Not sure if this is the right forum - though it could be the future of Uru.
I was just brousing through my Uru manual (very bored... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif) when I came across this comment in the Neighbourhoods section of the Live chapter:

quote:
Each neighborhood includes a link to a Garden Age, a beautiful and interesting Age for relaxation and sometimes mysterious additional purposes.

Hmmm...interesting. The fact that this is mentioned in the Live section may mean it was a Live only option, but I'm suddenly very curious. Anybody know anything about this?

I never saw or heard of a Neighborhood Garden in Live ... but that IS what the manual says.

Yeah, before the Prime standalone was concieved, it was planned to have Eder Kemo as your private garden age. The exclusive link was going to be in the linking room.

Although I haven't found it, yet, I have seen references in one of the other forums, to Eder Tomahn (sp?). It is supposed to be a "resting place". I have just barely gotten started. I solved the spyroom puzzle and have thus far located Biven, Kirel, Takotah Alley, and the Ferry Terminal.

You'll find Eder Tomahn in the end.

I see, was about to ask what Eder Tomahn was, but I think I got the hint.
Actually, the thing that grabs me is the "mysterious additional purposes." Hmmm... (cue X-Files theme...) What purposes was there for this age? http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif

But if Kemo would've been a private Garden Age (and a very good choice, I might add), how would the fireflies fit into it?

The fireflies and most of the puzzle-ness of Uru offline was developed after the concept of the offline version was finalized... being in the beta, we got to see a lot of stuff get built in that simply didn't exist before that.
Eder Kemo used to be the only Age with a Journey Door, for example. The firefly puzzle didn't exist, and I would imagine Eder Gira was originally just going to be "yet another Garden Age", linked to a number of 'hoods (several 'hoods had links to Kemo when neighborhood instantiation was implemented, though I imagine that garden links, and later neighborhood designs, would have been selectable from options, had things lived long enough).
I'm rambling.

So there would've been more than one hood layout then? And each hood may of had their own garden? Wow, that would've been insanely cool. Please, do continue the rambling Alahmnat. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
I guess, however, that part of the document is just a left-over artifact of what could've been, that someone forgot to remove. Or perhaps they were planning on re-introducing a garden? We may never know...

It's possible that additional Neighborhood-public gardens were to be added at a later date. I'm speculating as I ramble, and the alternate 'hood layouts can be counted amongst the speculations. We only ever got to see Bevin during the beta test (and subsequently the thousands of Bevin clones that the test and later the Prologue spawned http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif), but given that the file names for Bevin are prefaced by "nb01" indicates that at some future time, a "nb02" would have been made available, just as Eder Kemo's files are actually prefaced by "gd01"... Eder Gira's files, probably in that it was pushed forward for Prime release, and perhaps in an effort to deliniate it clearly from Kemo, is prefaced by "gira".
However, the "left-over artifact" theory has a good deal of merrit as well... often documentation is written and then forgotten about as the development cycle trudges ever forward (heck, just look at the Homeworld2 manual http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif)

I noticed that remark in the manual about the Garden Age too and it was only when I saw the name of the files for Eder Kemo that I realised that was what was meant by it http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif Before that I spent ages wandering around the hood looking for a secret door to the garden http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif
It's a shame really because it would have been really nice for people to go and hang out in the quiet relaxing garden. Mind you, I think most groups used Kemo for that purpose anyway whilst in the Prologue http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif
It's sad to think of all the things that could have been if Live had been allowed to live - now we can only imagine what it would have been like http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

Eder Tomahn! Cool thats where Atrus and Gehn went to in BOA.
And of course where Eder Kemo, Eder Gira and Tomahna got their names.

They must have really changed the design major at the start of 2003!
Like, having to move Eder Kemo into the regular rotation and making it fit so tightly in the design (with Eder Gira as it does). Quite impressive.

Actually, you can see it has suffered due to the change-over, as Eder Kemo is very light on the puzzles. In fact, it has only two puzzles to speak of. (that I can remember anyways, and one of them isn't mandatory...) I guess you can see a similar problem with Ae'Gura and the XP though - as they were primarily designed for Live and then had to be redesigned for solo play.
I guess they did a great job under the circumstances, though.
