeForce FX 5200 PCI
SB Audigy 2 NX

I really don't know much about overclocking but this site might have some useful information for you.

Spike,

went to Gigabyte and found your mobo (I think)

didn't see fm-x but found the fxm. That what yours is?

I would try out EasyTune 4 for easy overclocking...

oh..why the PCI video card when you have an AGP slot?

Yea...that's my mobo--my mistake on the lettering, I've changed it. As far as the PCI gfx card, I just bought this mobo and the one I had before only had a PCI slot for expansion (it was a Mini-ITX board), but as soon as I get a little more cash, I'm gonna pick up an AGP card.

So...I used my BIOS to raise the system bus to 166MHz...left RAM spd @ 333, PCI & AGP buses stayed the same as well, and it got me up to 2.97GHz. It's been running perfectly stable, w/ temps no higher than 45-47C. Sounds good to me, but I dunno? Definitely gonna get some better cooling tho just to be safe...don't wanna burn this baby out before I can afford to replace her!!!
