Love some of the pitched battles between the mercs and the trigens. Rebellion and Catacombs in particular stand out. Almost makes me feel sorry for the poor mercs when I see (and hear) them going up against those damn leaping monkeys. Sometimes I just sit back and watch from a safe distance and tell myself how lucky I am not to be in the middle of the carnage. Then, once it's over, I almost feel guilty about wading in and mopping up the survivors. Almost.

Yeah, same here....why waist my ammo when you can let 'em take each other out. Very cool! Ya gotta love this game! I keep playing missions over just to see the action, hehe!

Here are a couple of screens of a rather famous pitched battle in Control, down that alley way. Poor mercs, all of them were dead after the last screen shot in about 7 secs.

I wholeheartedly agree with you guys. Watching these pitched battles play out is one of the highlights of Single Player campaign. They always end differently, too, if you go back and replay the missions.
It always frustrates me, though, when I try to "help out" my brethren humans against superior trigen hordes, only to have them turn around and shoot at me while trigens are breathing down their backs.
You would think that they could forgive my little trespass for a bit while we band together to fight off trigens. It would have been a nice addition to the game if there was at least one scenario in which the mercenaries would work with Jack when facing overwhelming odds. But alas, maybe in an expansion pack...

One the level where you flood a main room in order to "float" up to an open vent in the ceiling, recall that you first enter that room via a 2nd level "lookover" room. When I came to the lookover room, there were 2-3 mercs fighting off some mutants. I just sat there behind them and watched the fight. Heard all the usual barks, then I decided to shoot at one of the mercs - he said "there he is, get him!", and a brief exchange of fire ensued between myself and 2 mercs. But as their attention went from the mutants to me, they started taking heavier fire from them, at which point they shifted their attention back to the mutants and left me alone...
Sure, not planned that way, it's just the coded AI acting itself out, but at least it's evidence that the attention span can be broken.

More wise words from the Buddha. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
However, i feel NO guilt when i go in to "mop up." I loathe the trigens AND the mercs, especially those mercs in blue with the shields in the Factory map! Arrrggghhh.....
