Ok after serious testing with every possible setting I finally got my 9700 pro to run this game smoothly. There must be some bug with the lighting quality, If I set to low is how I fixed my fps, every other setting can be set to very high and works great. I personally never have any other problems I've seen posted with other older radeon's. Hopefully crytek knows of this and is fixing in next patch if so can we get a official response. I think we are feeling negected for whatever reason on this board. Ati owners please post your findings on this post so they will listen to us. Final thoughts, great f**king game thank you so much crytek we love you please love us.

I don't think it is a bug - DX9 lighting takes a real hit on performance, end of story. Us ATi owners seem to actually have the better of it, as current Radeons seem to cope with DX9 effects better than the GeForce FX series.

FC(and the betas) run smooth as hell on my ATI machines. Had no problems at all, I've been using catalyst version 3.9 -> 4.3. All worked perfect with one important setting, AA must be turned off. With AA turned on the game gets quite screwed up.

Why not? I run the game at 1024x768, with everything at Very High (water Ultra High), 2x (Low) AA and 8x (2) AF and I get 30-80 fps depending on the location. I can run the game at 1280x1024 with no AA and 4x (1) AF, but I prefer it my way round (I really notice jaggies, even at 1280x1024 and I think 4x AF looks crap - defeats the whole point of having Textures at Very High)

I hope they will optimise the game in a future patch, cause the way it is now is redicules.
First i have a P4 3.2 800 Fsb 1 Gb pc3200 and a Asus radion 9800XT Cat 4.3.
After some tweaking the game runs well on 1280x1024 with everything on high but shadows on medium. Frames around 60 to 70 so very good.
The fun starts with the auto config program, it selects everything very high, but when ingame i find this unplayable.
Why do they recommend this setting if its unplayable ingame ????
Why does this game in comparison to other games play so bad with frames around 35 to 40.
Mouse behavour seems way off and quite unresponsive with these frames. The mouse feels fine only with frames above 40 and that in find very strange!
It became better after the 1.1 patch but still nothing to write home about.
On my other pc same problem with the mouse, at my two friends pc's the same problem and they all have different mouses and graphicscards so it aint the system thats at fault here. I also seen it as a common problem on the forums so its a well known problem.
The main problem i find is that they haven't been consistent with regards to leveldesign and hardware requirements.
On the carrier level when you go outside frames drop from 60 to 20 outside on the deck. After i set shadows on medium frames where back to normal.
and there are numerous spots in the game when this happens. I dont want to play a game and have to change settings inbetween levels, this is just an major designflaw and lack of testing.
And yes Mister_Bump if i set display at 1024x786 the game runs ultra smooth, but with the same framedrops at the same points, but you dont notice this because it stays above 40 to 50 frames and the mouse stays normal. Its also unwatchable on my 22" monitor on this resolution.
The rest of the game is amazing, i really love it, good AI, massive levels with lots of freedom and different ways to do things.
And for all you people that will start flaming its my pc.
I tested this on a clean install of XP with different Catalist and mouse drivers so dont even go there!

Yea the lighting sure adds to performance loss. But dayum does it look sweet or what??? I mean the lighing is what really adds the topping to this cake IMO. Im sure you guys noticed when you turn on the flashlight with texture and Light set to Highest it runs slower, its the pixel shading that makes objects shine and reflective.

I can set everything to very high and still get good preformance ie. 50-70fps. but if i set AA even on low the game goes crazy, i've gotten it to work by setting lightins, and water, and textures to medium but then the game looks like crap. geuss i just have to live with the jaggies till they patch it.

Yes the game look wonderfull at very high and even the frames overall arent bad, just some framedrops at specific places that need to be sorted but it sure looks great.
Tell me does anybody of you have te feeling that the mouse get unresponsive or slower at 35 to 40 frames it driving me crazy and i see it on every pc with farcry on it around me.

It's really hard to tell the average fps because it's so different from level to level. I have never seen mine drop below 35, and I don't have any mouse problems at that point. So far everything has been very smooth with everything on maximum, except for AA and AF. I have those on low since it looks better. Turning AA up more makes it look blurry, and turning the AF makes it look unaturally sharp. The resolution I'm running is 1280x960.

I have tried the gamewith 512, 768, and 1024 megs. There is a huge difference between 512 and 768, and only a tiny difference between 768 and 1024.

Yes it freakin drives me crazy feels like mouse lag but isn't. I have the logitech mx510 but once I put the lighting to low that allowed me to turn on vsync (which dosen't work if set to application preference, have to have always on for this to work) but now it's freaking gravy now my fps don't drop below 50-60 but mostly at my refresh cap rate of 75. I just got home to work and have had this game over a week and I can't wait to play for the first real time w00t!!!!! Seems the 9800 pro guys don't have the fps drops like us 9700 pro's......I see nv40 in my future.....
